Atomistic study on the microscopic mechanism of grain boundary embrittlement induced by small dense helium bubbles in iron

The helium bubbles induced by 14 MeV neutron irradiation can cause intergranular fractures in reduced activation ferritic martensitic steel,which is a candidate structural material for fusion *** order to elucidate the susceptibility of different grain boundaries(GBs)to helium-induced embrittlement,the tensile fracture processes of 10 types of GBs with and without helium bubbles in body-centered cubic(bcc)iron at the relevant service temperature of 600 K were investigated via molecular dynamics *** results indicate that in the absence of helium bubbles,the GBs studied here can be classified into two distinct categories:brittle GBs and ductile *** atomic scale analysis shows that the plastic deformation of ductile GB at high temperatures originates from complex plastic deformation mechanisms,including the Bain/Burgers path phase transition and deformation twinning,in which the Bain path phase transition is the most dominant plastic deformation ***,the presence of helium bubbles severely inhibits the plastic deformation channels of the GBs,resulting in a significant decrease in elongation at *** bubble-decorated GBs,the ultimate tensile strength increases with the increase in the misorientation ***,the coherent twin boundary∑3{112}was found to maintain relatively high fracture strength and maximum failure strain under the influence of helium bubbles.

Micro-nanoarchitectonic of aluminum-hydrogel propellant with static stability and dynamic rheology

The aluminum-water system is a promising propellant due to high energy and low signal characteristics,and the gel form is easier to store and *** this work,hydrogels of water and aluminum particles were prepared using the low-molecular-weight gellant *** various physical properties of gel systems,including the water loss rate,phase transition temperature,and centrifugal stability at different gellant and aluminum contents,were *** properties were assessed through shear thinning tests,thixotropy tests,strain sweep analysis,and frequency sweep *** microstructure of the gel was obtained through scanning electron microscopy *** results show that the aluminum-hydrogel network structure is composed of micron-scale aluminum and agarose nanosheets,and the unique micro-nanostructure endows the gel with excellent mechanical strength and thermal stability,which improve with increasing gellant and aluminum ***,the gel with 2% agarose and 20% aluminum had the best performance;the storage modulus reached 90647 Pa,which was within the linear viscoelastic region,and the maximum withstand pressure was 111.2 kPa,which was 118.8% greater than that of the pure ***,the gel demonstrates remarkable shear thinning behavior and can undergo gel-sol transformation upon shearing or heating to exceeding 114℃.

In this article,the experimental and finite element analysis is utilized to investigate the quasi-static compression features of sandwich constructions built with tapered tubes.3D printing technology was utilized to create the hollow centers of the tapering tubes,with and without *** results demonstrate that the energy absorption(EA)and specific energy absorption(SEA)of the single corrugated tapered tube sandwich are 51.6% and 19.8% higher,respectively,than those of the conical tube ***,the results demonstrate that energy absorbers can benefit from corrugation in order to increase their ***,the tapered corrugated tubes'resistance to oblique impacts was *** to a straight tube,the tapered tube is more resistant to oblique loads and has a lower initial peak crushing force(PcF),according to numerical *** conducting a parametric study,it was discovered that the energy absorption performance of the sandwich construction is significantly affected by the amplitude,number of corrugations,and wall *** and SEA of DTS with corrugation number of 8 increased by 17.4%and 29.6%,respectively,while PcF decreased by 9.2% compared to DTS with corrugation number of 10.

Multi-area Frequency-constrained Unit commitment for Power Systems with High Penetration of Renewable Energy Sources and Induction Machine Load

The increasing penetration of renewable energy sources(RESs)brings great challenges to the frequency security of power *** traditional frequency-constrained unit commitment(FcUc)analyzes frequency by simplifying the average system frequency and ignoring numerous induction machines(IMs)in load,which may underestimate the risk and increase the operational *** this paper,we consider a multiarea frequency response(MAFR)model to capture the frequency dynamics in the unit scheduling problem,in which regional frequency security and the inertia of IM load are modeled with high-dimension differential algebraic equations.A multi-area FcUc(MFcUc)is formulated as mixed-integer nonlinear programming(MINLP)on the basis of the MAFR ***,we develop a multi-direction decomposition algorithm to solve the MFcUc *** original MINLP is decomposed into a master problem and *** subproblems check the nonlinear frequency dynamics and generate linear optimization cuts for the master problem to improve the frequency security in its optimal *** studies on the modified IEEE 39-bus system and IEEE 118-bus system show a great reduction in operational ***,simulation results verify the ability of the proposed MAFR model to reflect regional frequency security and the available inertia of IMs in unit scheduling.

Fuel Economy Opportunities for Internal combustionEngines by Means of Oil-cooling

comparative experiments of oil and water-cooling were performed on a 4-cylinder automotive gasoline engine and a single-cylinder direct injection Diesel engine. Measurements were made to investigate the variation of fuel consumption, combustor wall temperature and engine emissions (Hc, cO, NOx and smoke) with two cooling media at steady-state conditions. Significant improvement of fuel economy was found mainly at partial load conditions with oil-cooling in comparison with the baseline waer-cooling both for the two engines. The experimental results also showed general trend of reduction in engine emissions using oil as the coolant. Measurements of wall temperature demonstrated that oil-cooling resulted in considerable increase of the combustor wall temperature and reduce of warmup period in starting process. For automotive gasoline engine, road tests indicated the same trend of fUel economy improvement with oil-cooling. The performance of the automotive oil-cooled engine was fUrther improved by internal cooling with water or methanol injection.

With the increasing popularity of wearable electronic devices,there is an urgent demand to develop electronic textiles(e-textiles)for device ***,the difficulty in reconciliation between conductivity and manufacturing costs hinders their large-scale practical ***,we reported a facile and economic method for preparing conductive ***,nonconductive polypropylene(PP)was wrapped by reduced graphene oxide(rGO),followed by the electrodeposition of Ni nanoparticles(NPs).Notably,modulating the sheet size of graphene oxide(GO)resulted in controllable deposition of Ni NPs with adjustable size,allowing for controlled manipulations over the structures,morphologies,and conductivity of the obtained e-textiles,which influenced their performance in electrochemical glucose detection *** optimal material,denoted as Ni/rGO+(0.2)/PP,exhibited an impressive conductivity of 7.94×10^(4)S·m^(−1).With regard to the excellent conductivity of the as-prepared e-textiles and the high electrocatalytic activity of Ni for glucose oxidation,the asprepared e-textiles were subjected to glucose *** was worth emphasizing that the Ni/rGO_(0.2)/PP-based electrode demonstrated promising performance for nonenzymatic/label-free glucose detection,with a detection limit of 0.36μM and a linear response range of 0.5μM to 1 *** study paves the way for further development and application prospects of conductive etextiles.

More tree growth reduction due to consecutive drought and its legacy effect for a semiarid larch plantation in Northwest china

Extreme climate has increasingly led to negative impacts on forest ecosystems globally,especially in semiarid areas where forest ecosystems are more ***,it is poorly understood how tree growth is affected by different drought *** 2006–2009,the larch plantations in the semiarid areas of Northwest china were negatively affected by four consecutive dry years,which was a very rare phenomenon that may occur frequently under future climate *** this study,we analyzed the effect of these consecutive dry years on tree growth based on the data of the tree rings in the dominant layer of the forest canopy on a larch *** found that the tree-ring width index(RWI)in dry years was lower than that in normal years,and it experienced a rapidly decreasing trend from 2006 to 2009(slope=-0.139 year^(-1),r=-0.94)due to water supply deficits in those dry *** induced legacy effects of tree growth reduction,and consecutive dry years corresponded with greater growth reductions and legacy *** reductions and legacy effects were significantly stronger in the third and fourth consecutive dry years than that of single dry year(pch might have been due to the cumulative stress caused by consecutive dry *** results showed that larch trees experienced greater tree growth reduction due to consecutive dry years and their legacy effect,and the trees had lower recovery rates after consecutive dry *** results highlight that consecutive dry years pose a new threat to plantations under climate warming,and thus,the effect of climate extremes on tree growth should be considered in growth models in semiarid areas.
