Data Analysis of Multiplex Sequencing at SOLiD Platform:A Probabilistic Approach to Characterization and Reliability Increase

New sequencing technologies such as Illumina/Solexa, SOLiD/ABI, and 454/Roche, revolutionized the biological researches. In this context, the SOLiD platform has a particular sequencing type, known as multiplex run, which enables the sequencing of several samples in a single run. It implies in cost reduction and simplifies the analysis of related samples. Meanwhile, this sequencing type requires an additional filtering step to ensure the reliability of the results. Thus, we propose in this paper a probabilistic model which considers the intrinsic characteristics of each sequencing to characterize multiplex runs and filter low-quality data, increasing the data analysis reliability of multiplex sequencing performed on SOLiD. The results show that the proposed model proves to be satisfactory due to: 1) identification of faults in the sequencing process;2) adaptation and development of new protocols for sample preparation;3) the assignment of a degree of confidence to the data generated;and 4) guiding a filtering process, without discarding useful sequences in an arbitrary manner.

Anemia as a Predictor of Mortality in Patients with Decompensated Heart Failure

Objective： To correlate file presence of anemia with mortality in hospitalized patients with decompensated HF （heart failure）. Methods： A total of 148 patients hospitalized for HF compensation were analyzed from April 1 to December 31, 2017 in a tertiary referral hospital for cardiovascular diseases. The diagnosis of anemia was established according to the Brazilian Ministry of Health criteria, considering a serum hemoglobin value of 〈 13 g/alL for men and 〈 12 g/dL for women. Data were collected through medical and physical attendance records. Statistical analysis was performed using the Epi Info program, version 7.0 for Windows, with Student＇ s t test for unpaired variables, Chi-square test and Fischer test. The significance ofp 〈 0.05 was considered. Results： Of the 148 selected patients, 63.5% were male, 60.1% were over 65 years old, 50.74% were enrolled in the first grade, and 93.2% were self-declared white. The prevalence of anemia observed in the study population was 72 （56.25%）, of which 49 （68%） were male and 23 （32%） were female. The mortality rate of the anemic patients was 19.4%, a total of 14 patients, whereas the non-anemic patients rate was 7.9%. It was observed that patients with worse outcome had hemoglobin 〈 12rag/alL （p = 0.045） and Functional Class （FC IV） by the New York Heart Association （NYHA）（p = 0.0001） at hospital admission. Conclusions： It is noticed that anemia is a frequent finding in patients with HF and that it interferes in the clinical manifestations, with worsening of the prognosis. Anemia treatment is not yet standarized in the HF approach, but patients without anemia appear to evolve with more favorable outcomes than anemia.

The objective of this study was to systematically review the literature about the use of the operating microscope in endodontics. It used sources of bibliographic cataloging electronically identified by MEDLINE via PubMed, LILACS, BBO and Scopus, using as descriptors: Endodontics, anatomy and microscopy. The selected articles were identified from the titles and abstracts, taking into consideration the following criteria: publications ranging from January 2001 to November 2012, case reports, published in an indexed journal, and publications in English language. The search showed 167 articles related to this topic, and these 21 articles met the inclusion criteria. These indicated that a higher magnification helps coronary access and the location of channels to identify and interpret the complexities of the anatomy of root canals, the removal of nuclei and intracoronary fractured instruments, to minimize trauma of surgeries in soft and hard tissues, and detect fractures and microfractures. It was found that its use has provided Endodontics with a significant improvement in vision of the operative field, offering better quality jobs and a higher success rate.

Measures such as residual feed intake(RFI)have been increasingly considered to select cattle with superior feed efficiency,as it is a characteristic of feed efficiency calculated as the difference between observed intake and estimated intake considering metabolic weight and the weight *** feed intake is obtained through the multiple regression equation of observed consumption on metabolic mean live weight and weight *** standard was shared among animals into one herd selected for low RFI(high efficiency)and compared to the one selected for high RFI(low efficiency).There was no correlated response in weight per year and in weight gain,and the effectiveness of low RFI selection in reducing feed costs was proven without affecting ***,selection of animals with negative RFI is not done by selecting animals directly according to the size of the viscera,rather it is done indirectly,that is,when selecting the most efficient animals and normally these animals already have the smallest viscera *** RFI is a trait that presents genetic variability,selectable to improve and has moderate heritability,between 0.30 and *** RFI is important because it reduces the direct economic impacts of reduced feed intake,as well as the effects of environmental impact on reducing methane emissions from enteric fermentation of ruminants.

MCS （mechanical circulatory support） has shown great efficacy in treatment of respiratory mid cardiovascular diseases when conventional therapy is insufficient. The use of ECMO （extracolporeal membrane oxygenation） for the treatment of cardiogenic shock secondary to sepsis is still controversial. Studies have shown that ECMO should be considered as a valuable therapeutic option in cases of refractory cardiovascular dysfunction in severe septic patients, although more studies ale needed to consolidate its efficacy. We report the case of two patients, without previous history of cardiopathy, subjected to temporary MCS, with use of ECMO for the treatment of refractory cardiogenic shock secondary to sepsis.

The objective of this review was to address the stress effects on meat quality considering the main attributes that involve meat *** protein production has been increasing with global demand for meat with meat quality a major concern,especially for more demanding consumers who are looking for quality products to meet their *** quality of the meat is the result of what happened to the animal throughout the production chain,that is,good rearing conditions result in a better meat *** types of stress can be harmful to animals due to inadequate or improper animal handling on farms,inadequate transport conditions,poorly maintained trucks and roads,and conditions that agitate animals can lead to bruising,thermal *** stress in animals occurs when they are in adverse conditions and can significantly compromise meat quality *** an example,stress can significantly affect meat quality parameters as drip loss(DL),meat color,change ultimate pH and cause meat *** the main parameters of evaluation used for meat quality are color,characterized by luminosity(L^*,a^*,b^*),lipid and protein oxidation,pH,water holding capacity(WHC)and *** and processing high-quality meat is a challenge since it is necessary to apply methods that promote comfort in a complete sense,in a way that minimizes inducing significant *** on the results presented it is remarkable that stress alters the meat quality,compromising the main attributes that involve it,like color,pH,WHC,Warner-Bratzler shear force(WBSF),lipid oxidation,among others andis necessary to avoid or reduce stress caused during the production of the animals to ensure a high-quality meat,resulting in greater profitability for the producer.

This study evaluated the effects of freeze-dried red beet(Beta vulgaris L.)root(FDBR)and stem/leaves(FDBSL)on the growth and metabolic activities of the probiotics Lactobacillus acidophilus La-05,Lacticaseibacillus casei 26,and Lismosilactobacillus fermentum 296,as well as on their survival and physiological states when exposed to simulated gastrointestinal conditions(SGIC).The changes in the contents of phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity of FDBR and FDBSL when exposed to SGIC were also *** and FDBSL had high contents of soluble(5.25 and 11.10 g/100 g)and insoluble fiber(21.43 and 37.03 g/100 g),pectins(8.45 and 9.51 g/100 g),betalains(3.36-28.99 g/100 g),and a variety of phenolic *** and FDBSL stimulated the growth of the probiotic strains with high viable counts(>9 log CFU/mL),the production of acetic,butyric,lactic,and propionic acids,and alterations in the contents of phenolic compounds during 72 h of *** and FDBSL had positive prebiotic activity scores on the tested probiotics(≥0.17)linked to selective stimulatory *** and FDBSL increased the survival and maintenance of active physiological functions in the probiotic during exposure to *** contents of phenolic compounds and the antioxidant activity of FDBR and FDBSL increased after exposure to the stomach conditions,while the antioxidant activity decreased after exposure to intestine *** stimulatory and protective effects of FDBR and FDBSL on probiotic strains could be associated with their dietary fiber and phenolic compound contents,which could be exploited in the formulation of functional foods or dietary supplements.

Objective:To identify self-care actions for the maintenance of arteriovenous fistula of renal ***:An integrative review study was conducted and literature were searched in Medline/PubMed,Scopus,CINAHL LILACS,BDENF and SciELO Library databases using the descriptors chronic renal insufficiency,arteriovenous fistula,self-care,and *** inclusion criteria were that the documents be written in Portuguese,English,and Spanish,full text available,published in the last five years,and that they address the research *** articles,theses,dissertations,editorials of nonscientific journals,and research studies that did not follow the necessary methodological rigor were *** were analyzed with the IRAMUJTEQ ***:Fifteen articles were selected and comprised the final *** classes of self-care actions emerged from the text segments analysis and grouped into three categories:(1)Self-care actions that maintain the arteriovenous fistula;(2)Self-care actions for the prevention and the monitoring of complications with arteriovenous fistula;(3)Self-care actions directed at the perioperative period of arteriovenous fistula ***:The results allowed us to identify important care for the maintenance of arteriovenous fistula *** self-care actions identified in this study can guide a nursing care policy for implementation with protocols that help identify problems related to self-care actions and,thus,subsidize the development of actions aimed at the renal ***,more studies with high levels of evidence that identify self-care actions with arteriovenous fistula and the factors involved in its implementation are needed.
