The formation of a heterogeneous oxidized layer,also called scale,on metallic surfaces is widely recognized as a rapid manufacturing event for metals and their *** or total removal of the scale represents a mandatory integrated step for the industrial fabrication processes of medical *** biodegradable metals,acid pickling has already been reported as a preliminary surface preparation given further processes,such as ***,biodegradable medical prototypes presented discrepancies concerning acid pickling studies based on samples with less complex geometry(e.g.,non-uniform scale removal and rougher surface).Indeed,this translational knowledge lacks a detailed investigation on this process,deep characterization of treated surfaces properties,as well as a comprehensive discussion of the involved *** this study,the effects of different acidic media(HCl,HNO_(3),H_(3)PO_(4),CH_(3)COOH,H_(2)SO_(4) and HF),maintained at different temperatures(21 and 60℃)for various exposition time(15-240 s),on the chemical composition and surface properties of a Fe-13Mn-1.2C biodegradable alloy were *** in mass loss,morphology and wettability evidenced the combined effect of temperature and time for all *** in HCl and HF solutions favor mass loss(0.03-0.1 g/cm^(2))and effectively remove the initial scale.

The carbide precipitation was analyzed during aging of 2.25Cr–1Mo steel at 550℃.The as-received steel was aged in two different manners:the first treatment was an isothermal aging at 550℃ for time up to 1000 h,and the second one was carried out by a cyclical aging,which consisted of aging at 550℃ for 1 h,water quenching at room temperature and then newly heating at 550℃.This procedure was repeated up to 300 *** M_(23)C_(6) and M6C carbide precipitation took place intragranularly and intergranularly for both aging *** carbide coarsening was detected to occur with the increasing aging ***,the growth kinetics of precipitation occurred more rapidly in the case of cyclical *** specimen hardness decreased with the aging time in both cases;however,it occurred in shorter aging time for the cyclical *** testing indicated the increase in ductility with the aging time,and the cyclically aged specimens showed larger ductility than the isothermally aged specimens.

The larval stages of the cestode parasites belonging to the genus Echinococcus grow within internal organs of humans and a range of animal *** resulting diseases,collectively termed echinococcoses,include major neglected tropical diseases of humans and *** larvae are outwardly protected by the laminated layer(LL),an acellular structure that is unique to this *** LL is based on a fibrillar meshwork made up of mucins,which are decorated by galactose-rich *** addition,in the species cluster termed *** sensu lato,the LL features nano-deposits of the calcium salt of myo-inositol hexakisphosphate(Insp_(6)).The main purpose of our article is to update the immunobiology of the *** recent advances in this area are(i)the demonstration of LL“debris”at the infection site and draining lymph nodes,(ii)the characterization of the decoy activity of calcium Inp6 with respect to complement,(iii)the evidence that the LL mucin carbohydrates interact specifically with a lectin receptor expressed in Kupffer cells(Clec4F),and(iv)the characterization of what appear to be receptor-independent effects of LL particles on dendritic cells and *** information is missing on the immunology of this intriguing structure:we discuss gaps in knowledge and propose possible avenues for research.

Neurodegenerative diseases are a heterogeneous group of maladies, characterized by progressive loss of neurons. These diseases involve an intricate pattern of cross-talk between different types of cells to maintain specific signaling pathways. A component of such intercellular cross-talk is the exchange of various types of extracellular vesicles (EVs). Exosomes are a subset of EVs, which are increasingly being known for the role they play in the pathogenesis and progression of neurodegenerative diseases, e.g., synucleinopathies and tauopathies. The ability of the central nervous system exosomes to cross the blood-brain barrier into blood has generated enthusiasm in their study as potential biomarkers. However, the lack of standardized, efficient, and ultra-sensitive methods for the isolation and detection of brain-derived exosomes has hampered the development of effective biomarkers. Exosomes mirror heterogeneous biological changes that occur during the progression of these incurable illnesses, potentially offering a more comprehensive outlook of neurodegenerative disease diagnosis, progression and treatment. In this review, we aim to discuss the challenges and opportunities of peripheral biofluid-based brain-exosomes in the diagnosis and biomarker discovery of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. In the later part, we discuss the traditional and emerging methods used for the isolation of exosomes and compare their advantages and disadvantages in clinical settings.

Background Hedera helix L. is an invasive weed species introduced in several regions of the world, so it is relevant to study its effects on the plant community and the changes occurring after its eradication. We established invaded(with/without removal of H. helix) and non-invaded(with/without removal of the understory) plots to compare some community attributes in an oak forest in Mexico City and monitored them every 2 months for 1 year, taking soil samples to compare some edaphic variables between the plots. If invasive species negatively affect natural regeneration, seedlings of native species would be less abundant in plots invaded by H. helix than in the non-invaded ones. As invasive species modify the soil microbiota through exudates and often allelochemicals, soil chemical variables would differ between invaded and non-invaded *** The abundance of native species was lower in the invaded plots, but the richness and diversity of species were not statistically different. The composition of the two invaded plots was similar to each other and more alike to that of the non-invaded plots. The species composition of the invaded plots was associated with soil potassium and phosphorus concentrations, whereas that of the non-invaded plots was more associated with soil nitrogen *** Following the removal of H. helix, several native species were registered, leading to a similar species composition as in the non-invaded plots, suggesting that some vegetation recovery can be expected following H. helix removal in 1 year.

Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) is one of the agricultural crops with the greatest potentialfor vegetable oil production in Brazil. However, a disease of unknown etiology popularlyknown as Fatal Yellowin (FY) has caused damage to Brazilian farmers particularly in theeastern region of the Amazon. So, the objective of this study was to evaluate the spatialdependence of FY on three oil palm genotypes, grown for many years in an organic produc-tion system in the Amazon region. The study area had 4104 ha, divided into 139 plots. Ineach plot, the monthly incidence of disease was monitored forming a database. The num-ber of diseased plants per year, number of accumulated diseased plants, number of dis-eased plants per hectare, growth rate of diseased plants and incidence of accumulateddisease were evaluated. The results indicated spatial distribution of the variables adjustedto the gaussian, spherical and exponential models, with predominance of the first *** increases the purpose that FY is caused by biotic factors. The highest range achievedin the study was 2929 m indicating the susceptibility of the tested genotypes. Some plotsclose to the river had the highest incidence of the disease on the study, probably associatedwith higher soil moisture.

This manuscript is reviewing the presence of substances of safety concern that may be generated in different types of meat *** substances include N-nitrosamines that can be generated under certain conditions when using nitrite as preservative,the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons generated as a consequence of particular smoking processes,heterocyclic aromatic amines generated under particular cooking conditions,compounds released from the oxidation of lipids and proteins,Maillard reaction products like acrylamide and carboxymethyl lysine,and amines that can be generated and accumulated in fermented *** hazardous compounds,their mechanisms of generation,risks for health and ways of preventing its presence in meat products are briefly described in this review.
