The Songhua River,one of the seven major rivers in china,locates in northeast china with 1897 km *** study aims to investigate the concentrations,distribution,source apportionment and ecological risk assessment of heavy metals including copper(Cu),zinc(Zn),cadmium(Cd),lead(Pb),nickel(Ni)and chromium(Cr)in main stream and tributaries of the Songhua River in Jilin Province,northeast *** sediment samples(0–15 cm)were collected from 39 sampling sites in the Songhua River in July *** of Cu,Zn,Cd,Pb,Ni and Cr were *** mean concentrations of heavy metals were(24.0±9.2)mg/kg,(59.3±18.0)mg/kg,(4.0±2.1)mg/kg,(39.0±27.9)mg/kg,(18.5±8.6)mg/kg and(56.1±17.6)mg/kg for Cu,Zn,Cd,Pb,Cr and Ni,*** average contents of Cu,Cd,Pb,Cr and Ni were higher than their background *** concentrations of heavy metals were found in the lower reaches with industrial enterprises and cities along the Songhua ***,Pb and Ni might come from industrial sewage and mineral processing,while Cu and Cd were derived from electroplating wastewater and agricultural non-point source *** originated from lithogenic *** concentrations of Cu,Zn and Cr were below the effect range low(ERL)at all sites,while Cd,Pb and Ni concentrations were detected ranging from ERL to the effect range median(ERM)at more than 15%of *** of Ni exceeded ERM in more than 50%of *** mean toxic units of heavy metals in the Songhua River decreased following the order:Cd(6.7)>Pb(2.2)>Ni(1.6)>Cu(0.7)>Cr(0.5)=Zn(0.5).Potential ecological risk index was found to be higher in middle and lower reaches of the Songhua River,where Cd could impose an extremely high ecological risk.

The transportation of the proton,the smallest ion in nature,is rudimentary in chemical and biological reactions[1,2],such as photosynthesis[3],enzyme catalysis[4],and Brensted acid/base reactions[5],and currently even imperative in some devices,namely proton exchange membrane fuel cells(PEMFCs)[6,7].The processes of these elementary reactions,like proton transfer,appear to be astonishingly analogous.

Element and mineral characterization of dust emission from the saline land at Songnen Plain, northeastern china

Recent observations of Asian dust storms show an eastern expansion of the source area to degraded lands, where dust emissions have been little studied. The dust concentrations over the saline land of the western Songnen Plain （SSL）, northeastern china, are circumstantially higher than those from the northwestern Chinese deserts. These concentrations are sensitive to the surface soil conditions and wind velocity on the ground. The dust samples collected during dust storm events on the SSL contain abundant Na, Mg, A1, K, Ca, Fe and Ti, as well as toxic elements such as Cu, V, Zn and Ba. Individual particle analysis reveals that fine saline particles （〈 10 μm in diameter） on the saline land, consisting largely of carbonate, halite and sulfate together with lithogenic minerals such as SiO2 and aluminosilicate, are eventually uplifted during the interval from spring to autuum. The predominantly fine saline particles uplifted from the SSL are likely transported eastward by the winter monsoon circulation and westerlies. Recent degradation of saline lands in northeastern china would not only increase the frequency of dust storm events in the downwind area, but also might change the chemical composition of the Asian dust emissions.

Synthesis Optimization of SSZ-13 Zeolite Membranes by Dual Templates for N_(2)/NO_(2) Separation

High-silica SSZ-13 zeolite membranes are promising in industrial separations of light gases and continuous membranes are highly demanded for better separation performances. Herein, pure-phase, continuous and thin SSZ-13 zeolite membranes were synthesized using dual templates of N,N,N-trimethtyl-1-adamantammonium hydroxide(TMAdaOH) and tetraethylammonium hydroxide(TEAOH). Systematical investigations of TMAdaOH/TEAOH ratios and their concentrations show that TMAdaOH acts as the main structure-directing agent in the formation of the SSZ-13 zeolite. TMAdaOH cooperatively plays with TEAOH in promoting the SSZ-13 crystal intergrowth to form a continuous polycrystalline membrane. Additionally, appropriate introduction of TEAOH is able to adjust the membrane thickness to the crystal-comparable size of ca. 2.0 μm. The SSZ-13 membranes are further applied for N2/NO2separation, which is firstly reported on zeolite membranes. The gas permeation results show that the SSZ-13 membrane synthesized by the dual-template approach exhibits selective separation of N2 over NO2 with N2/NO2 separation factor of 7.6 and N2 permeance of 1.66×10-8 mol·m-2·s-1·Pa-1.

Rainstorms are one of the extreme rainfall events that cause serious disasters,such as urban flooding and mountain *** studies have used rain gauge observations to analyze rainstorm events,but relevant information is usually missing in gauge-sparse ***-derived precipitation datasets serve as excellent supplements or substitutes for the gauge *** developing a grid-based rainstorm-identification tool,we used the Tropical Rainfall Measurement Mission(TRMM)Multi-satellite Precipitation Analysis(TMPA)time series product to reveal the spatial and temporal variabilities of rainstorms over china during 1998–*** patterns of both increasing and decreasing rainstorm occurrences were detected,with no spatially uniform trend being observed across the whole *** was an increase in the area being affected by rainstorms during the 20-year period,with rainstorm centers shifting along the southwest–northeast *** occurrence was found to be correlated with local total *** comparing rainstorm occurrence with climate variables such as the El Ni?o-Southern Oscillation and Pacific Decadal Oscillation,we also found that climate change was likely to be the primary reason for rainstorm occurrence in *** study complements previous studies that used gauge observations by providing a better understanding of the spatiotemporal dynamics of china’s rainstorms.

The degradation of metoprolol(MTP)by the UV/sulfite with oxygen as an advanced reduction process(ARP)and that without oxygen as an advanced oxidation process(AOP)was comparatively studied *** degradation of MTP by both processes followed the first-order rate law with comparable reaction rate constants of 1.50×10^(-3)sec^(−1)and 1.20×10^(-3)sec^(−1),*** experiments demonstrated that both e^(−)_(aq)and H·played a crucial role in MTP degradation by the UV/sulfite as an ARP,while SO_(4)^(·−)was the dominant oxidant in the UV/sulfite *** degradation kinetics of MTP by the UV/sulfite as an ARP and AOP shared a similar pH dependence with a minimum rate obtained around pH *** results could be well explained by the pH impacts on the MTP speciation and sulfite *** six transformation products(TPs)were identified from MTP degradation by the UV/sulfite ARP,and two additional ones were detected in the UV/sulfite *** benzene ring and ether groups of MTP were proposed as the major reactive sites for both processes based on molecular orbital calculations by density functional theory(DFT).The similar degradation products of MTP by the UV/sulfite process as an ARP and AOP indicated that e^(−)_(aq)/H·and SO_(4)^(·−)might share similar reaction mechanisms,primarily including hydroxylation,dealkylation,and H *** toxicity of MTP solution treated by the UV/sulfite AOP was calculated to be higher than that in the ARP by the Ecological Struc-ture Activity Relationships(ECOSAR)software,due to the accumulation of TPs with higher toxicity.

Vegetation Phenology in Permafrost Regions of northeastern china Based on MODIS and Solar-induced Chlorophyll Fluorescence

Vegetation phenology is an indicator of vegetation response to natural environmental changes and is of great significance for the study of global climate change and its impact on terrestrial *** normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI)and enhanced vegetation index(EVI),extracted from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectrometer(MODIS),are widely used to monitor phenology by calculating land surface ***,the applicability of the vegetation index based on‘greenness'to monitor photosynthetic activity is hindered by poor observation conditions(e.g.,ground shadows,snow,and clouds).Recently,satellite measurements of solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence(SIF)from OCO-2 sensors have shown great potential for studying vegetation ***,we tested the feasibility of SIF in extracting phenological metrics in permafrost regions of the northeastern china,exploring the characteristics of SIF in the study of vegetation phenology and the differences between NDVI and *** results show that NDVI has obvious SOS advance and EOS lag,and EVI is closer to *** growing season length based on SIF is often the shortest,while it can represent the true phenology of vegetation because it is closely related to *** is more sensitive than the traditional remote sensing indices in monitoring seasonal changes in vegetation phenology and can compensate for the shortcomings of traditional vegetation *** also used the time series data of MODIS NDVI and EVI to extract phenological metrics in different permafrost *** results show that the length of growing season of vegetation in predominantly continuous permafrost(zone I)is longer than in permafrost with isolated taliks(zone II).Our results have certain significance for understanding the response of ecosystems in cold regions to global climate change.
