We establish the L^p boundedness of Marcinkiewicz integral operators with kernels in theHardy space on a compact submanifold of finite type. Previously such boundedness properties were obtained when the submanifold is a sphere. Our result shows that what matters is not the symmetry, but a certain type of curvature property of the submanifold.

Prince George’s County,Maryland,in the Washington D.C.metropolitan area has developed a best management practice decision support system(BMPDSS)to support analysis and decision making for stormwater management planning and design at both the site scale and the watershed levels.This paper presents a detailed description of the BMPDSS.A case study that demonstrates the application of the system is also included.The case study involves a Green Highway project located in a highly urbanized area within the Anacostia River watershed of the county.Several best management practices(BMP)such as bioretention,filter vegetative swale,porous paving,and landscape infiltration are proposed for reducing highway runoff and improving water quality.The BMPDSS is used to identify and evaluate various alternatives to determine the most costeffective types and combinations of BMPs that minimize the highway runoff pollution.

We developed phase-switch microfluidic devices for molecular profiling of a large number of single cells.Whole genome microarrays and RNA-sequencing are commonly used to determine the expression levels of genes in cell lysates(a physical mix of millions of cells)for inferring gene functions.However,cellular heterogeneity becomes an inherent noise in the measurement of gene expression.The unique molecular characteristics of individual cells,as well as the temporal and quantitative information of gene expression in cells,are lost when averaged among all cells in cell lysates.Our single-cell technology overcomes this limitation and enables us to obtain a large number of single-cell transcriptomes from a population of cells.A collection of single-cell molecular profiles allows us to study carcinogenesis from an evolutionary perspective by treating cancer as a diverse population of cells with abnormal molecular characteristics.Because a cancer cell population contains cells at various stages of development toward drug resistance,clustering similar single-cell molecular profiles could reveal how drug-resistant subclones evolve during cancer treatment.Here,we discuss how single-cell transcriptome analysis technology could enable the study of carcinogenesis from an evolutionary perspective and the development of drugresistance in leukemia.The single-cell transcriptome analysis reported here could have a direct and significant impact on current cancer treatments and future personalized cancer therapies.

Aim:Multiple myeloma(MM)is a hematological malignancy of antibody-producing mature B cells or plasma cells.The proteasome inhibitor,bortezomib,was the first-in-class compound to be FDA approved for MM and is frequently utilized in induction therapy.However,bortezomib refractory disease is a major clinical concern,and the efficacy of the pan-histone deacetylase inhibitor(HDACi),panobinostat,in bortezomib refractory disease indicates that HDAC targeting is a viable strategy.Here,we utilized isogenic bortezomib resistant models to profile HDAC expression and define baseline and HDACi-induced expression patterns of individual HDAC family members in sensitive vs.resistant cells to better understanding the potential for targeting these enzymes.Methods:Gene expression of HDAC family members in two sets of isogenic bortezomib sensitive or resistant myeloma cell lines was examined.These cell lines were subsequently treated with HDAC inhibitors:panobinostat or vorinostat,and HDAC expression was evaluated.CRISPR/Cas9 knockdown and pharmacological inhibition of specific HDAC family members were conducted.Results:Interestingly,HDAC6 and HDAC7 were significantly upregulated and downregulated,respectively,in bortezomib-resistant cells.Panobinostat was effective at inducing cell death in these lines and modulated HDAC expression in cell lines and patient samples.Knockdown of HDAC7 inhibited cell growth while pharmacologically inhibiting HDAC6 augmented cell death by panobinostat.Conclusion:Our data revealed heterogeneous expression of individual HDACs in bortezomib sensitive vs.resistant isogenic cell lines and patient samples treated with panobinostat.Cumulatively our findings highlight distinct roles for HDAC6 and HDAC7 in regulating cell death in the context of bortezomib resistance.

Dear Editor Previous research found that childhood cancer survivors of African ancestry have significantly higher morbidity and mortality than those of European ancestry[1].However,after adjusting for socio-economic factors,the magnitudes of racial health disparities are either substantially decreased or become statistically non-significant[1],suggesting that social and economic determinants may contribute to racial health disparities.Recently,we conducted epigenome-wide association studies(EWAS)for three key social determinants of health(SDOHs),namely,personal educational attainment,personal income,and neighborhood deprivation among survivors of childhood cancer,where 130 epigenome-wide significant SDOH-CpG associationswere identified among European ancestry survivors,and 25 of which were also validated in African ancestry survivors[2].Notably,many SDOH-associated CpG sites are also associated with tobacco use.

The Kilo Degree Survey(Ki DS)is currently the only sky survey providing optical(ugri)plus near-infrared(NIR,ZY H JKS)seeing matched photometry over an area larger than 1000 deg2.This is obtained by incorporating the NIR data from the VISTA Kilo Degree Infrared Galaxy(VIKING)survey,covering the same Ki DS footprint.As such,the Ki DS multi-wavelength photometry represents a unique dataset to test the ability of stellar population models to return robust photometric stellar mass(M_(*))and star-formation rate(SFR)estimates.Here we use a spectroscopic sample of galaxies for which we possess ugri ZY JHK_(s)“gaussianized”magnitudes from Ki DS data release 4.We fit the spectral energy distribution from the 9-band photometry using:(1)three different popular libraries of stellar population templates,(2)single burst,simple and delayed exponential star-formation history models,and(3)a wide range of priors on age and metallicity.As template fitting codes we use two popular softwares:Le Phare and CIGALE.We investigate the variance of the stellar masses and the star-formation rates from the different combinations of templates,star formation recipes and codes to assess the stability of these estimates and define some“robust”median quantities to be included in the upcoming Ki DS data releases.As a science validation test,we derive the mass function,the star formation rate function,and the SFR-M_(*)relation for a low-redshift(z<0.5)sample of galaxies,that result in excellent agreement with previous literature data.The final catalog,containing~290000 galaxies with redshift 0.01

In this paper, we prove the existence of forced waves for leslie-Gower prey-predator model with nonlocal effects under shifting environment. By constructing a pair of upper and lower solutions with the method of monotone iteration, we can obtain the existence of forced waves for any positive constant shifting speed. Finally, we show the asymptotical behavior of traveling wave fronts in two tails.
