Glanzmann’s thrombasthenia(GT)is an inherited autosomal recessive bleeding disorder,resulting from mutations in the ITGA2B and ITGB3 genes,that lead to a defect in the platelet membrane integrinαIIbβ3.[1]As integrinαIIbβ3 plays an important role in thrombus formation,the clinical manifestation of GT includes bleeding(mostly mucocutaneous)and purpura.For this reason,patients with GT are typically thought to be unlikely to suffer from thromboembolic incidents.Antithrombin is an anticoagulant that inhibits thrombin and is activated factor X and other serine proteases in the coagulation cascade.[2]Antithrombin deficiency is an autosomal dominant hereditary disease with an approximate prevalence of 1/500 in the overall population.[3]In contrast to the hemorrhagic tendency of GT,patients with antithrombin deficiency are at increased risk of thromboembolism,especially in the venous system.Herein,we describe a rare case of GT and antithrombin deficiency coexisting in a single patient.Rivaroxaban was used for the treatment of pulmonary embolism(PE)and deep vein thrombosis(DVT).

An eddy deep leaching technology was developed in this paper to address the challenge of treating heavy metal contaminants in industrial mining areas.The desorption effect of As,Cd,Sb and Pb was investigated utilizing chemical leaching and physical eddy techniques.It was found that the heavy metals concentration increased with decreasing particle size.The highest proportion of Cd in the form distribution of soil was in the bound to iron and manganese oxides,while the maximum proportion of As,Sb and Pb were in the residual.The optimal solid-liquid ratio of the hydrocyclone was 1:20,and the corresponding separation efficiency and flow rate were 84.7%and 1.76 m^(3)/hr,respectively.The grade efficiency of soil particle separation increases with particle size and exceeds 99%for particles above 1,000μm.Leaching experiments have revealed that oxalic acid(OA)and a combination of oxalic acid and EDTA(OAPE)were more efficient than citric acid(CA)and a combination of citric acid and EDTA(CAPE)for the desorption of heavy metals,respectively.The comparison of OAPE and eddy leaching found that the latter improved the desorption efficiency by 9.4%,7.5%,7.2%and 7.8%for As,Cd,Sb and Pb compared to the former,respectively.The results demonstrated that the eddy leaching technique could further enhance the desorption efficiency of heavy metals.It is expected to provide technical support for soil remediation with reduced usage of leaching agents.

Due to information asymmetry and strategic innovation,firms often encounter challenges related to insufficient driving forces and low-quality innovation outcomes.Analysts always act as information intermediaries who help foster the advancement of corporate innovation activities and the conversion of innovation output.This study examines the impact of analyst coverage and forecasting bias on corporate innovation,employing data from China A-shared listed firms spanning the period 2007 to 2019.We measure corporate innovation from two perspectives:Input and output.Specifically,we use the ratio of research and development(R&D)expenditure to sales as a proxy for the innovation input and the number of patent citations excluding self-citations to measure innovation output.We find that analyst coverage promotes corporate innovation,which is consistent with the“bright”side of analyst coverage.However,the positive effect of analyst coverage hinges on effectively transmitting and disclosing accurate information to investors in the capital market.Based on this,analysts'forecasting bias includes forecasting dispersion and optimism bias.We find evidence that an increase in analysts'forecast dispersion leads to a decrease in corporate innovation quality.Moreover,this paper presents a novel approach by employing the regression discontinuity method to examine the effect of analyst optimistic bias on firm innovation.The empirical findings reveal that overly optimistic forecasts by analysts exacerbate innovation quality.These analyses enrich the research on analyst coverage and corporate innovation,providing an empirical basis for improving the capital market with the help of analysts.

Sepsis is a common systemic disease characterized by various physiological and pathological disorders.It can result from infection by various pathogens,such as bacteria,viruses,and fungi.The rate of culture-negative sepsis is almost 42%,indicating that most patients may have nonbacterial infections.With the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019,viral sepsis has attracted growing attention because many critically ill patients develop sepsis.Viral sepsis can be caused by viral infections and combined with,or secondary to,bacterial infections.Understanding the common types of viral sepsis and the main characteristics of its pathogenesis will be helpful for effective diagnosis and treatment,thereby reducing mortality.Early identification of the causative agent of viral sepsis can help reduce the overuse of broad-spectrum antibiotics.In this article,we reviewed the common viruses of sepsis,their potential pathophysiology,targets of diagnosis,and remedies for viral sepsis.

Manipulated precipitation regulated carbon and phosphorus limitations of microbial metabolisms in a temperate grassland on the Loess Plateau,China

Manipulated precipitation patterns can profoundly influence the metabolism of soil microorganisms.However,the responses of soil organic carbon(SOC)and nutrient turnover to microbial metabolic limitation under changing precipitation conditions remain unclear in semi-arid ecosystems.This study measured the potential activities of enzymes associated with carbon(C:β-1,4-glucosidase(BG)andβ-D-cellobiosidase(CBH)),nitrogen(N:β-1,4-N-acetylglucosaminidase(NAG)and L-leucine aminopeptidase(LAP))and phosphorus(P:alkaline phosphatase(AP))acquisition,to quantify soil microbial metabolic limitations using enzymatic stoichiometry,and then identify the implications for soil microbial metabolic limitations and carbon use efficiency(CUE)under decreased precipitation by 50%(DP)and increased precipitation by 50%(IP)in a temperate grassland.The results showed that soil C and P were the major elements limiting soil microbial metabolism in temperate grasslands.There was a strong positive dependence between microbial C and P limitations under manipulated precipitation.Microbial metabolism limitation was promoted by DP treatment but reversed by IP treatment.Moreover,CUE was inhibited by DP treatment but promoted by IP treatment.Soil microbial metabolism limitation was mainly regulated by soil moisture and soil C,N,and P stoichiometry,followed by available nutrients(i.e.,NO^(-)_(3),NH^(+)_(4),and dissolved organic C)and microbial biomass(i.e.,MBC and MBN).Overall,these findings highlight the potential role of changing precipitation in regulating ecosystem C turnover by limiting microbial metabolism and CUE in temperate grassland ecosystems.

Identified as the pathogenic genes of Alzheimer's disease(AD),APP,PSEN1,and PSEN2 mainly lead to early-onset AD,whose course is more aggressive,and atypical symptoms are more common than sporadic AD.Here,a novel missense mutation,APP E674Q(also named“Shanghai APP”),was detected in a Chinese index patient with typical late-onset AD(LOAD)who developed memory decline in his mid-70s.The results from neuroimaging were consistent with AD,where widespread amyloidβdeposition was demonstrated in 18 F-florbetapir Positron Emission Tomography(PET).APP E674Q is close to theβ-secretase cleavage site and the well-studied Swedish APP mutation(KM670/671NL),which was predicted to be pathogenic in silico.Molecular dynamics simulation indicated that the E674Q mutation resulted in a rearrangement of the interaction mode between APP and BACE1 and that the E674Q mutation was more prone to cleavage by BACE1.The in vitro results suggested that the E674Q mutation was pathogenic by facilitating the BACE1-mediated processing of APP and the production of Aβ.Furthermore,we applied an adeno-associated virus(AAV)-mediated transfer of the human E674Q mutant APP gene to the hippocampi of two-month-old C57Bl/6 J mice.AAV-E674Q-injected mice exhibited impaired learning behavior and increased pathological burden in the brain,implying that the E674Q mutation had a pathogenicity that bore a comparison with the classical Swedish mutation.Collectively,we report a strong amyloidogenic effect of the E674Q substitution in AD.To our knowledge,E674Q is the only pathogenic mutation within the amyloid processing sequence causing LOAD.

Comparisons of Two Ensemble Mean Methods in Measuring the Average Error Growth and the Predictability

In this paper, taking the Lorenz system as an example, we compare the influences of the arithmetic mean and the geometric mean on measuring the global and local average error growth. The results show that the geometric mean error （GME） has a smoother growth than the arithmetic mean error （AME） for the global average error growth, and the GME is directly related to the maximal Lyapunov exponent, but the AME is not, as already noted by Krishnamurthy in 1993. Besides these, the GME is shown to be more appropriate than the AME in measuring the mean error growth in terms of the probability distribution of errors. The physical meanings of the saturation levels of the AME and the GME are also shown to be different. However, there is no obvious difference between the local average error growth with the arithmetic mean and the geometric mean, indicating that the choices of the AME or the GME have no influence on the measure of local average predictability.

Many types of buildings have been widely constructed in the vicinity of subway lines in China.Normal life and business activities are hampered by excessive subway-induced vibrations.This study aims to determine the influence of structure characteristics on structure-borne vibrations,generally based on experimental results.Vibration measurements were performed in four typical sites in Wuxi,China,involving over-track buildings,along-track buildings,frame structure buildings and a masonry building.Special structure designs like structure transfer floor were also included.Then,the captured data was analyzed in the time domain and the frequency domain.Furthermore,the influence of building location,structure type and structure layout was investigated.Finally,vibrations were evaluated with ISO and Chinese criteria and structure optimization for vibration attenuation was proposed.It is found that over-track buildings are more severely affected than along-track buildings.Higher frequency contents(20‒60 Hz)in over-track buildings and lower frequency contents(0‒10 Hz)in along-track buildings should be seriously considered in vibration control.Weaker structure member joints and lower material strength would be beneficial to over-track buildings while the inverse situation would be beneficial to along-track buildings.The application of structure transfer floor‒generally stiffer structure members and structure discontinuity‒is also beneficial.

Studies have suggested that one volcanic eruption can influence seasonal to inter-annual climate variations.This study indicates that the Pinatubo eruption in 1991 may have actually induced the stratospheric decadal cooling recorded in the early 1990s.Using the NCEP/NCAR reanalysis and TOMS/SBUV satellite data,a decadal abrupt cooling of stratospheric tropical air temperature was found to have occurred in the early 1990s during a long-term descending trend.We generated the spatio-temporal structures of the decadal abrupt changes(DACs) for the stratosphere,and explored the relationship between the Pinatubo volcano eruption in 1991 and stratospheric DACs in the early 1990s.Our results suggest that the eruption of Pinatubo prompted a decadal decrease of ozone by the activation of nitrate and sulfate volcanic aerosols on ClO free radicals.The stratospheric heat absorbed by ozone decreased over a decadal time scale.As a result,decadal abrupt cooling of stratospheric tropical air temperatures occurred in the early 1990s,and may be attributed to the Pinatubo eruption.The results therefore indicate that one strong volcanic eruption can induce stratospheric decadal climate variation.
