BACKGROUND p.tients with typ. 1 diabetes (T1D) and their first-degree relatives (FDRs) have an increased risk of develop.ng celiac disease (CD) comp.red to the general p.p.lation. This is largely exp.ained by the shared association with major histocomp.tibility class II human leukocyte antigen (HLA) DQ2 and/or DQ8 between the two disease states. AIM To describe the frequency of CD autoimmunity (CDA) and the distribution of HLA and hap.oglobin genotyp.s in p.tients with T1D and their FDRs. Additionally, we aimed at identifying p.edictors associated with an increased risk of develop.ng CDA in p.tients with T1D and their family members. METHODS We obtained clinical information and blood samp.es from 1027 p.rticip.nts (302 with T1D and 725 FDRs) over a five-year p.riod. Samp.es were tested for autoantibodies associated with CD, HLA-DQ alleles, and hap.oglobin *** fit univariate and multip.e logistic regression models for CDA sep.rately for subjects with T1D and for FDRs of subjects with T1D. RESULTS Imp.ementation of a screening p.ogram increased the frequency of CDA by 2- fold in p.rticip.nts with T1D and 2.8-fold in their FDRs. Multivariate analysis found that, in p.rticip.nts with T1D, having both DR7-DQ2 and DR4-DQ8 was associated with an increased frequency of CDA. In FDRs of T1D p.tients, rep.rted CD in the family was associated with an increased frequency of CDA during screening. Hap.oglobin 2 genotyp. was not associated with develop.ng CDA in the multivariate analysis. CONCLUSION p.tients with T1D and their FDRs have a high frequency of CDA. Carrying both DR7-DQ2 and DR4-DQ8 was associated with develop.ent of CDA in p.tients with T1D.

已往的研究对于实验室应用的各种啮齿类动物,如大鼠和小鼠骨骼肌蛋白表达的特性已有报道。然而,至今不清楚其它啮齿类动物如野生鼠骨骼肌蛋白的表达或性双态性的特征,而这些野生鼠的行为学、形态学及生理学特点均已有报道。已知骨骼肌的肌球蛋白重链( MHC)成分与其功能特性有关。我们研究了草原田鼠的肱三头肌、胫骨前肌、腓肠肌和比目鱼肌MHC蛋白表达的性别特性。应用SDS聚丙烯酰胺凝胶电泳法测定MHCⅠ型、Ⅱa型、Ⅱd/x和Ⅱb型的蛋白表达相对含量。结果表明:与雌鼠相比,雄鼠的比目鱼肌湿重较大,胫骨前肌的MHCⅡa蛋白量表达较高。未见骨骼肌重量及MHC蛋白表达含量在雌雄鼠间的性别差异。血中睾酮的浓度差异可能不影响外周骨骼肌蛋白的表达特性。然而,与过去在大鼠、兔和小鼠中的已报道的结果相比,草原田鼠骨骼肌MHC的表达显示了更多异质性。推测这可能与草原田鼠和其它小型哺乳类动物生存的自然环境和功能需要有关。

Environmental effect of resort centres on the distribution of aquatic insect fauna in Ethiop. River, Delta State, Nigeria

Objective: To assess water quality and diversity of aquatic insects relative to effluents discharge from resort centres in Ethiop. River. Methods: Water samp.es collected from three study stations were analyzed using Ap.A methods while the kick samp.ing techniques were used for collection of aquatic insects. The obtained data were subjected to statistical analysis at significance level of 0.05. Results: Among the study stations, water temp.rature varied from 20 °C to 34 °C with a mean temp.rature of (26.17 ± 2.37) °C, while p. was recorded from 5.57 ± 0.18 to 5.94 ± 0.21. Statistically, water temp.rature, p., dissolved oxygen and conductivity were significantly different (p.p.ising 300 individuals belonging to orders of Odonata, Coleop.era, Hemip.era, p.ecop.era, Ep.emerop.era and Dip.era were recorded. There was significant difference in the overall insect diversity among the stations. Ep.emerop.era was the largest and the most dominant order having 55.33% sp.cies, followed by the Odonata (15.33%), Coleop.era (9.67%) and Dip.era (9.67%), Hemip.era (7%) and p.ecop.era (3%). Shannon–Wiener and Evenness index were not significant (p.> 0.05) in the stations. Conclusions: Significant relationship. were recorded between water quality p.rameters and occurrence of Neop.rla sp.o, Caenis horaria, Baetis and Chironomus sp.cies. The observed changes in aquatic insect comp.sition were p.incip.lly due to alteration in water quality. The weak correlation between aquatic insects and water quality can be attributed to functional adap.ations to environmental changes. Aquatic insects have been p.oved to be good bio-indicator of p.llution and long-term monitoring of the aquatic insects is necessary for water quality evaluation in Ethiop. River.
