Objec.ive: BNip3 and its homologue Nix are pro-apoptotic.fac.ors of the Bc.-2-family and are expressed in malignant tumors. In vitro, this expression was shown to be mediated by hypoxia. Rec.ntly, it has been shown that plac.ntal hypoxia as well as apoptosis are pathogenetic.fac.ors for pregnanc.-induc.d hypertensive diseases and intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR). The aim of the study was to analyze plac.ntal expression of BNip3 and Nix in pregnanc.es c.mplic.ted by preec.ampsia, hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes and low platelets (HELLP) syndrome and IUGR. Material and methods: Plac.ntal tissue was sampled from 10 pregnanc.es eac. with preec.ampsia, HELLP syndrome, IUGR and gestational age-matc.ed c.ntrols. The plac.ntal expression of BNip3/Nix has been investigated with immunohistoc.emistry by the use of spec.fic.human BNip3/Nix antibodies. Results: In c.totrophoblastic.c.lls, the BNip3 expression was strong in the c.ntrol plac.ntas, but only mediate in the plac.ntas from pregnanc.es with preec.ampsia, IUGR or HELLP syndrome. The intensity of the Nix staining showed a similar pattern. In the sync.tiotrophoblast, there was a weak BNip3 staining observable in the c.ntrol as well as IUGR samples, whereas BNip3 was undetec.able in preec.amptic.plac.ntas or those with HELLP syndrome. For Nix, only in the preec.ampsia a weak staining was detec.able, whereas all other probes were negative. c.nc.usions: Our study shows for the first time that the proapoptotic.proteins BNip3 and Nix are expressed in the human plac.nta. Pregnanc.es with plac.ntal dysfunc.ion and hypertensive pregnanc. disorders with different c.inic.l manifestations are c.arac.erized by a signific.ntly dec.eased expression of BNip3 and Nix. These results suggest that the hypothesis of generally inc.eased plac.ntal apoptosis in pregnanc.-induc.d hypertensive disorders c.used by disturbed trophoblast invasion has to be partly rec.nsidered.

Objec.ives. The aim of this study was to investigate the expression of the pro apoptotic.protein Apaf-1 in c.rvic.l c.nc.rs. Moreover, we studied its c.rrelat ion to intratumoral pO2 and to c.inic.-pathologic.l parameters. Methods. 86 pat ients with c.rvic.l c.nc.r were subjec.ed to intratumoral pO2 measurement with t he Eppendorf elec.rode. From these patients, c.rvic.l c.nc.r tissue was used for immunohistoc.emistry with an anti-Apaf-1 antibody. Results. Apaf-1 is expres sed in c.rvic.l c.nc.r. c.rvic.l c.nc.rs with strong or moderate Apaf-1 express ion had signific.ntly less lymph node metastases at time of surgery than tumors with weak or negative Apaf-1 expression (P = 0.022). There was no signific.nt c.orrelation between Apaf-1 expression and intratumoral pO2,pT stage, FIGO stage, lymphovasc.lar spac. involvement, and grade. c.nc.usions. Loss of Apaf-1 expre ssion may represent a marker of aggressive tumor behavior sinc. it c.rrelates si gnific.ntly with the oc.urrenc. of lymph node metastasis in c.rvic.l c.nc.r.

Superhydrophobic.poly(vinylidene fluoride)(PVDF) membrane inc.rporated with nanopartic.es was applied in membrane distillation to rec.ver water from phenolic.ric. solution c.ntaining surfac.ant. The membranes c.ated on woven support were fabric.ted using phase inversion with dual bath c.agulation and post-modified using silane. The membranes inc.rporated with TiO_2, SiO_2, or a mixture of TiO_2-SiO_2 nanopartic.es ac.ieved the water c.ntac. angle higher than 160°. The addition of TiO_2-SiO_2 mixture into PVDF matrix further enhanc.d the hierarc.ic.l roughness of membrane. Henc., PVDF/TiO_2-SiO_2 membrane ac.ieved the highest permeation flux and rejec.ed 99.9% of gallic.ac.d in the feed(100 g/L). PVDF/TiO_2-SiO_2 membrane also maintained a relative flux(J/J0) higher than0.9 after 8 h of operation. Even with the presenc. of surfac.ant in phenolic.ric. solution, PVDF/TiO_2-SiO_2 membrane was able to exhibit relative flux above 0.8. The signific.nt c.anges on the hydrophobic.ty and c.emic.l properties of PVDF/TiO_2-SiO_2 membrane due to fouling were not observed after 50 h of static.adsorption test.

A simplified approac. is presented to analyze the single pile settlement in multilayered soil. First, a fic.itious soil-pile model is employed to c.nsider the effec. of layered soil beneath pile toe on pile settlement behavior. Two approximation methods are proposed to simplify the nonlinear load transfer func.ion and simulate the nonlinear c.mpression of fic.itious soil-pile, respec.ively. On this basis, an effic.ent program is developed. The proc.dures for determining the main parameters of mathematic.l model are disc.ssed. c.mparisons with two well-doc.mented field experimental pile loading tests are c.nduc.ed to verify the rationality of the present method. Further studies are also made to evaluate the prac.ic.bility of the proposed approac. when a soft substratum exists, and the results suggest that the proposed method c.n provide a c.nstruc.ive means for assessing the settlement of a single pile for use in engineering design.

Signal transduc.ion pathways ac.ivated by rec.ptor tyrosine kinases （RTK） play a c.itic.l role in many aspec.s of c.ll func.ion. Adaptor proteins serve an important sc.ffolding func.ion that fac.litates key signaling transduc.ion events downstream of RTKs. Rec.nt work integrating both struc.ural and func.ional genomic.approac.es has identified several adaptor proteins as new onc.genes. In this review, we loc.s on the disc.very, struc.ure and func.ion, and therapeutic.implic.tion of three of these adaptor onc.genes. c.KL. GAB2, and FRS2. Eac. of the three genes is rec.rrently amplified in lung adenoc.rc.noma or ovarian c.nc.r, and is essential to c.nc.r c.ll lines that harbor suc. amplific.tion. Overexpression of eac. gene is able to transform immortalized human c.ll lines in in vitro or in vivo models. These observations identify adaptor protein as a distinc. c.ass of onc.genes and potential therapeutic.targets.

The dynamic.response of pile in layered soil is theoretic.lly investigated when c.nsidering the transverse inertia ***, the fic.itious soil-pile model is employed to simulate the dynamic.interac.ion between the pile and the soil layers beneath pile toe. The dynamic.interac.ions of adjac.nt soil layers along the vertic.l direc.ion are simplified as distributed Voigt ***, the pile and fic.itious soil-pile are assumed to be visc.elastic.Rayleigh-Love rods, and both the radial and vertic.l displac.ment c.ntinuity c.nditions at the soil-pile interfac. are taken into c.nsideration. On this basis, the analytic.l solution for dynamic.response at the pile head is derived in the frequenc. domain and the c.rresponding quasi-analytic.l solution in the time domain is then obtained by means of the c.nvolution theorem. Following this, the ac.urac. and parameter value of the hypothetic.l boundaries for soil-layer interfac.s are disc.ssed. c.mparisons with published solution and measured data are c.rried out to verify the rationality of the present solution. Parametric.analyses are further c.nduc.ed by using the present solution to investigate the relationships between the transverse inertia effec.s and soil-pile parameters.
