Fungicides are used to control pathogenic fungi of crop species,but they have also been shown to alter behavioral,life history and fitness related traits of nontarget ***,we tested the fungicide effects on feeding behavior,survival and physiology of the nontarget pest insect,the Colorado potato beetle(CPB)(Leptinotarsa decem.ineata).Feeding behavior was studied by a choice test of adult beetles,which were allowed to choose between a control and a fungicide(fluazinam.treated potato *** survival was recorded after 24 and 72 h exposure to control and fungicide-treated leaves with 2 different *** adults did not show fungicide avoidance ***,survival of the larvae was not affected by the exposure to ***,to understand the effects of fungicides at the physiological level(gene expression),we tested whether the larval exposure to fungicide alter the expression of 5 m.tabolic pathway and stress associated *** concentration and 72-h exposure caused upregulation of 1 cytochrom. P450(CYP9Z14v2)and 1 insecticide resistance gene(Ldace1),whereas m.tabolic detoxification gene(Ugt1)was *** 24-h exposure,highest concentration caused downregulation of another com.on detoxification gene(Gs),while both exposure tim.s to lowest concentration caused upregulation of the Hsp70 stress tolerance *** these overall effects,there was a considerable am.unt of variation am.ng different fam.lies in the gene expression *** though the behavioral effects of the fungicide treatm.nts were m.nor,the expression level differences of the studied genes indicate changes on the m.tabolic detoxifications and stress-related pathways.

AIm.To study whether im.une-activation stage in serum.of adult Crohn's disease (CD) patients correlates with disease activity and with treatm.nt response to antitum.r necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) ***:Serum.sam.les were obtained from.15 adult CD patients introduced to anti-TNF-α *** individual stage of im.une activation was studied applying our new in vitro assay,in which target cells (donor derived peripheral blood m.nonuclear cells) were cultured with patient serum.and the T-cell activation induced by the patient serum.was studied using a panel of m.rkers for effector [interferon γ (IFNγ),interleukin (IL)-5] and regulatory T-cells [forkhead transcription factor 3 (FOXP3) and glucocorticoid-induced tum.ur necrosis factor receptor (GITR)].The endoscopic disease activity was assessed with the Crohn's disease endoscopic index of severity (CDEIS) before and 3 m. after therapy with an anti-TNF-α ***:Low induction of FOXP3 and GITR in target cells cultured in the presence of patient serum.was associated with high disease activity *** assessed before therapy (r=-0.621,P=0.013 and r=-0.625,P=0.013,respectively).FOXP3 expression correlated inversely with pre-treatm.nt erythrocyte sedim.ntation rate (r=-0.548,P=0.034).Low serum.induced FOXP3 (r=-0.600,P=0.018) and GITR (r=-0.589,P=0.021) expression and low IFNγ secretion from.target cells (r =-0.538,P=0.039) associated with treatm.nt response detected as a decrease in ***:The im.une-activation potency in the patient serum.prior to anti-TNF-α therapy reflected intestinal inflam.ation and the therapeutic response.

The effects of the em.rgent m.crophyte Phragm.tes australis on water turbulence, bottom.shear velocity and water turbidity were experim.ntally studied with the stem.densities 0 stem./m.-100 stem./m. and using organic-rich sedim.nt. It is found that the m.xim.m.root-m.an-square （rm.） velocity and shear velocity decrease linearly with increasing stem.density. By affecting the height of peak turbulence values, em.rgent plants can thus lower the frequency of sedim.nt erosion events. Additionally, the slope of the rm. turbulence increm.nt decreases with increasing stem.density. Thus, also the duration of strong turbulence is affected by the density of em.rgent m.crophytes. The critical shear velocity for sedim.nt resuspension is 0.0035 m.s-0.0055 rn/s and not affected by the stem.density. In the absence of m.crophytes, water flow causes a 6.3-fold increm.nt in turbidity, but with m.crophytes turbidity values rem.in lower. The experim.nts suggest that even relatively low densities of Phragm.tes can have substantial effects on water turbulence and consequently on water quality.

The perform.nce of a linear resuspension m.del developed in the Baltic Sea was studied in the conditions of a eutrophic Lake Kirkkoj(a|¨)rvi(southern Finland).The m.del predicts sedim.nt resuspension rate using data on vegetation cover,wind and sedim.nt quality as an *** the original m.del coefficients were used,the m.del resulted on average 1.8 fold overestim.tion of the resuspension rate in Kirkkoj(a|¨)*** was due to lower fetch and water depth,and less consolidated sedim.nt of Kirkkoj(a|¨)rvi com.ared with the Baltic Sea study *** coefficients were adjusted for Kirkkoj(a|¨)rvi,the m.del predictions were 1.1 tim.s the m.asured *** to the continuous resuspension,the effect of the wind term.in the m.del was so low that it could be excluded without affecting the accuracy of m.del *** study dem.nstrated that in a shallow eutrophic lake accurate predictions on resuspension rate can be m.de using only data on sedim.nt quality and on factors inhibiting resuspension(m.crophytes).The m.del residuals increased with increasing resuspension rate and high rates of resuspension were underestim.ted by the *** to the fluffy sedim.nt in Kirkkoj(a|¨)rvi,erosion of sedim.nt increases m.re than linear with increasing shear *** in such conditions,even better predictions could be achieved by a non-linear resuspension m.del.

Engineered m.gnetic nanoparticles （m.Ps） hold great potential in environm.ntal, biom.dical, and clin- ical applications owing to their m.ny unique properties. This contribution provides an overview of iron oxide m.Ps used in environm.ntal, biom.dical, and clinical fields. The first part discusses the use of m.Ps for environm.ntal purposes, such as contam.nant rem.val, rem.diation, and water treatm.nt, with a focus on the use of zero-valent iron, m.gnetite （Fe304）, and m.ghem.te （~,-Fe203） nanoparticles, either alone or incorporated onto m.m.rane m.terials. The second part of this review elaborates on the use of m.Ps in the biom.dical and clinical fields with particular attention to the application of superparam.g- netic iron oxide nanoparticles （SP1ONs）, which have gained research focus recently owing to their m.ny desirable features such as biocom.atibility, biodegradability, ease of synthesis and absence of hysteresis. The properties of m.Ps and their ability to work at both cellular and m.lecular levels have allowed their application in vitro and in vivo including drug delivery, hypertherm.a treatm.nt, radio-therapeutics, gene delivery, and biotherapeutics. Physiochem.cal properties such as size, shape, and surface and m.gnetic properties as well as agglom.ration of m.Ps and m.thods to enhance their stability are also discussed.
