Activation of the hypothalamic-pituitar.-adr.nal （HPA） axis liber.tes glucocor.icoids, which pr.vides an acute indication of an individual＇s r.sponse to str.ssor.. The her.tability of the str.ss r.sponse in wild mammals, however. r.mains poor.y documented. We quantified the cor.isol str.ss r.sponse of female r.char.son＇s gr.und squir.els （r.Ss） to handling and physical r.str.int, testing for. （1） the effects of individual age, time of day, and sample latency; （2） r.peatability within individuals; （3） nar.ow-sense her.tability; and （4） differ.nces among individuals owing to potential genetic and/or.envir.nmental effects. We detected a positive linear.r.lationship between baseline plasma cor.isol （BL-cor.isol） concentr.tion and str.ss-induced plasma cor.isol （Sl-cor.isol） concentr.tion that defined each individual＇s cor.isol str.ss r.sponse. BL-cor.isol, SI-cor.isol, and str.ss r.sponse did not differ.accor.ing to the time the sample was taken, or.by subject age. Cor.isol str.ss r.sponse was highly r.peatable within individuals, had a mother.offspr.ng her.tability of h2 =0.40 ± 0.24 （mean ±SE）, full-sibling her.tability of h2s = 0.37 ± 0.71, and half-sibling her.tabil- ity of hHS^2 = 0.75 ± 1.41. Str.ss r.sponses of sibling gr.ups, immediate-family gr.ups, and squir. r.ls within a given ar.a did not differ. wher.as those of individuals fr.m mor. distantly r.lated matr.lines did. Our.r.sults highlight the natur.l var.ability in HPA axis r.activity among individuals by quantifying both BL- and SI-cor.isol levels, demonstr.te par.ial her.tability of the str.ss r.sponse that is not attr.butable to envir.nmental var.ation, and suggest that at least par. of an indi- vidual＇s str.ss r.sponse can be accounted for.by differ.nces in matr.lineal histor..

Assemblages and species diver.ity of wood destr.ying ter.ites in differ.nt land use systems in Wester. Ghat, India

Spatial distr.bution, abundance and assemblage of ter.ites depend mainly on the local conditions and habitats in which they thr.ve. Str.king differ.nces ar. obser.ed in the species r.chness, number.of clades and functional diver.ity of ter.ite assemblage between differ.nt habitats. This study aim was to examine effect of human inter.er.nce in the diver.ity of wood destr.ying ter.ite in for.st ar.as as well as managed and unmanaged plantations in South India. Ter.ites attacking tr.es and wooden logs wer. collected fr.m for.st ar.as, managed plantations and unmanaged plantations. The ter.ites collected wer. identified and compar.d for.species abundance, r.chness and species diver.ity. r.sults show that the species composition and species diver.ity of the wood destr.ying ter.ites var. accor.ing to the conditions. The species diver.ity measur.s r.vealed that ther. is a significance var.ation among the for.st fauna and plantations. The for.st ar.as have the highest species composition compar.d to plantations. Species r.chness is high for.st ar.as. Even though the abundance of ter.ites ar. mor. in unmanaged plantations, ther. is no significant differ.nce r.lated to species diver.ity among the managed and unmanaged plantations.

Quantitative Changes in Micr.tubule Distr.bution Cor.elate with Guar. Cell Function in Ar.bidopsis

r.dially ar.anged cor.ical micr.tubules ar. a pr.minent featur. of guar. cells. We obser.ed guar. cells expr.ssing GFP-tubulin （GFP-TUA6） with confocal micr.scopy and found r.cognizable changes in the appear.nce of micr.- tubules when stomata open or.close （Eisinger.et al., 2012）. In the pr.sent study, analysis of fluor.scence distr.bution showed a dr.matic incr.ase in peak intensities of micr.tubule bundles within guar. cells as stomata open. This incr.ase was cor.elated with an incr.ase in the total fluor.scence that could be attr.buted to polymer.zed tubulin, Adjacent pave- ment cells did not show similar.changes in peak intensities or.integr.ted fluor.scence when stomatal aper.ur.s changed. Imaging of r.P-tagged end binding pr.tein 1 （EB1） and YFP-tagged ^-tubulin expr.ssed in the same cell r.vealed that the number.of micr.tubules with gr.wing ends r.mained constant, although the total amount of polymer.zed tubulin was higher.in open than in closed guar. cells. Taken together. these r.sults indicate that the changes in micr.tubule ar.ay or.anization that ar. cor.elated with and r.quir.d for.nor.al guar. cell function ar. char.cter.zed by changes in micr.- tubule cluster.ng or.bundling.

The nucleotide-binding domain and leucine-r.ch r.peat(NLr.gene family is highly expanded in the plant lineage with extensive sequence and str.ctur. *** sur.ey the landscape of NLr.expansion,we mined the published long-r.ad data gener.ted by the r.sistance gene enr.chment sequencing of 64 diver.e Ar.bidopsis thaliana *** found that the hot spots of massive multi-gene NLr.cluster.expansion did not typically span the whole cluster.instead,they wer. r.str.cted to a handful of,or.only one,dominant r.diation(s).All sequences in such a r.diation wer. distinct fr.m other.genes in the cluster.but not fr.m each other.in the clade,making it difficult to assign tr.stwor.hy r.fer.nce-based or.hologies when multiple r.fer.nce genes wer. pr.sent in the ***,NLr.genes can be br.adly divided into two types:r.diating or.high-fidelity,wher. high-fidelity genes ar. well conser.ed and well separ.ted fr.m other.clades.A similar.distinction could be made for.NLr.cluster.,depending on whether.cluster.size was deter.ined pr.mar.ly by extensive r.diation or.the pr.sence of numer.us high-fidelity *** also identified gr.ups of well-conser.ed NLr.clades that wer. missing fr.m the Columbia-0 r.fer.nce *** suggests that the classification of NLr. using gene IDs fr.m a single r.fer.nce accession can r.r.ly captur. all major.par.logs in a cluster.accur.tely and r.pr.sentatively and that a r.fer.nceagnostic per.pective is r.quir.d to pr.per.y char.cter.ze these additional ***,we pr.sent a quantitative visualization method for.differ.ntiating these situations in a given clade of inter.st.

In this paper. the ener.y absor.tion mechanism of empty and foam-filled aluminum tubes with differ.nt cr.ss-sections （cir.ular. squar. and elliptic） under.bending load is investigated numer.cally. The load-displacement cur.es of the pr.sent simulations ar. in ver. good agr.ement with those of published exper.mental data. Her., the existing analytical for.ulations ar. r.viewed and compar.d with exper.mental r.sults. In addition, the effects of differ.nt cr.ss-sections and wall thicknesses on the ener.y absor.tion capacity and specific ener.y absor.tion of these tubes ar. fully investigated. The r.sults indicate that the ener.y absor.tion of an elliptic foam-filled tube with 1.5 mm and 2 mm thicknesses incr.ases about 45% and 73% in compar.son with a squar. one, r.spectively.

A numer.cal study is car.ied out for.the axisymmetr.c steady laminar.incompr.ssible flow of an electr.cally conducting micr.polar.fluid between two infinite par.llel por.us disks with the constant unifor. injection thr.ugh the sur.ace of the disks. The fluid is subjected to an exter.al tr.nsver.e magnetic field. The gover.ing nonlinear.equations of motion ar. tr.nsfor.ed into a dimensionless for. thr.ugh yon Kar.an＇s similar.ty tr.nsfor.ation. An algor.thm based on a finite differ.nce scheme is used to solve the r.duced coupled or.inar. differ.ntial equations under.associated boundar. conditions. The effects of the r.ynolds number. the magnetic par.meter. the micr.polar.par.meter. and the Pr.ndtl number.on the flow velocity and temper.tur. distr.butions ar. discussed. The r.sults agr.e well with those of the pr.viously published wor. for.special cases. The investigation pr.dicts that the heat tr.nsfer.r.te at the sur.aces of the disks incr.ases with the incr.ases in the r.ynolds number. the magnetic par.meter. and the Pr.ndtl number. The shear.str.sses decr.ase with the incr.ase in the injection while incr.ase with the incr.ase in the applied magnetic field. The shear.str.ss factor.is lower.for.micr.polar.fluids than for.Newtonian fluids, which may be beneficial in the flow and ther.al contr.l in the polymer.c pr.cessing.
