Thermal and catalytic pyrolysis of a synthetic mixture representative of packaging plastics residue

A synthetic mixture of real waste packaging plastics representative of the residue from a material recovery facility(plasmix)was submitted to thermal and catalytic *** thermogravimetry experiments coupled with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy were performed to evaluate the effects of the catalysts on the polymers’degradation temperatures and to determine the main compounds produced during *** thermal and catalytic experiments were conducted at 370℃,450℃ and 650℃ using a bench scale *** oil,gas,and char yields were analyzed and the compositions of the reaction products were *** primary aim of this study was to understand the effects of zeolitic hydrogen ultra stable zeolite Y(HUSY)and hydrogen zeolite socony mobil-5(HZSM5)catalysts with high silica content on the pyrolysis process and the products’*** showed that HUSY significantly reduces the degradation temperature of all the polymers—particularly the ***5 had a significant effect on the degradation of polyethylene due to its smaller pore *** balance showed that oil is always the main product of pyrolysis,regardless of the process ***,all pyrolysis runs performed at 370℃ were *** use of either zeolites resulted in a decrease in the heavy oil fraction and the prevention of wax *** has the best performance in terms of the total monoaromatic yield(29 wt-%at 450℃),while HZSM5 promoted the production of gases(41 wt-%at 650℃).Plasmix is a potential input material for pyrolysis that is positively affected by the presence of the two tested zeolites.A more effective separation of polyethylene terephthalate during the selection process could lead to higher quality pyrolysis products.

Recurrence and survival following microwave, radiofrequency ablation, and hepatic resection of colorectal liver metastases: A systematic review and network meta-analysis

Background: Gold standard for colorectal liver metastases(CRLM) remains hepatic resection(HR). However, patients with severe comorbidities, unresectable or deep-situated resectable CRLM are candidates for ablation. The aim of the study was to compare recurrence rate and survival benefit of the microwave ablation(MWA), radiofrequency ablation(RFA) and HR by conducting the first network meta-analysis. data sources: Systematic search of the literature was conducted in the electronic databases. Both updated traditional and network meta-analyses were conducted and the results were compared between them. Results: HR cohort demonstrated significantly less local recurrence rate and better 3-and 5-year diseasefree(dFS) and overall survival(OS) compared to MWA and RFA cohorts. HR cohort included significantly younger patients and with significantly lower preoperative carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA) by 10.28 ng/m L compared to RFA cohort. Subgroup analysis of local recurrence and OS of solitary and ≤3 cm CRLMs did not demonstrate any discrepancies when compared with the whole sample. Conclusions: For resectable CRLM the treatment of choice still remains HR. MWA and RFA can be used as a single or adjunct treatment in patients with unresectable CRLM and/or prohibitive comorbidities.

Recovering extracellular polymeric substances(EPS)from waste granular sludge offers a cost-effective and sustainable approach for transforming wastewater resources into industrially valuable ***,the application potential of these EPS in real-world scenarios,particularly in paper manufacturing,remains *** we show the feasibility of EPS-based biomaterials,derived from anaerobic granular sludges,as novel coating agents in paper *** systematically characterised the rheological properties of various EPS-based *** applied as surface sizing agents,these EPS-based biomaterials formed a distinct,ultra-thin layer on paper,as evidenced by scanning electron microscopy.A comprehensive evaluation of water and oil penetration,along with barrier properties,revealed that EPS-enhanced coatings markedly diminished water absorption while significantly bolstering oil and grease *** performance was observed in EPS variants with elevated protein and hydrophobic contents,correlating with their superior rheological *** enhanced water-barrier and grease resistance of EPS-coated paper can be attributed to its non-porous,fine surface structure and the functional groups in EPS,particularly the high protein content and hydrophobic humic-like *** research marks the first demonstration of utilizing EPS from anaerobic granular sludge as paper-coating biomaterials,bridging a critical knowledge gap in the sustainable use of biopolymers in industrial applications.

Short-term clinical outcomes of laparoscopic vs open rectal excision for rectal cancer: A systematic review and metaanalysis

AIM To review evidence on the short-term clinical outcomes of laparoscopic(LRR) vs open rectal resection(ORR) for rectal *** A systematic literature search was performed using Cochrane Central Register, MEdLINE, EMBASE, Scopus, Open Grey and Clinical *** register for randomized clinical trials(RCTs) comparing LRR vs ORR for rectal cancer and reporting short-term clinical outcomes. Articles published in English from January 1, 1995 to June, 30 2016 that met the selection criteria were retrieved and reviewed. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analysis(PRISMA) statements checklist for reporting a systematic review was followed. Random-effect models were used to estimate mean differences and risk ratios. The robustness and heterogeneity of the results were explored by performing sensitivity analyses. The pooledeffect was considered significant when P ded. No differences were found in postoperative mortality(P = 0.19) and morbidity(P = 0.75) rates. The mean operative time was 36.67 min longer(95%CI: 27.22-46.11, P d blood loss was 88.80 ml lower(95%CI:-117.25 to-60.34, P d the mean incision length was 11.17 cm smaller(95%CI:-13.88 to-8.47, P d by sensitivity analyses that focused on the four major RCTs. The mean length of hospital stay was 1.71 d shorter(95%CI:-2.84 to-0.58, P day of the first bowel movement) was 0.68 d shorter(95%CI:-1.00 to-0.36, P did not confirm a significant difference between LRR and ORR for these latter two parameters. The overall quality of the evidence was rated as high. CONCLUSION LRR is associated with lesser blood loss, smaller incision length, and longer operative times compared to ORR. No differences are observed for postoperative morbidity and mortality.

Steroidal glycoalkaloids（SGAs） are nitrogen-containing secondary metabolites of the Solanum species,which are known to have large chemical and bioactive diversity in *** recent effort and.development on LC/MS techniques for SGA profiling have elucidated the main pathways of SGA metabolism in tomato,the problem of peak annotation still remains due to the vast diversity of chemical structure and similar on overlapping of chemical *** we provide a case study of peak classification and annotation approach by integration of species and tissue specificities of SGA accumulation for provision of comprehensive pathways of SGA *** order to elucidate natural diversity of SGA biosynthesis,a total of 169 putative SGAs found in eight tomato accessions（Soianum lycopersicum, ***, ***, ***, ***,***,***,***） and four tissue types were used for correlation *** results obtained in this study contribute annotation and classification of SGAs as well as detecting putative novel biosynthetic branch *** such this represents a novel strategy for peak annotation for plant secondary metabolites.

The interest in dynamic modulation of light by ultra-thin materials exhibiting insulator–metal phase transition,such as VO_(2),has rapidly grown due to the myriad industrial applications,including smart windows and optical ***,for applications in the telecommunication spectral band,the light modulation through a thin VO_(2) film is low due to the presence of strong material ***,we demonstrate tailored nanostructuring of VO_(2) to dramatically enhance its transmission modulation,reaching a value as high as 0.73,which is 2 times larger than the previous modulation *** resulting designs,including free-topology optimization,demonstrate the fundamental limit in acquiring the desired optical performance,including achieving positive or negative transmission *** results on nanophotonic management of lossy nanostructured films open new opportunities for applications of VO_(2) metasurfaces.

Assessment of liver fibrosis in chronic hepatitis C virus(HCV)infection is considered a relevant part of patient care and key for decision *** liver biopsy has been considered the gold standard for staging liver fibrosis,it is an invasive technique and subject to sampling errors and significant intra-and inter-observer *** the last decade,several noninvasive markers were proposed for liver fibrosis diagnosis in chronic HCV infection,with variable *** the clear advantage of being noninvasive,a more objective interpretation of test results may overcome the mentioned intra-and inter-observer variability of liver *** addition,these tests can theoretically offer a more accurate view of fibrogenic events occurring in the entire liver with the advantage of providing frequent fibrosis evaluation without additional ***,in general,these tests show low accuracy in discriminating between intermediate stages of fibrosis and may be influenced by several hepatic and extrahepatic *** methods are either serum markers(usually combined in a mathematical model)or imaging modalities that can be used separately or combined in algorithms to improve *** this review we will discuss the different noninvasive methods that are currently available for the evaluation of liver fibrosis in chronic hepatitis C,their advantages,limitations and application in clinical practice.

Effects of Soluble Silicate and Nanosilica Application on Rice Nutrition in an Oxisol

Silicon （Si） has been supplied to plants via application of calcium silicate to soil; however, high doses of calcium silicate are required because of its low solubility. Nanoparticles can reduce Si doses and be applied to seeding furrows. This study investigated the effects of liquid Si sources, i.e., highly soluble silicate （115.2 g L^-1 Si and 60.5 g L^-1 Na20） and nanosilica （〈 200 nm）, on Si uptake by rice plants, plant lignification, plant C：N：P stoichiometry, plant physiology, and grain yield using an Oxisol under greanhouse condistions. The treatments included the application of nanosilica and soluble silicate to seeding furrows at Si doses of 0, 605, 1210, and 2 420 g ha^-1. Plant uptake and treatment effects were evaluated by measuring C and lignin contents, Si, N, and P accumulation, physiological characteristics, and grain yield of rice. The deposition of silica bodies and amorphous silica in the flag leaves was analyzed using scanning electron microscopy. Application of liquid Si increased Si accumulation in rice by 47.3% in relation to the control （0 g ha^-1 Si）, regardless of the Si sources used. Nanosilica application increased leaf lignin content by 112.7% when compared to that in the control. Silicon moderately affected the net C assimilation （increased by 1.83%） and transpiration rates （increased by 48.3%）; however, Si influenced neither plant growth nor grain yield of rice. These results are explained by the lack of biotic or abiotic stress in rice plants during the experiment. To the best of our knowledge, in Brazilian agriculture, this is the first report on the use of nanosilica as a Si fertilizer and its effect on plant nutrition. This study provides evidence that rice plants absorb and accumulate nanoparticles; however, further studies are required to investigate the use of nanoparticles in other plant species.
