Hyperparameter optimization of YOLOv8 for smoke and wildfire detection:Implications for agricultural and environmental safety

Advances in mass spectrometry(Ms)have enabled high-throughput analysis of proteomes in biological *** state-of-the-art Ms data analysis relies on database search algorithms to quantify proteins by identifying peptide–spectrum matches(PsMs),which convert mass spectra to peptide *** database search algorithms use distinct search strategies and thus may identify unique ***,no existing approaches can aggregate all user-specified database search algorithms with a guaranteed increase in the number of identified peptides and a control on the false discovery rate(FDR).To fill in this gap,we proposed a statistical framework,Aggregation of Peptide Identification Results(APIR),that is universally compatible with all database search ***,under an FDR threshold,APIR is guaranteed to identify at least as many,if not more,peptides as individual database search algorithms *** of APIR on a complex proteomics standard dataset showed that APIR outpowers individual database search algorithms and empirically controls the *** data studies showed that APIR can identify disease-related proteins and post-translational modifications missed by some individual database search *** APIR framework is easily extendable to aggregating discoveries made by multiple algorithms in other high-throughput biomedical data analysis,e.g.,differential gene expression analysis on RNA sequencing *** APIR R package is available at https://***/yiling0210/APIR.

superhydrophobic PVDF/TiO_2-siO_2 Membrane with Hierarchical Roughness in Membrane Distillation for Water Recovery from Phenolic Rich solution Containing surfactant

superhydrophobic poly(vinylidene fluoride)(PVDF) membrane incorporated with nanoparticles was applied in membrane distillation to recover water from phenolic rich solution containing surfactant. The membranes coated on woven support were fabricated using phase inversion with dual bath coagulation and post-modified using silane. The membranes incorporated with TiO_2, siO_2, or a mixture of TiO_2-siO_2 nanoparticles achieved the water contact angle higher than 160°. The addition of TiO_2-siO_2 mixture into PVDF matrix further enhanced the hierarchical roughness of membrane. Hence, PVDF/TiO_2-siO_2 membrane achieved the highest permeation flux and rejected 99.9% of gallic acid in the feed(100 g/L). PVDF/TiO_2-siO_2 membrane also maintained a relative flux(J/J0) higher than0.9 after 8 h of operation. Even with the presence of surfactant in phenolic rich solution, PVDF/TiO_2-siO_2 membrane was able to exhibit relative flux above 0.8. The significant changes on the hydrophobicity and chemical properties of PVDF/TiO_2-siO_2 membrane due to fouling were not observed after 50 h of static adsorption test.

Metcalfe＇s Law and Network Quality： An Extension of Zhang et al.

Zhang et al. exploited data on Facebook and Tencent to validate Metcalfe＇s law, which states that the aggregate value of a communications network is proportional to the square of the number of users. This note points out that the value of a social network may be driven not only by its size, but also by increases in the variety and quality of the services offered. I therefore extend Zhang et al.＇s approach by explicitly controlling for changes in network quality over time. For the case of Tencent, I also filter out revenues and costs that are unrelated to Tencent＇s core （social network） services. I find that these two extensions only strengthen Zhang et al.＇s conclusions： Metcalfe＇s law now outperforms the other laws even more clearlv.

Regulation of the sQUAMOsA PROMOTER-BINDING PROTEIN-LIKE genes/microRNA 156 Module by the Homeodomain Proteins PENNYWIsE and POUND-FOOLIsH in Arabidopsis

The morphology of inflorescences is regulated in part by the temporal and spatial events that regulate flower specification. In Arabidopsis, an endogenous flowering time pathway mediated by a subset of sQUAMOsA PROMOTER- BINDING PROTEIN-LIKE （sPL） transcription factors, including sPL3, sPL4, and sPL5, function to specify flowers by activating floral meristem identity genes. During shoot development, sPL3, sPL4, and sPL5 are post-transcriptionally regulated by microRNA156 （miR156）. The photoperiod regulated florigenic signal, FLOWERING LOCUs T （FT）, promotes floral induction, in part by activating sPL3, sPL4, and sPL5. In turn, these sPLs function in parallel with FT to specify flower meristems. Two related BELLl-like homeobox genes PENNYWIsE （PNY） and POUND-FOOLIsH （PNF） expressed in the shoot apical meristem are absolutely required for the specification of floral meristems. Genetic studies show that the floral specification function of FT depends upon PNYand PNF; however, the interplay between these homeodomain proteins and sPLs is not known. In this manuscript, we show that the photoperiodic floral induction of sPL3, sPL4, and sPL5 is dependent upon PNY and PNE Further, PNY and PNF also control sPL3, sPL4, and sPL5 expression by negatively regulating miR156. Lastly, ectopic expres- sion of sPL4 partially rescues the pny pnf non-flower-producing phenotype, while overexpression of sPL3 or sPL5 in pny pnf plants was unable to restore flower specification. These results suggest that：（1） sPL3, sPL4, and sPL5 function is dependent upon PNY and PNF, or （2） expression of multiple sPLs is required for floral specification in pny pnf plants.

Theorems of Erds-Ko-Rado type in geometrical settings

The original Erdos-Ko-Rado problem has inspired much research. It started as a study on sets of pairwise intersecting k-subsets in an n-set, then it gave rise to research on sets of pairwise non-trivially intersecting k-dimensional vector spaces in the vector space V（n, q） of dimension n over the finite field of order q, and then research on sets of pairwise non-trivially intersecting generators and planes in finite classical polar spaces. We summarize the main results on the Erdos-Ko-Rado problem in these three settings, mention the Erdss-Ko-Rado problem in other related settings, and mention open problems for future research.
