Synergistically coupling of Ni–Fe LDH arrays with hollow co–Mo sulfide nanotriangles for highly efficient overall water splitting

Developing bifunctional catalysts that can catalyze both oxygen evolution reaction(OER)and hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)is pivotal to commercializing large-scale water ***,a novel hollow nanotriangle composed of NiFe LDH-coMoS_(x) heterojunction(H-cMSx@NiFe LDH)is proposed as a highly efficient bifunctional electrocatalyst for both OER and *** fabricate a heterojunction system,ultra-thin nickel–iron layered double hydroxide(NiFe LDH)nanosheets are uniformly electrodeposited onto a metal–organic framework-derived hollow coMoS_(x) *** strong coupling of coMoS_(x) and NiFe LDH catalysts forms the intimate heterojunction interfaces to facilitate interfacial charge transfer,which is favorable to enhance the bifunctional catalytic ***,the large void of coMoS_(x) nanotriangles and interconnected ultra-thin NiFe LDH nanosheets result in good electrolyte penetration and gas ***,the as-prepared H-cMSx@NiFe LDH on nickel foam(NF)exhibits an impressive catalytic activity and durability for OER and HER activities,delivering a current density of 100 mA·cm^(−2) at the small overpotentials of 214 and 299 mV in OER and HER,***,H-cMSx@NiFe LDH/NF proves to be an effective electrode for an alkaline electrolyzer,as a voltage of only 1.99 V is enough to achieve a current density voltage of only 1.99 V is enough to achieve a current density of 400 mA·cm^(−2) with no degradation in performance over 50 h.

Removal of atmospheric methane by soil ecosystems and its controlling variables from microbial to global scales

Methane (cH_(4)), a potent greenhouse gas, plays a pivotal role in the dynamics of climate change. While cH_(4) emissions have been widely investigated,biological removal of cH_(4) by upland soils has been less explored. Understanding the mechanisms and factors affecting cH_(4) oxidation in soils is of paramount importance for devising successful mitigation strategies. This perspective paper discusses different types of aerobic methanotrophs and their activities under varying environmental conditions, highlighting the significant contribution of soil ecosystems to global cH_(4) sinks. We emphasize the need for in-depth research on variables controlling cH_(4) sinks on different spatiotemporal scales and the exploration of previously unidentified cH_(4) sinks, such as deserts and areas of glacier retreat.

Meta Shack–Hartmannwavefront sensor with large sampling density and large angular field of view:phase imaging of complex objects

Shack–Hartmann wavefront sensors measure the local slopes of an incoming wavefront based on the displacement of focal spots created by a lenslet array,serving as key components for adaptive optics for astronomical and biomedical ***,the challenges in increasing the density and the curvature of the lenslet have limited the use of such wavefront sensors in characterizing slowly varying wavefront ***,we develop a metasurfaceenhanced Shack–Hartmann wavefront sensor(meta SHWFS)to break this limit,considering the interplay between the lenslet parameters and the performance of *** experimentally validate the meta SHWFS with a sampling density of 5963 permm2 and a maximum acceptance angle of 8°which outperforms the traditional SFWFS by an order of ***,to the best of our knowledge,we demonstrate the first use of a wavefront sensing scheme in single-shot phase imaging of highly complex patterns,including biological tissue *** proposed approach opens up new opportunities in incorporating exceptional light manipulation capabilities of the metasurface platform in complex wavefront characterization.

Glycosylation is a process that involves the addition of sugar moieties or glycans to different types of molecules,including proteins,lipids,and nucleic *** these,protein glycosylation is one of the most prevalent forms of post-translational modification,playing a crucial role in biological *** more than ten monosaccharides identified within mammalian brain cells and more than 1×1012 possible combinations,the heterogeneity of glycosylation is extensive(conroy et al.,2021).The diversity of glycans and the complexity of their structures allow for a wide range of protein functions.N-glycans are one of the most abundant forms of glycans and are involved in various cellular functions.N-glycans can be added to proteins at specific sequons,Asn-X-Ser/Thr,and are classified into three main types in mature glycoproteins:high mannose,complex,and *** mannose N-glycans consist of 5-9 mannose residues linked to a chitobiose core and undergo processing into complex or hybrid forms in the Golgi apparatus(Varki et al.,2017).complex N-glycans are more diverse and contain various branched structures such as antennae with fucose,galactose,and sialic acid *** N-glycans contain one or more complex branches in conjunction with an oligomannose branch(Fisher and Ungar,2016).Understanding the specific functions of these different types of N-glycans in protein regulation,folding,and function is an active area of research in the life sciences,including glycobiology.
