Microalgae biomass has been reported in the literature as one of the most promising sources for obtaining different products of industrial interest such as lipids, fatty acids, carotenoids, proteins and fibers. The lipid fraction of microalgae comprises neutral lipids, free fatty acids and polar lipids. It is of great importance to estimate the composition of the lipid fraction to define the potential for use, either as a raw material for the production of biofuels or for use for nutraceuticals and/or food purposes. The microalgae Scenedesmus sp. cultivated in a photobioreactor, the sky open raceway type,dana;">dana;">dana;font-size:12px;"> was evaluated for lipid content, identification and quantification of lipid components obtained from different extracts. In the quantification of the lipid content, extraction methods were proposed without chemical treatment (use of solvents only) such as chloroform:methanol (2:1 v/v)—Bligh & dyer, Ethanol, Ethyl acetate:Hexane (1:1 v/v) and others with chemical treatment such as J-Schmid-Bondzynski-Ratzlaff (acid) and saponification (basic). Boosting energy-storage capability in carbon-based supercapacitors using low-temperature water-in-salt electrolytes

Supercapacitors(SCs) are high-power energy storage devices with ultra-fast charge/discharge *** using concentrated aqueous-based electrolytes can work at low temperatures due to their intrinsic properties, such as higher freezing point depression(FPd) and robustness. Besides the traditional organic-and aqueous-based(salt-in-water) electrolytes used in SCs, water-in-salt(WISE) sodium perchlorate electrolytes offer high FPd, non-flammability, and low-toxicity conditions, allowing the fabrication of safer, environmentally friendly, and more robust devices. For the first time, this work reports a comprehensive study regarding WISE system’s charge-storage capabilities and physicochemical properties under low-temperature conditions(T d electrodes. The effect of temperature reduction on the electrolyte viscosity and electrical properties was investigated using different techniques and the in-situ(or operando) Raman spectroscopy under dynamic polarization *** cell voltage, equivalent series resistance, and specific capacitance were investigated as a function of the temperature. The cell voltage(U) increased ~ 50%, while the specific capacitance decreased ~20%when the temperature was reduced from 25 ℃ to -10 ℃. As a result, the maximum specific energy(E = CU^(2)/2) increased ~ 100%. Therefore, low-temperature WISEs are promising cand.d.tes to improve the energy-storage characteristics in SCs.

Large primary hepatic gastrinoma in young patient treated with trisegmentectomy: A case report and review of the literature

Primary hepatic gastrinoma is a rare disease, with fewer than 40 cases reported in the medical literature. Because it is located in an organ in which metastases are common, its diagnosis is difficult. We report a case of a 19 years old male patient with a history of gastric ulcers since the age of nine. Following gastric surgery, an antrectomy and a vagotomy, there was some alleviation of symptoms. Subsequently, the patient reported various intermittent episodes of diarrhea, diffuse abdominal pain, and vomiting. The patient underwent tomography, which revealed the presence of a hepatic mass measuring 19.5 cm × 12.5 cm × 17 cm. Primary hepatic gastrinoma was diagnosed based on laboratory examinations that indicated hypergastrinemia and a positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance study with somatostatin analogue that confirmed the liver as the primary site. After hepatic trisegmentectomy(Ⅱ, Ⅲ, Ⅳ, Ⅴ, Ⅷ), the patient's symptoms improved. The case is notable for the presence of a rare tumor with uncommon dimensions.

Comparison between Two Ethanolic Solutions for 3’-deoxy-3’-[<sup>18</sup>F]Fluorothymidine Elution

3’-deoxy-3’-[18F]Fluorothymidine—[18F]FLT is a Positron Emission Tomography (PET) tracer which has been used for noninvasive assessment of proliferation activity in several types of cancer. during the past few years, some novel approaches for [18F]FLT synthesis have been developed, mainly focused on optimization of reaction conditions and purification methods. The present study reports the use of two different eluents in the final step of [18F]FLT production and the evaluation of its effect on radiochemical yield and product quality. The first eluent evaluated was water: ethanol (90:10, v/v), commercially available, and the second was NaCl 0.9% (saline): ethanol (92:8, v/v). The mean of the corrected radiochemical yields correspond.d.to 27% ± 7% for elution with water and ethanol and to 23% ± 3% for elution with saline and ethanol, which could indicate that the eluent solutions have similar elution strength. Besides, quality control results were in accordance with the requirements and.d.monstrated that there was no significant difference between both formulations. Considering that pharmaceutical preparations containing ethanol should be preferentially diluted with saline to avoid hemolysis, the eluent saline:ethanol (92:8, v/v) was chosen for [18F]FLT extraction and final formulation.

AIM: To analyze the level of apoptosis in different mucosal compartments and the differential expression of Fas/Fas-ligand and perforin in H pylori-associated gastric ulcer. METHOdS: Antral specimens from patients with H pylori-related active gastric ulcer (GU), H pylori-related gastritis, and non-infected controls were analysed for densities and.d.stribution of apoptotic cells determined by the TdT-mediated.d.dP-biotin nick-end-labelling method. GU patients were submitted to eradication therapy with follow-up biopsy after 60 d. Fas, FasL, and perforin-expressing cells were assessed by immunoper- oxidase, and with anti-Cd3, anti-Cd20 and anti-Cd68 by double immunofluorescence and confocal microscopy. Quantitative analysis was performed using a computer- assisted image analyser. RESULTS: H pylori-infected antrum showed greater surface epithelial apoptosis which decreased after eradi- cation therapy. In the lamina propria, higher rates of mononuclear cell apoptosis were observed in H pylori- gastritis. Co-expression of Fas with T-cell and macro- phage markers was reduced in GU. FasL- and perforin-expressing cells were increased in H pylori-infection and correlated with epithelial apoptosis. Perforin-expressing cells were also increased in GU compared with H pylori- gastritis. CONCLUSION: Epithelial apoptosis is increased in H pylori-infection and correlates to FasL- and perforin- expression by T cells. Expression of perforin is correlated with the tissue damage, and may represent the enhance- ment of a distinct cytotoxic pathway in GU. Increased expression of FasL not paralleled by Fas on T-cells and macrophages may indicate a reduced susceptibility to the Fas/FasL-mediated apoptosis of lymphoid cells in H pylori-infection.
