Anxiety-Behavior Modulated by Ventral Medial Prefrontal Cortex of Rats Submitted to the Vogel Conflict Test Involves a Local NMDA Receptor and Nitric Oxide

It was demonstrated in the Vogel conflict test (VCT) that the ventral portion of medial prefrontal cortex (vMPFC) of rats is involved with anxiety behavior. Moreover, the vMPFC local glutamatergic and nitrergic system interaction is involved in modulation of fear conditioning, a model of anxiety. To better understand the role of the MPFC-glutamatergic and nitrergic system on the VTC behavior response, male Wistar rats (250 g) were water deprived for 48 h before the VCT. After 24 h of water deprivation, they were subjected to an initial 3-min non-punished (pre-test) drinking session. Twenty-four hours later bilateral microinjections of NMDA-antagonist LY235959 (4 nmol/200 nL), the specific nNOS inhibitor N-Propyl-L-arginine (N-Propyl –0.08 nmol/200 nL), the NO scavenger Carboxi-PTIO (C-PTIO, 2 nmol/200 nL) or 200nL of vehicle were applied in the vMPFC. After 10 min, the animals were submitted to 3-min punished-licking session. LY235959 increased the number of punished licks. Similar to LY235959, both N-Propyl and C-PTIO also increased the number of punished licks. No changes were observed when LY235959, N-Propyl and C-PTIO were micro- injected into vMPFC surrounding structures such as the cingulate cortex area 1, the corpus callosum and the tenia tecta. In control experiments these drugs did not change neither the number of unpunished licks nor had any effect in the tail-flick test. The results show that NO signaling in the vMPFC can modulate anxiety-behavior in the VCT by control punished behavior. Moreover, this NO modulation could be associated with local glutamatergic activation through NMDA receptors.

Cerebral hemorrhages are fairly common in full-term neonates with no history of traumatic birth, mostly limited, and with benign evolution. We report a case of a full-term neonate from vaginal birth with caput succedaneum in the right parietal area. The neonate underwent cranial ultrasonography and color Doppler which showed extra-axial blood effusion. Color Doppler showed vessels crossing the collection area, which allowed the diagnosis of subarachnoid hematoma.

AIM: To analyze through meta-analyses the benefits of two types of stents in the inoperable malignant biliary ***: A systematic review of randomized clinical trials(RCT) was conducted, with the last update on March 2015, using EMBASE, CINAHL(EBSCO), MEDLINE, LILACS/CENTRAL(BVS), SCOPUS, CAPES(Brazil), and gray literature. Information of the selected studies was extracted in sight of six outcomes: primarily regarding dysfunction, complication and reintervention rates; and secondarily costs, survival, and patency time. The data about characteristics of trial participants, inclusion and exclusion criteria and types of stents were also extracted. The bias was mainly assessed through the JADAD scale. This meta-analysis was registered in the PROSPERO database by the number CRD42014015078. The analysis of the absolute risk of the outcomes was performed using the software Rev Man, by computing risk differences(RD) of dichotomous variables and mean differences(MD) of continuous variables. Data on RD and MD for each primary outcome were calculated using the MantelHaenszel test and inconsistency was qualified and reported in χ2 and the Higgins method(I2). Sensitivity analysis was performed when heterogeneity was higher than 50%, a subsequent assay was done and other findings were compiled. Student's t-test was used for the comparison of weighted arithmetic means regarding secondary ***: Initial searching identified 3660 studies; 3539 were excluded through title, repetition, and/or abstract, while 121 studies were fully assessed and were excluded mainly because they did not compare self-expanding metal stents(SEMS) and plastic stents(PS), leading to thirteen RCT selected, with 13 articles and 1133 subjects meta-analyzed. The mean age was 69.5 years old, that were affected mostly by bile duct(proximal) and pancreatic tumors(distal). The ultrasonic welding process for wires is being largely used on industry mainly on applications that involve the connectionbetween similar or different metals. The biggest benefit of this technology is the possibility to perform the weld without additionmaterials, like terminals, metal rings or tapes. Manufacturing of wiring harnesses demands a significant amount of joining, such aswelding, crimping or soldering, to fulfill the desired layout of the harnesses and capacity requirements, but conventional connectionprocesses, face difficulties in joining multiple cross sections mainly due to the characteristics of the processes and equipment in *** metal welding process overcomes these issues due to the solid-state characteristics inherent to the process itself that includethe excellent electrical properties of the joint. Several researches on ultrasonic metal welding are being done to define the fundamentalmechanisms behind this process and it is being seen that they are completely dependent on the cross section to be welded. With thisresearch we are trying to develop methods for process characterization and define acceptable quality parameters in this process. Themain topics addressed in this paper are the characterization the weld formation using copper-to-copper wires using optical microscopyand the analysis of insulation material when submitted to different thermal conditions.

AIM To evaluate the parathyroid ultrasonography and define parameters that can predict poor response to treatment in patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism due to renal *** This cohort study evaluated 85 patients with chronic kidney disease stage V with parathyroid hormone levels above 800 pg/mL. All patients underwent ultrasonography of the parathyroids and the following parameters were analyzed: Demographic characteristics(etiology of chronic kidney disease, gender, age, dialysis vintage, vascular access, use of vitamin D), laboratory(calcium, phosphorus, parathyroid hormone, alkaline phosphatase, bone alkaline phosphatase), and the occurrence of bone changes, cardiovascular events and death. The χ~2 test were used to compare proportions or the Fisher exact test for small sample frequencies. Student t-test was used to detect differences between the two groups regarding continuous *** Fifty-three patients(66.4%) had parathyroid nodules with higher levels of parathyroid hormone, calcium and phosphorus. Sixteen patients underwent parathyroidectomy and had higher levels of phosphorus and calcium × phosphorus product(P = 0.03 and P = 0.006, respectively). They also had lower mortality(32% vs 68%, P = 0.01) and lower incidence of cardiovascular or cerebrovascular events(27% vs 73%, P = 0.02). Calcium × phosphorus product above 55 mg^2/dL^2 [RR 1.48(1.06, 2.08), P = 0.03], presence of vascular calcification [1.33(1.01, 1.76), P = 0.015] and previous occurrence of vascular events [RR 2.25(1.27, 3.98), P < 0.001] were risk factors for mortality in this population.
