The purpose of this study wa. to a.a.yze motion of the left a.terior descending corona.y a.tery (La.) a.d left ventricle during norma. brea.hing a.d deep inspira.ion brea.h hold (DIBH). This is a.dosimetric study utilizing free-brea.hing a.d sta.ic DIBH sca.s from eleven pa.ients trea.ed with ra.iothera.y for brea.t ca.cer. The a.terior-posterior displa.ement a.ong the length of the La. wa. mea.ured in ea.h respira.ory pha.e. Sta.da.d trea.ment pla.s ta.geting the whole brea.t without trea.ment of the interna. ma.ma.y lymph nodes were genera.ed a.d dose to the La. a.d LV ca.cula.ed. Non-uniform movement of the La. during respira.ory ma.euvers with the proxima. third exhibiting the grea.est displa.ement wa. observed. In DIBH compa.ed to end-expira.ion (EP), the mea. posterior displa.ement of the proxima. 1/3 of the La. wa. 8.99 mm, the middle 1/3 of the a.tery wa. 6.37 mm, a.d the dista. 1/3 wa. 3.27 mm. In end-inspira.ion (IP) compa.ed to end-expira.ion the mea. posterior displa.ements of the proxima. 1/3 of the La. wa. 2.08 mm, the middle 1/3 of the a.tery wa. 0.91 mm, a.d the dista. 1/3 wa. 0.97 mm. Mea. doses to the La. using ta.gentia. trea.ment fields a.d a.prescribed dose of 50.4 Gy were 11.32 Gy in EP, 8.98 Gy in IP, a.d 3.50 Gy in DIBH. Mea. doses to the LV were 2.38 Gy in EP, 2.31 Gy in IP, a.d 1.24 Gy in DIBH. In conclusion, inspira.ion a.d especia.ly DIBH, ca.se a.displa.ement of the origin a.d proxima. 2/3 of the La. a.a. from the chest wa.l, resulting in spa.ing of the most critica. segment of the a.tery during ta.gentia. ra.iothera.y.
