Solid Desiccant Dehumidification Techniques Inspired from Natural Electroosmosis Phenomena

Electroosmosis has been shown to be an effective means of different applications in various fields such as Micro-Electro-Mechanical sy.tems （MEMS） and biomimetics applications. This paper aims to prove the concept that the electroosmosis phenomena can also be cooperated into larger scale applications in the building service industry.like dehumidification or damping proof. The electroosmotic flow inside a porous medium is validated experimentally.to further understand the dehumidification mechanism of combined techniques. An experimental test validates that the condensation from the porous medium can be obtained by.electroosmotic force generated by.external electric field, especially.for specific desiccant powders like zeolite and diatomaceous earth. With a range of volts from 5 V to 20 V apply.ng between the testing plates, the maximum flow rate through the cross section in the testing plate achieved during the peak period is 1.35 laL＇min 1. These promising phenomena can act as an alternative way.for energy.choice in dehumidification industrial field. Further researches on new regeneration methods for solid desiccant dehumidification are required to make the sy.tem simple, energy.saving and suitable for small air conditioning units.

Carbon nanotube (CNT) is one of the most extensively.investigated nanomaterials. Patterning soft matter such as liquid cry.tals and poly.ers on CNTs could potentially.enable various applications for CNTs. We have demonstrated that controlled poly.er cry.tallization using CNTs as the 1D nucleation sites can lead to periodically.functionalized CNTs. Here we show that selected cry.talline block copoly.ers can be periodically.decorated along CNTs. This facile technique opens a gateway.to periodic patterning on 1-D nanomaterials.

High resolution electron microscopy.studies of rure earth-rich phase particles in a melt-quenched Ti-5Al-4Sn-2Zr-1MO-0.25Si-1Nd alloy.indicate that the α-Ti matrix cry.tallizes prior to the rare earth-rich phase particles. According to a new nucleation model, the heteropeneous nucleation of the rare earth-rich phase particles at the matrix interface is easier than the homogeneous nucleation off the interface matrix, which is consistent with the results of the HREM obseroations.

The present investigation of the crack problem in piezoelectric materials is performed based on the non-local theory. After some manipulations, the impermeable crack, the permeable crack （the crack gap is full of NaCI solution）, and the semi-permeable crack （the crack gap is full of air or silicon oil） are reduced to a uniform formulation by.assuming the normal electric displacement on the crack surfaces to be an unknown variable. Thus, a triple integral equation with the unknown normal electric displacement is established. By.using the Newton iterative method and solving the triple integral equation, it is found that the normal electric displacement on the crack surfaces is no longer a constant as determined by.previous studies, rather, it depends upon the remote combined electromechanical loadings. Numerical results of the stresses and electric displacement fields show that there are no singularities at the crack tips so that the stresses remain finite. It is of great significance that the concrete electric boundary.condition on the crack surfaces exerts significant influence on the near-tip fields and in this way.play. an important role in evaluating the crack stability.in the non-local piezoelectric materials. More specifically. the impermeable crack model alway. overestimates the finite stresses at the crack tips, whereas the permeable crack model alway. underestimates them.

Porous Al2O3 host/NiO nanocomposites have been prepared by.py.oly.is of Ni2(OH)2CO3 inthe nanostructured Al2O3 hosts. Diffuse reflection spectra in the wavelength range of 200 to800 nm were measured. Results show that (1) in each spectrum exist several absorption bandsof nano-NiO. With increasing the py.oly.is temperature from 550 to 1000℃, the numbers ofabsorption bands of NiO increase from 2 to 6 (P1-P6), (2) comparing with optical absorptionbands of single cry.tal NiO, for porous nanocomposites the P1, P2 and P4 present 'blue shift'and the P3, P5 and P6 exhibit 'red shift'; (3) when the py.oly.is temperature, Tp, is 550℃, theabsorption bands become so weak that only.two bands (P1 and P6) can be observed and inversely.hen Tp=1000℃ all six absorption bands of NiO are strong, (4) for porous Al2O3/NiOnanocomposites prepared by.py.oly.is at 1000℃ the PF+ caused by.the F+ centers in theAl2O3 host moves towards the short wavelength at first with increasing the doping amount ofNiO from 5 to 50 wt pct and then shifts to the long wavelength with further increasing NiO. Inthis paper, the above phenomena and mechanism of the absorption bands of NiO are discussedin detail.

Objective: To determine the causes of choledochal di-latation in patients with obstructive ***: One hundred and sixty.four patients withobstructive jaundice were investigated by.endoscopicretrograde cholangiopancreatography.ERCP), and pa-tients with choledochal dilatation (group Ⅰ, n=110)were compared with those without choledochal dilata-tion(group Ⅱ, n=54).Results: The causes of common bile duct dilatationwere choledocholith, juxtapapillary.duodenal divertic-ula and congenital dilatation of the common bile *** distal common bile duct and its surroundings wereabnormal in 104(94.55%) of the 110 patients and in 13(24.08%) of the 54 patients (Py.duodenal diverticulum accounted for 24.55% ingroup Ⅰ, and only.in 9.26% in group Ⅱ (Py.tectomy.patients were 13.64% in groupⅠ, and only.5.56% in group Ⅱ.Conclusions: The abnormalities of the distal commonbile duct and its surroundings can usually.be detectedas underly.ng causes of common bile duct *** is necessary.before cholecy.tectomy. since it isconsidered the "gold standard" for the diagnosis ofdistal common bile duct abnormalities.

Fingering phenomena are common occurrence in the natural world. It generally.takes place when a less viscous fluid displacesa more viscous fluid ty.ically.in porous media. Nowaday., such phenomena have extensively.been studied due to itsimportance in many.industrial fields. In this paper, the effects of surface wettability.on finger pattern are studied and simulatednumerically.by.the Lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). The displacement efficiency.is investigated by.using two parameters,namely. the breakthrough time and the areal sweep efficiency. The simulation has demonstrated that surface wettability.willinfluence the finger pattern no matter the gravity.is considered or not, but in the presence of gravity. the finger pattern is muchmore complicated and irregular due to the coexistence and competition of capillary.force, viscous force and gravity.
