Structural analyses in the northern part of the North Patagonia Massif, in the foliated Caita Co granite and in La Sefia and Pangare mylonites, indicate that the pluton was intruded as a sheet-like body into an opening pull-apart structure during the Gondwana Orogeny. Geochronological studies in the massif indicate a first, lower to middle Permian stage of regional deformation, related to movements during indentation tectonics, with emplacement of foliated granites in the western and central areas of the North Patagonian Massif. Between the upper Permian and lower Triassic, evidence indicates emplacement of undeformed granitic bodies in the central part of the North Patagonian Massif. A second pulse of deformation between the middle and upper Triassic is related to the emplacement of the Caita CO granite, the development of mylonitic belts, and the opening of the Los Menucos Basin. during this pulse of deformation, compression direction was from the eastern quadrant.

The confocal microscopy technique was applied for nonlinear optical characterization of single β-barium-borate（β-BBO） nanocrystals. The experimental setup allows measurements of the laser polarization-selective secondharmonic（SH） generation, and the results can be used to determine the nanocrystals＇ c-axis orientation, as well as to obtain information about their second-order susceptibility χ^（2）. The dependence of the SH signal on the laser polarization allowed the discrimination of individual particles from aggregates. The data were fitted using a model that takes into account the BBO properties and the experimental setup characteristics considering（i） the electrostatic approximation,（ii） the effects of the microscope objective used to focus the light on the sample in an epi-geometry configuration, and（iii） the symmetry of χ^（2） for the β-BBO nanocrystals. A signal at the third-harmonic frequency was also detected, but it was too weak to be studied in detail.

The metasedimentary sequence of the Cushamen Formation in the western North Patagonian Massif is540 m thick and comprises six sedimentary lithofacies associations related to a glacimarine *** of these lithofacies represent distal glacimarine environments, whereas another one was deposited in proximal glacimarine environments, and the last includes subglacial environments. The organization and configuration of these lithofacies associations represent the advance and retreat of the glacier masses. The maximum glacial advance is correlatable with the G2 glacial interval of the Pennsylvanian Pampa de Tepuel, Las Salinas and Valley Chico, formations of the Extraandean Chubut, and the southern part of Neuquen Cordillera. Contemporaneously, in southern Chile there are marine and glacimarine sediments. The chronostratigraphic relationships between the Silurian to Permian units allow five paleogeographic stages to be distinguished. The middle Silurian-late devonian igneous rocks represent the first magmatic stage. The second stage, which is transitional to the first, is represented by a marine basin that includes the late devonian-early Carboniferous Esquel and Rio Pescado formations and the Llanquihue Complex. The third stage(early-late Carboniferous) includes granitoids of the second magmatic event that partially overlapped the first magmatic igneous belt. The fourth stage belongs to the late Carboniferous sedimentation of the Cushamen and equivalent formations. The extended early Permian magmatism was the last Paleozoic event in the studied area.

An experimental study of high-spin states in 79Kr has been performed at the GASP array using the reaction 55Mn(30Si, αpn). Nine new states along with 10 new gamma ray transitions were found in the Kπ=5/2- band in 79Kr. Three band crossings, associated with the alignments of a πg9/2 pair and a πg9/2 pair and also a high-j 5h11/2 intrude orbital, were observed at rotational frequency h=0.50, 0.65 and 0.90 MeV, respectively. A cranked shell model analysis has been made to interpret the experimental results.

The aim of this study was to evaluate methods for breaking dormancy of seeds Neonotonia wightii (perennial soybean), Macrotiloma axilare (archer), Pueraria phaseoloides (tropical kudzu), Calopogonium mucunoides (calopo), which were subjected to the following treatments for physical breaks and physiological dormancy: 1) control;2) scarification with sandpaper;3) immersion in H2SO4 98% for five minutes and subsequent washing in water;4) preheating at 60°C for 150 minutes in an air circulating oven;5) 0.2% KNO3;and 6) gibberellic acid (GA3 0.5%). The results showed that using H2SO4 to break seed dormancy archer and perennial soybean and calopo scarification with sandpaper were the most recommended treatments. Tropical Kudzu presented physiological response to treatments with the use of gibberellic acid and physical treatment using immersion H2SO4. Thus, it is necessary to use techniques to make the breaking dormancy of seeds of legumes, resulting in an increase in the rate of seed germination and rapid.deployment of the legume.

A framework is proposed to characterize and forecast the displacement trends of slow-moving landslides, defined as the reactivation stage of phenomena in rocks or fine-grained soils, with movements localized along one or several existing shear surfaces. The framework is developed based on a thorough analysis of the scientific literature and with reference to significant reported case studies for which a consistent dataset of continuous displacement measurements is available. Three distinct trends of movement are defined to characterize the kinematic behavior of the active stages of slow-moving landslides in a velocity-time plot: a linear trend-type I, which is appropriate for stationary phenomena; a convex shaped trend-type II, which is associated with rapid increases in pore water pressure due to rainfall, followed by a slow decrease in the groundwater level with time; and a concave shaped trend-type III, which denotes a non-stationary process related to the presence of new boundary conditions such as those associated with the development of a newly formed local slip surface that connects with the main existing slip surface. Within the proposed framework, a model is developed to forecast future displacements for active stages of trend-type II based on displacement measurements at the beginning of the stage. The proposed model is validated by application to two case studies.

The teaching–learning-based optimisation (TLBO) algorithm is a population-based metaheuristic inspired on the teaching–learning process observed in a classroom. It has been successfully used in a wide range of applications. In this study, the authors present a variant version of TLBO. In the proposed version, different weights are assigned to students during the student phase, with higher weights being assigned to students with better solutions. Three different approaches to assign weights are investigated. Numerical experiments with benchmark instances of the flow-shop and the job-shop scheduling problems are carried out to investigate the performance of the proposed approaches. They compare the proposed approaches with the original TLBO algorithm and with two variants of TLBOs proposed in the literature in terms of solution quality, convergence speed and simulation time. The results obtained by the application of a Friedman statistical test showed that the proposed approaches outperformed the original version of TLBO in terms of convergence, with no significant losses in the average makespan. The additional simulation time required by the proposed approaches is small. The best performance was achieved with the approach of assigning a fixed weight to half the students with the best solutions and assigning zero to other students.
