there are many challenges facing the development of high-yielding,nutritious crops for future environments.One limiting factor is generation time,which prolongs research and plant breeding timelines.Recent advances in speed breeding protocols have dramatically reduced generation time for many short-day and long-day species by optimizing lightand temperature conditions during plant growth.However,winter crops with a vernalization requirement stillrequire upto 6-10weeks in low-temperature conditions before thetransition to reproductivedevelopment.Here,we tested a suite of environmental conditions and protocols to investigate whether the vernalization process can be accelerated.We identified a vernalization method consisting of exposing seeds at the soil surface to an extended photoperiod of 22 h day:2 h night at 10°C with transfer to speed breeding conditions that dramatically reduces generation time in both winter wheat(triticum aestivum)and winter barley(Hordeum vulgare).Implementation of the speedvernalization protocolfollowed byspeedbreedingallowed the completion ofuptofivegenerations per yearforwinter wheat or barley,whereas only two generations can be typically completed under standard vernalization and plant growth conditions.the speed vernalization protocol developed in this study has great potential to accelerate biological research and breeding outcomes for winter crops.

the superplastic behavior and associated deformation mechanisms of a fine-grained Mg-10.1 Li-0.8Al-0.6Zn alloy(LAZ1011)with a grain size of 3.2μm,primarily composed of the BCCβphase and a small amount of the HCPαphase,were examined in a temperature range of 473 K to 623 K.the microstructural refinement of this alloy was achieved by employing high-ratio differential speed rolling.the best superplasticity was achieved at 523 K and at strain rates of 10^(-4)-5×10^(-4)s^(-1),where tensile elongations of 550±600%were obtained.During the heating and holding stage of the tensile samples prior to tensile loading,a significant increase in grain size was observed at temperatures above 573 K.therefore,it was important to consider this effect when analyzing and understanding the superplastic deformation behavior and mechanisms.In the investigated strain rate range,the superplastic flow at low strain rates was governed by lattice diffusion-controlled grain boundary sliding,while at high strain rates,lattice diffusion-controlled dislocation climb creep was the rate-controlling deformation mechanism.It was concluded that solute drag creep is unlikely to occur.During the late stages of deformation at 523 K,it was observed that grain boundary sliding led to the agglomeration of theαphase,resulting in significant strain hardening.Deformation mechanism maps were constructed forβ-Mg-Li alloys in the form of 2D and 3D formats as a function of strain rate,stress,temperature,and grain size,using the constitutive equations for various deformation mechanisms derived based on the data of the current tests.

Dear Editor,Influenza A viruses(IAVs)are responsible for significant respiratory illnesses in humans and a broad range of animal species.Repeated outbreaks and the rapid spread of genetically and antigenically distinct IAVs represent a considerable challenge for swine production.Pigs are susceptible to avian and human IAV infections and are considered“mixing vessels”where human,avian,and swine IAVs can recombine and generate novel reassortant influenza viruses with pandemic potential(Vincent et al.,2014).

B cells have an essential immunoregulatory function,which is mediated by the secretion of IL-10 and tGFβand interaction with activated CD4^(+)t cells.this antibody-independent function of B cells contributes to ameliorating autoimmune diseases or infection-induced tissue damage.In this Cellular and Molecular Immunology issue,Fu et al.demonstrated that regulatory B(Breg)cells play a critical role in resolving Pseudomonas aeruginosa-induced pneumonia[1].

Smog chambers provide a potent approach to explore the secondary organic aerosol formation under varied conditions.this study describes the construction and characterization of a new smog chamber facility for studying the formation mechanisms of gas-phase products and secondary organic aerosol from the photooxidation of volatile organic compounds.the chamber is a 5.4 m^(3) Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene(FEP)teflon reactor with the potential to perform photooxidation experiments at controlled temperature and relative humidity.Detailed characterizations were conducted for evaluation of stability of environmental parameters,mixing time,background contamination,light intensity,and wall losses of gases and particles.the photolysis rate of NO_(2)(J_(NO2))ranged from(1.02-3.32)×10^(-3)sec^(-1),comparable to the average J_(NO2)in ambient environment.the wall loss rates for NO,NO_(2),and O_(3)were 0.47×10^(-4),0.37×10^(-4),and 1.17×10^(-4)min^(-1),while wall loss of toluene was obsoletely found in a 6 hr test.the particle number wall loss rates are(0.01-2.46)×10^(-3)min^(-1)for 40-350 nm with an average lifetime of more than one day.A series of toluene photooxidation experiments were carried out in absence of NO_xunder dry conditions.the results of the simulation experiments demonstrated that the chamber is well designed to simulate photolysis progress in the atmosphere.

Background Genome editing has been considered as powerful tool in agricultural fields.However,genome editing progress in cattle has not been fast as in other mammal species,for some disadvantages including long gestational periods,single pregnancy,and high raising cost.Furthermore,technically demanding methods such as microinjection and somatic cell nuclear transfer(SCNt)are needed for gene editing in cattle.In this point of view,electroporation in embryos has been risen as an alternative.Results First,editing efficiency of our electroporation methods were tested for embryos.Presence of mutation on embryo was confirmed by t7E1 assay.With first combination,mutation rates for MStN and PRNP were 57.6%±13.7%and 54.6%±13.5%,respectively.In case of MStN/BLG,mutation rates were 83.9%±23.6%for MStN,84.5%±18.0%for BLG.Afterwards,the double-KO embryos were transferred to surrogates and mutation rate was identified in resultant calves by targeted deep sequencing.thirteen recipients were transferred for MStN/PRNP,4 calves were delivered,and one calf underwent an induction for double KO.ten surrogates were given double-KO embryos for MStN/BLG,and four of the six calves that were born had mutations in both genes.Conclusions these data demonstrated that production of genome edited cattle via electroporation of RNP could be effectively applied.Finally,MStN and PRNP from beef cattle and MStN and BLG from dairy cattle have been born and they will be valuable resources for future precision breeding.

tissue regeneration requires structural holding and movement support using tissue-type-specific aids such as bone casts,skin bandages,and joint protectors.Currently,an unmet need exists in aiding breast fat regeneration as the breast moves following continuous body motion by exposing the breast fat to dynamic stresses.Here,the concept of elastic structural holding is applied to develop a shape-fitting moldable membrane for breast fat regeneration(“adipoconductive”)after surgical defects are made.the membrane has the following key characteristics:(a)It contains a panel of honeycomb structures,thereby efficiently handling motion stress through the entire membrane;(b)a strut is added into each honeycomb in a direction perpendicular to gravity,thereby suppressing the deformation and stress concentration upon lying and standing;and(c)thermo-responsive moldable elastomers are used to support structural holding by suppressing large deviations of movement that occur sporadically.the elastomer became moldable upon a temperature shift above t_(m).the structure can then be fixed as the temperature decreases.As a result,the membrane promotes adipogenesis by activating mechanotransduction in a fat miniature model with pre-adipocyte spheroids under continuous shaking in vitro and in a subcutaneous implant placed on the motion-prone back areas of rodents in vivo.

BACKGROUND Malignant triton tumors(Mtts)comprise a subgroup of malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors(MPNSts)that exhibits rhabdomyosarcomatous differen-tiation and follow an aggressive course.Mtts are primarily located along peripheral nerves.Cases of Mtts in the abdominal wall have not been reported.Mtt has a poorer prognosis than classic MPNSts,and accurate diagnosis necessitates a keen understanding of the clinical history and knowledge of its differential diagnosis intricacies.treatment for Mtts mirrors that for MPNSts and is predominantly surgical.CASE SUMMARY A 49-year-old woman presented with a subcutaneous mass in her lower abdo-minal wall and a pre-existing surgical scar that had grown slowly over 3-4 months before the consultation.She had previously undergone radical hysterectomy and concurrent chemo-radiotherapy for cervical cancer approximately 5 years prior to the consultation.Abdominal computed tomography(Ct)showed a 1.3 cm midline mass in the lower abdomen with infiltration into the rectus abdominis muscle.there was no sign of metastasis(t1N0M0).An incisional biopsy identified sporadic Mtt of the lower abdomen.A comprehensive surgical excision with a 3 cm margin inclusive of the peritoneum was executed.Subse-quently,the general surgeon utilized an approach akin to the open peritoneal onlay mesh technique.the patient underwent additional treatment with an excision shaped as a mini-abdominoplasty for the skin defect.No complications arose,and annual follow-up Cts did not show signs of recurrence or metastasis.CONCLUSION An abdominal Mtt was efficaciously treated with extensive excision and abdominal wall reconstruction,eliminating the need for postoperative radiotherapy.

Lignocellulosic nanofibers(LCNFs),implying lignin-containing cellulose fibers,maintain the prop-erties of both lignin and cellulose,which are hydrophobic and hydrophilic,respectively.the pres-ence of hydrophobic lignin in LCNFs is expected to be an economical and attractive option that can improve the thermal and mechanical properties of polymers.thus,this study was conducted to produce lignin-rich LCNFs from sugar-rich waste obtained from rice husks after acidic pretreat-ment.the LCNFs were produced from the lignin-rich solid fractions obtained after pretreatment and enzymatic hydrolysis,which were then incorporated as an additive into a chitosan-based film.the variations in lignin content in the range of approximately 50.6%-66.8%in differently obtained LCNFs gave significantly different optical strengths and mechanical properties.these controllable processes may allow for customized film formation.Additionally,the glucose-rich liquid fractions obtained after pretreatment and enzymatic hydrolysis were used as a substrate for ethanol fermentation to achieve total utilization of rice husk biomass waste.In conclusion,the lignin-rich biomass fraction holds promise as a suitable material for chitosan-LCNF film and has the potential to increase the economic feasibility of the biomaterial industry.
