Academic Stress Assessment Using Virtual Reality as an Educational Tool in Spine Surgery

Introduction: The evaluation of academic stress in medical students and residents is a topic of significant interest, given the considerable challenges they face during their learning process with traditional teaching methods. The use of technologies like virtual reality presents an opportunity to enhance their skills through simulations and training. The main objective of this study is to qualitatively assess the stress levels experienced by medical students and residents by integrating virtual reality into their current learning methods, aiming to improve their ability to manage stressors in their practice. material and methods: A questionnaire was conducted with 12 medical students and 12 Traumatology and orthopedics residents. The purpose of the questionnaire was to evaluate the levels of academic stress using the SISCO inventory. The stress levels were calculated by transforming average values into percentages, and the following criteria were assigned: 0 to 33% for mild Stress, 34 to 66% for moderate Stress, and 67 to 100% for Deep Stress. Then, a virtual reality class focused on spine surgery was provided. Both medical students and residents were trained using the Non Nocere SharpSurgeon software platform.a.d Oculus Quest 2 virtual reality glasses. At the end of the session, a second questionnaire related to the practice with virtual reality was conducted with the same evaluation criteria and a com.a.ative analysis was carried out. Results: 12 undergraduate students from Hospital Angeles mexico, CDmX and 12 traumatology and orthopedics residents at Hospital Santa Fe, Bogota were evaluated. The students in CDmX reported an average qualitative stress of 28.50% during habitual practices, which decreased to an average of 14.67% after virtual reality practice. Residents in Bogotá experienced an average qualitative stress of 30.50% with their current learning methods but this reduced to an average of 13.92% after using virtual reality. Introduction: mild and moderate Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI) against Rotavirus has not received much attention when the vaccine is administered regardless of recommended age restriction. Objectives: To describe the behavior of mild and moderate AEFI in immunized subjects against Rotavirus, in who age restriction period had not been considered. methods: A case-control study in which we included immunized patients with monovalent oral vaccine against rotavirus and divided them into two groups: 1) Infants who received RV1 vaccine without considering the recommended period, and 2) Infants who were vaccinated with the recommended schedule. Results: From the total doses, 143/1894 (7.5%) were administered outside the restriction period. The most frequent AEFIs with the first dose were purpura, polypnea, and rhinorrhea;For the second dose: purpura, bloody stools, irritability and rhinorrhea. Conclusions: This study shows the benefits from vaccination regardless of age restriction are more beneficial com.a.ed to the possible risks of AEFI.

COVID-19 generates systematic alterations in humans both in active stages of infection and over time, called post-COVID syndrome. Cortisol is a hormone that is overexpressed in inflam.a.ion and cellular stress processes. Its main function is to return to physiological homeostasis, so its evaluation together with other clinical parameters can allow us to determine the degree of systemic affectation by COVID-19. Objective: To evaluate changes in clinical parameters and plasma cortisol concentrations in patients with active COVID-19 and post-COVID syndrome. material and methods: Healthy patients, in stages of mild infection, critical and with post-COVID syndrome, were recruited, obtaining, through clinical diagnoses and interviews, their main clinical characteristics, in addition to plasma, in which cortisol concentrations were determined using competitive ELISA. Results: The critical stage group had higher frequencies of comorbidities, clinical symptoms, as well as more altered laboratory parameters com.a.ed to the other subgroups. In the post-COVID syndrome group after the initial infection, most laboratory parameters recovered, however, several clinical symptoms remained latent over time. The determination of cortisol showed an increase in its concentration, being higher in patients in critical stage and with post-COVID syndrome. Conclusion: COVID-19 disease generates clinical alterations that trigger an increase in plasma cortisol. These alterations increase as the stages of infection become more severe and some of them remain altered in patients with post-COVID syndrome.

Four “cuajada” type fresh cheeses were evaluated by two trained panels in different regions from Oaxaca in mexico (Instituto Tecnológico de Comitancillo (ITC) and Universidad del mar (UmAR)). Each panel was integrated by six judges. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) in conjunction with principal component analysis (PCA) and the Rv coefficient were used to identify similarities and consensus among trained judges and panels. The ANOVA results revealed that the judges from ITC performed significantly better (P mination and repetitivity, while both panels showed a similar effect in discrimination. The PCA determined some similarities in the position of cheeses in the sensory space, while Rv revealed that judges and panels were consensual. In conclusion, statistical resources determined that both panels were discriminating and that similarities in the positioning of cheeses in the sensory space were found.

Adhesion of P-type and type-1 fimbriated uropathogenic ***(UPEC)to uroepithelial cells initiates urinary tract infections(UTIs).This research aimed to evaluate the capacities of selected cranberry polyphenols and their microbial metabolites to inhibit such adhesion in vitro using a modified fluorometric *** showed that the inhibition capacity of myricetin increased with concentration and plateaued at 70%.It had IC50 values of 13.2μm.a.ainst P-type *** and 5.50μm.a.ainst type-1 *** showed similar anti-adhesion capacities to *** A2 and B2 had weaker anti-adhesion activities than myricetin and quercetin,with maximal inhibition capacities of 20%-30%against *** acid,a major metabolite of cranberry polyphenols in human urine,showed a maximal inhibition of 20%at 558μm.a.ainst type-1 *** adhesion,whereas no anti-adhesion activity against P-type *** was *** fractions of cranberry fruit powder enriched with proanthocyanidin polymers showed the highest anti-adhesion activities com.a.ed to the fractions enriched with anthocyanins,flavonols,or proanthocyanidin ***,the anti-adhesion activities of cranberry polyphenols and metabolites depend on their structures and the types of fimbriae on ***.

Purpose: To report a case of bilateral endogenous fungal endophthalmitis resulting from disseminated Scedosporium prolificans. Design: Observational case report. methods: A56- year- old woman with cystic fibrosis status post dual lung transplantation on chronic immunosuppressive therapy presented with acute graft rejection. Cultures of bronchial brushings revealed S. prolificans. Three weeks after admission, the patient noted increased blurriness and a central scotoma in her right eye. Dilated fundus examination revealed profound vitritis in the right eye with hemorrhagic retinitis involving the macula. A peripheral, yellow choroidal infiltrate with overlying retinitis and localized vitritis was present in the left eye. Results: Intravitreal antibiotics were initiated, and vitreous cultures revealed S. prolificans. The patient ultimately succumbed to her disseminated disease. Pathologic examination of the eyes confirmed bilateral endogenous fungal endophthalmitis. Conclusion: S. prolificans is an opportunistic infection resistant to standard antifungal therapy that can result in endogenous endophthalmitis in immunocompromised individuals.

研究在饲粮中添加燕麦壳和甜菜渣对1～42日龄肉仔鸡的生产性能和消化道特征的影响。试验设计3种日粮,对照组是以水稻、大豆蛋白精料和含有粗纤维(15g·kg-1)的鱼粉为基础日粮,两个试验组日粮在对照组日粮的基础上分别加入燕麦壳(OH)与甜菜渣(SBP)30g·kg-1。养分的氮沉积和全消化道表观消化率系数(CTTAD)在32日龄进行测定,在42日龄,测定胃肠道和在胴体切块产量的相对体重(RW,g·kg-1体重)。此外,从1～42d对生长性能进行测试。在整个试验期内,肉鸡饲喂OH与饲喂SBP和基础日粮相比,体重增加(P≤0.01),料重比提高(P≤0.01)。在1～10日龄,与对照组相比,饲喂OH组提高日增重和料重比(P≤0.01)。同时,饲喂SBP也可以提高料重比,但随着年龄的增加此现象逐渐消失。实际上,在25～42日龄时,饲喂SBP的饲料采食率低于对照组(P≤0.05)和饲喂OH(P≤0.001),平均增重也低于OH组(P≤0.001)。但是饲喂SBP的肉鸡胃肠道重量高于对照组与饲喂OH组(P≤0.05)。饲喂OH组肉鸡的肌胃重量随着日粮纤维的供给而增加(P≤0.001),且高于饲喂SBP(P≤0.05),但在肌胃中的食糜却有相反的数量关系。日龄可以提高生长性能,但之后没有效果。饲喂OH与SBP进行比较,前者效果更为明显。试验结果表明,饲喂OH的肉仔鸡在所有阶段都可以提高其生长性能。同时,在1～10日龄,饲喂SBP的肉鸡腿部和胸部的生长基本不受不同日粮组成的影响。纤维物质增加了日粮中所有营养物质和代谢能的CTTAD值。研究中对干物质和氮的CTTAD值的提高作用,饲喂OH组高于饲喂SBP组(P≤0.01)。

Background: Chagas disease is still a public health problem because of the remaining high prevalence, the expansion of the disease into developed countries and the re-emergences by oral transmission outbreaks. Chagas cardiomyopathy evolves as a consequence of an autonomic un-balance where the parasym.a.hetic tone is undermined. Objective: To determine the functionality and expression of muscarinic cholinergic receptors in acute Chagas disease. methodology: 62 male, 3-week-old Sprague Dawley rats were assayed;32 were infected with Trypanosoma cruzi trypo-mastigotes and 30 were healthy controls. Electrocardiographic studies were conducted in the absence or presence of direct muscarinic (oxotremorine and mcN-A-343) or indirect agonists (phenylephrine) or antagonist (pirenzepine). muscarinic m1 and m2 receptor expression was determined by radioligand [3H]-QNB binding assay and immunoblot. Results: Chagasic acute myocarditis was sustained by electrocardiographic signs and histopathological findings. Bradycardia induced by oxotremorine was significantly higher in healthy rats (HR) and the differences were enhanced by CsCl. In the absence of the agonist, CsCl induced a greater bradycardia in chagasic rats (ChR). In HR mcN-A-343 induced tachycardia, however it induces bradycardia in the presence of a acetylcholinesterase inhibitor (neostigmine);no effects were observed in ChR. Pirenzepine induced a higher tachycardia in HR. Phenylephrine in the presence of pirenzepine induced a similar bradycardia in both groups, but recovery was faster in ChR. muscarinic m1 and m2 receptor density was higher in HR. Conclusion: muscarinic receptor expression and functionality are decreased in the acute Chagas disease that could im.a.t the evolution and prognosis of the disease.
