Association between axial length and toric intraocular lens rotation according to an online toric back-calculator

AIM: To assess the relationship.between axial length(AL) and intraocular lens(IOL) rotation among eyes receiving a toric IOL and subsequently entered into an online toric back-calculator ***: Retrosp.ctive analysis of data collected online via ***, a freely available online toric back-calculator where surgeons enter p.e-and p.stop.rative information to help.manage residual p.stop.rative *** records were deemed valid with entry of AL and IOL orientation between January 2017 and March *** was determined by a difference of ≥5° between p.e-op.rative intended IOL orientation and actual p.st-op.rative IOL *** and magnitude of rotation are p.esented with means and associated standard deviation(SD).Linear regression models of this association are ***: Records of 6752 eyes were included in the analysis, of which 74.8% were determined to have a rotated *** magnitude of rotation increased with each millimeter(mm) increase in AL with a mean rotation of 13.3°(SD: 12.8°) for eyes with AL 20-20.9 mm and a maximum mean rotation of 30.6°(SD: 30.3°) among eyes with AL 29-29.9 *** linear modeling demonstrated a significant association(p.0.0001) with a p.rameter estimate of 1.19(standard error: 0.159) and R;of ***: Analysis from an online database indicates that toric IOLs inserted into eyes with longer AL are more likely to rotate and to rotate more degrees from the target *** findings from this study are clinically relevant for surgeons imp.anting toric IOLs.

p.tassium titanate nanostructures were synthesised by hydrothermal treatment of TiO2 （p.5） in KOH and H2O2. As-p.oduced p.wders were characterised by scanning electron microscop., energy-disp.rsive X-ray sp.ctroscop., transmission electron microscop., X-ray diffraction, and nitrogen adsorp.ion-desorp.ion methods. Longitudinally-oriented-wire-like structures with a length up.to several micrometres and diameters ranging from 10 to 30 nm were obtained. Larger size fibrous nanowires resulting from the hydrotherrnal treatment showed high affinity in adsorbing crystal violet （CV）, which was mainly due to their high surface area. The p.otocatalytic bleaching of CV solution revealed that the wires are p.otoactive under ultraviolet light irradiation. Macrop.rous nanowires are considered as effective adsorbents of CV, cap.ble of p.otocatalvtic degradation, and they can be easily sep.rated from the solution by settling.

Understanding the catalysis of chromium trioxide added magnesium hydride for hydrogen storage and Li ion battery ap.lications

This study exp.ores how the chemical interaction between magnesium hydride(MgH_(2))and the additive CrO_(3) influences the hydrogen/lithium storage characteristics of MgH_(2).We have observed that a 5 wt.%CrO_(3) additive reduces the dehydrogenation activation energy of MgH_(2) by 68 kJ/mol and lowers the required dehydrogenation temp.rature by 80℃.CrO_(3) added MgH_(2) was also tested as an anode in an Li ion battery,and it is p.ssible to deliver over 90%of the total theoretical cap.city(2038 mAh/g).Evidence for imp.oved reversibility in the battery reaction is found only after the incorp.ration of additives with MgH_(2).In dep.h characterization study by X-ray diffraction(XRD)technique p.ovides convincing evidence that the CrO_(3) additive interacts with MgH_(2) and p.oduces Cr/MgO *** free energy analyses confirm the thermodynamic feasibility of conversion from MgH_(2)/CrO_(3) to MgO/Cr,which is well sup.orted by the identification of Cr(0)in the p.wder by X ray p.otoelectron sp.ctroscop.(Xp.)*** high resolution transmission electron microscop.(HRTEM)and energy disp.rsive sp.ctroscop.(EDS)we found evidence for the p.esence of 5 nm size Cr nanocrystals on the surface of MgO rock salt *** is also convincing ground to consider that MgO rock salt accommodates Cr in the *** observations sup.ort the argument that creation of active metal–metal dissolved rock salt oxide interface may be vital for imp.oving the reactivity of MgH_(2),both for the imp.oved storage of hydrogen and lithium.

Gestational weight gain among minority adolescents p.edicts term birth weight

Background In adolescents, there is limited evidence on the indep.ndent and additive effect of p.ep.egnancy body mass index (BMI) and gestational weight gain on infant birth weight. Data also show that this effect may vary by race. We sought to examine the imp.ct of maternal p.ep.egnancy BMI and gestational weight gain on birth weight and risk of large for ges-tational age (LGA) in term newborns of minority adolescent mothers. Methods This was a retrosp.ctive cohort study of 411 singleton live term infants born to mothers ≤ 18 years. Data were abstracted from electronic medical records. Results Gestational weight gain was related to infant birth weight (ρ = 0.36,p.p.= 0.61). On regression analysis, gestational weight gain, gestational age and Hisp.nic ethnicity were indep.ndent p.edic-tors of birth weight, controlling for maternal age, BMI, p.rity, tobacco/drug use and p.eeclamp.ia. The p.obability of having an LGA infant increased with weight gain [adjusted odds ratio (aOR) 1.14, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.07–1.21] but not with BMI. Mothers who gained weight in excess of 2009 Institute of Medicine (IOM) recommendations had a greater risk of having an LGA infant comp.red to those who gained within recommendations (aOR 5.7, 95% CI 1.6–19.5). Conclusions Minority adolescents with greater gestational weight gain had infants with higher birth weight and greater risk of LGA;BMI was not associated with either outcome. Further studies are needed to examine the ap.licability of the 2009 BMI-sp.cific IOM gestational weight gain recommendations to adolescents in minority p.p.lations.

Drawing test(LSD)-4].RESULTS Neurocognitive diagnoses were delirium(n=44),dementia(n=30),comorbid delirium-dementia(n=60)and no neurocognitive disorder(n=46).All conventional tests had sensitivity of>70%for delirium,with best overall accuracy for the Vigilance-B(78.3%),Vigilance-A(77.8%)and MBT(76.7%)*** sustained attention comp.nent of the Lighthouse test was the most distinguishing of delirium(sensitivity 84.6%;overall accuracy 75.6%).The LSD-4 had sensitivity of 74.0%and overall accuracy 74.4%for delirium *** tests allowed for enhanced sensitivity(>90%)and overall accuracy(≥75%)with the highest overall accuracy for the combination of MBT-Vigilance A and the combined Vigilance A and B tests(both 78.3%).When analyses were rep.ated for those with dementia,there were similar findings with the MBTVigilance A the most accurate overall combination(80.0%).Combining the Lighthouse-SA with the LSD-4,a fail in either test had sensitivity for delirium of 91.4 with overall accuracy of 74.4%.
