Determination of riding comfort on cycleways using a smartphone application

Well maintained cycleways will encourage more people to cycle,as the condition of cycleways is important for the safety,accessibility and riding comfort of *** that,only a few models used to describe the quality of service for cyclists take the surface condition into *** measuring methods are needed to enable reliable and effective assessment of surface conditions,and measurable performance criteria related to the needs of cyclists should be *** purpose of this study has been to test the reliability and validity of using accelerometers in smartphones to assess the riding comfort on cycleways.A smartphone application converting three-dimensional accelerometer measurements into a single indicator for cycleways has been used to assess road surfaces in two field studies,in Sweden and norway,*** studies assessed test sections of varying *** relate the measurements to subjective riding comfort assessments by cyclists,recruited cyclists collected quantitative data using the app,whilst also rating their perceived riding comfort by completing a *** were also related to standard road surface condition indicators,generated from a road surface tester equipped with 19 laser sensors:international roughness index(IrI),mega-and *** results show that it is possible to describe the unevenness of a cycleway using the technology present in smartphones.A software application can be used to collect and analyse data from the acceleration sensors in the phone,which can then be used to describe the riding comfort of *** is mainly the unevenness in the 50-1000 mm sizerange that create the greatest discomfort for cyclists,and intermittent vibrations are perceived as more uncomfortable than more evenly distributed ***,IrI is not a relevant measurement for describing the riding comfort of cyclists.

The impact of male overweight on semen quality and outcome of assisted reproduction

It is well-documented that male overweight and obesity causes endocrine disorders that might diminish the male reproductive capacity; however, reports have been conflicting regarding the influence of male body mass index （BMI） on semen quality and the outcome of assisted reproductive technology （ArT）. The aim of this study was to investigate whether increased male BMI affects sperm quality and the outcome of assisted reproduction in couples with an overweight or obese man and a non-obese partner. Data was prospectively collected from 612 infertile couples undergoing ArT at a Danish fertility center. Self-reported information on paternal height and weight were recorded and BMI was calculated. The men were divided into four BMI categories： underweight BMI 〈 20 kgm^-2, normal BMI 20-24.9 kg m^-2, overweight BMI 25-29.9 kgm^-2 and obese BMI 〉 30 kgm^-2. Conventional semen analysis was performed according to the World Health Organization guideline and sperm DnA integrity was analyzed by the Sperm Chromatin Structure Assay （SCSA）. no statistically significant effect of male BMI was seen on conventional semen parameters （sperm concentration, total sperm count, seminal volume and motility） or on SCSA-results. Furthermore, the outcome of ArT regarding fertilization rate, number of good quality embryos （GQE）, implantation and pregnancy outcome was not influenced by the increasing male BMIo

Estimation of a basal area growth model for individual trees in uneven-aged Caspian mixed species forests

The aim of this study was to estimate a basal area growth model for individual trees in uneven-aged Caspian forests.A survey was conducted in order to find a natural forest without any harvesting activities,a so called ＇untouched forest＇ and an area was selected from the Iranian Caspian *** sample plots in the same aspect and of the same forest type were *** each plot,total tree height,diameter at breast height,distance of neighbor trees and azimuth were *** trees were selected and drilled with increment borer to determine the increment *** analysis was used to estimate the growth *** show that,for individual trees,there is a significant nonlinear relationship between the annual basal area increment,as the dependent variable,and the basal *** results also show that the basal area of competing trees has a positive influence on *** the increment is higher with more competing neighboring trees is possibly because plots with higher volume per hectare and more competition,most likely also have higher site index or better soil or better site productivity than the plot with lower volume per hectare.

Worsening Clinical Outcome with Increasing number of So-Called Off-Label or Unapproved Indications for Use of Drug Eluting Stents

Objective: We explored the impact of increasing number of off-label patient and lesion character-istics on 5-year clinical outcome following implantation of first generation drug eluting stents. Furthermore we tried to assess if stent performance might be improved if the off-label character-istics present were taken into account to guide the stent brand selection. Design: A total of 2888 coronary lesions treated with first generation drug eluting stents were classified for eventual presence of 18 different off-label characteristics and correlated to the 5-year clinical outcome by multiple stepwise Cox regression analysis. results: The composite of cardiac death, myocardial infarction and target vessel revascularization (major adverse cardiac event, MACE) was 16.7% in cases with zero off-label characteristics and showed a stepwise increased rate up to 32.7% in cases with 5 off-label characteristics. The MACE rate for the sirolimus eluting stent appears to be 10% lower than the paclitaxel stent group and it may be further reduced by 10% - 18% if the off-label characteristics present in each case were taken into account to guide the stent brand selection. Conclusion: With increasing number of concomitantly appearing off-label characteristics there is a stepwise increase in MACE rate. The MACE rate may be reduced if the off-label characteristics were used to guide the stent brand selection.

A polarization-diversity loop with a silicon waveguide with a lateral p-i-n diode as a nonlinear medium is used to realize polarization insensitive four-wave mixing. Wavelength conversion of seven dual-polarization 16-quadrature amplitude modulation(QAM) signals at 16 GBd is demonstrated with an optical signal-to-noise ratio penalty below 0.7 dB. High-quality converted signals are generated thanks to the low polarization dependence(≤0.5 dB) and the high conversion efficiency(CE) achievable. The strong Kerr nonlinearity in silicon and the decrease of detrimental free-carrier absorption due to the reverse-biased p-i-n diode are key in ensuring high CE levels.

近几十年间,波罗的海的一些鱼种一直受繁殖成功率不良的影响。波罗的海的海行鲑鱼种群受到M74综合症的影响,M74是一种与后代体硫胺素(维生素B_1)浓度低有关的早期死亡症状。为了研究具有类似M74症状和死亡率的波罗的海海行鳟鱼是否也遭受到低硫胺素浓度的影响,特对它们进行了硫胺素分析。此外还分析了波罗的海鳕鱼组织内的硫胺素合量。本研究证实,受M74的波罗的海鲑鱼遭受到低硫胺素水平的危害,而且M74发生的起始时间可能与有眼点卵(eyed egg)中的硫胺素浓度有关。此外,生产出带有M74的后代的母鱼其肌肉和卵巢中的硫胺素浓度明显低于生产出健康后代的母鱼的相应浓度,这表明,M74可能是母体留传的硫胺素缺乏症。波罗的海海行鳟鱼的初步资料显示,具备类似M74症状(昏睡、表皮变黑和100%死亡)的黄卵囊鱼苗其平均硫胺素浓度很低 (1994年为0.14nmol/g,1998年为0.34nmol/g),相比之下,健康后代的平均硫胺素浓度要高得多(1994年为4.4nmol/g,1998年为3.9nmol/g)。这表明,波罗的海鳟鱼的某些家族组可能受到与硫胺素缺乏有关的生殖失调的影响。在产卵的波罗的海鳕鱼中,肝和卵巢的硫胺素浓度有很大差异,肝的硫胺素浓度变化范围为0.56～4.7nmol/g,卵巢的硫胺素浓度变化范围为3.8～30nmol/g。波罗的海鳕鱼是否也遭受到硫胺素缺乏引起的死亡现在还不得而知。
