Embolization of brain arteriovenous malformations with squid co-polymer embolic material:Initial experience

Objective:To analyze the safety and effectiveness of the ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer(EVOH)liquid embolic agent Squid(Emboflu,Switzerland)for the treatment of brain arteriovenous *** and procedures:Between April 2015 and July 2017,46 embolization treatments for brain arteriovenous malformations(BAVM)were performed in 25 patients using two Squid formulations(18 and 12).Six female and 19 male patients with a mean age of 34 years(range,9–62 years)were included.A total of 46 procedures were *** BAVMs were classified as Spetzler-Martin gradeⅡin 4 procedures,Ⅲin 27 procedures,and 1V in 15 *** the 25 patients,15 presented with hemorrhage,5 with seizures,and 5 with headache and *** BAVMs were located in the temporal lobe in 5 patients,parietal lobe in 7 patients,frontal lobe in 3 patients,posterior fossa in 6 patients,basal ganglia in 3 patients,and parasagittal lobe in 1 ***:The obliteration rate of the BAVMs ranged from 10%to 100%,with a mean of 33%.Most patients underwent their first or second embolization *** patients(8%)developed intracranial bleeding post procedure,with one death(2%).One patient(2%)experienced a seizure during the procedure;however,no intracranial bleeding was *** patients(15%)experienced perforations during catheter *** case(2%)of fractured catheter was recorded,but no significant complications were *** average volume of copolymer injected was 0.6 ml per *** procedures used the Squid-12 formulation,29 procedures used the Squid-18 formulation,and 3 procedures used a combination of Squid-12 and-18 ***:Squid is a safe and effective embolic agent for treating BAVMs.

Dynamic Fuzzy Controlled RWA Algorithm for IP/GMPLS over WDM Networks

This paper proposes a dynamic RWA scheme using fuzzy logic control on IP/GMPLS over WDM networks to achieve the best quality of network transmission. The proposed algorithm dynamically allocates network resources and reserves partial bandwidth based on the current network status, which includes the request bandwidth, average utilization for each wavelength and its coefficient of variance （C.V.） of data traffic, to determine whether the connection can be set tip. Five fuzzy sets for request bandwidth, average rate and C.V. of data traffic are used to divide the variable space： very large （LP）, large （SP）, normal （ZE）, small （SN）, and very small （LN）. Setting the fuzzy limit is a key part in the proposed algorithm. The simulation of scenarios in this paper has two steps. In the first step, the adaptive fuzzy limits are evaluated based on average transmission cost pertaining to ten network statuses. The second step is to compare the proposed algorithm with periodic measurement of traffic （PMT） in ATM networks in six network situations to show that the proposed FC-RWA algorithm can provide better network transmission.

Are gap junction gene connexins 26,32 and 43 of prognostic values in hepatocellular carcinoma?A prospective study

AIM: To investigate the prognostic value of the expression of connexin (Cx) 26, 32 and 43 messenger RNA (mRNA) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tissues. METHODS: Using a reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), Cx 26, Cx 32 and Cx 43 mRNAs were determined in the liver tissues of 15 controls and in HCC tissues of 25 patients undergoing curative hepatic resection. The patients were followed up ***: Cx 26 and Cx 32 mRNAs were significantly lower in HCC tissues compared with controls (both Plity (P = 0.031,P= 0.031). Cx 43 mRNA was higher in HCC tissues compared with controls but did not correlate with postoperative recurrence or recurrence-related mortality. Other significant predictors of HCC recurrence included cellular dedifferentiation (P = 0.033), less encapsulation (P = 0.050), vascular permeation (P= 0.046), and daughter nodules (P= 0.046). Significant variables related to recurrence-related mortality consisted of cell dedifferentiation (P = 0.031), vascular permeation (P = 0.048), and daughter nodules (P = 0.048).The levels of Cx 26 and Cx 32 mRNAs correlated significantly with cell differentiation (P= 0.031). CONCLUSION: A low expression of Cx 26 and Cx 32 mRNAs in HCC tissues is predictive of postoperative recurrence of HCCs.

＜正＞ To characterize electromagnetic waves in complex media has been an important topic because of its useful applications and scientific significance of its physical mechanism. Dyadic Green’s functions, as a mathematical kernel or a dielectric medium response, relate directly the radiated dectromagnetic fields and the source distribution. In terms of the vector wave functions in cylindrical coordinates, dyadic Green’s functions in a unbounded and a planar, multilayered gltrodectric chiral media are formulated. After a gencral representation of the Green’s dyadics is obtained, the scattering coefficients of the Green’s dyadics are determined from the boundary conditions at each interface and are expressed in a greatly compact form of recurrence matrices. In the formulation of the Green’s dyadics and their scattering coefficients, three cases are considered, i. e. the current source is impressed in （1） the first, （2） the intermediate, and （3） the last regions, respectively. Although the dyadic Green’s functions for a unbounded gyroelectric chiral medium has been reported in the literature, the results are either incorrect or suspicious. As compared to the existing results, the current work basically contributes （1） a correct form of dyadic Green’s function for a unbounded gyroelectric chiral medium, （2） the general representation of the dyadic Green’s functions for a multi-layered gyroelectric chiral medium, and （3） a convincible and direct derivation of the irrotational Green’s dyadic.

Video Streaming on Content Delivery Network in Star-Ring Based EPON

VoD (video on demand) service is regard as one of the most important services in next decade. It requires high speed and huge bandwidth to guarantee the QoS (quality of service). EPON (Ethernet passive optical network) is regarded as one of the best solutions on access network, due to high speed and low cost. The star-ring EPON architecture is an evolution of EPON which provides better local transmission and fault tolerance capability. In addition, the CDN (content delivery network) mechanism, in which the video content is cached at a location closer to the user, is a widely used methodology to reduce the latency of VoD service. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a mechanism which combines the advantage of star-ring based EPON architecture and CDN mechanism to improve QoS. We design a new Sub-OLT (optical line terminal) which includes storage to store video files and serve at local. Thus, it can reduce the bandwidth between OLT and ONU (optical network unit). Simulation results have shown that our proposed mechanism can improve the system performance and QoS in terms of packet delay and jitter.
