Effect of storage time on the characteristics of corn and efficiency of its utilization in broiler chickens

Corn is one of the staple food and feed ingredients in China, therefore its storage is of particular importance. Corn is typically stored for 2 or more years in national barns before it is sold as a food or feed ingredient. However, the effects of stored corn in national barns on the animal performance and nutrient utilization have not been investigated thus far. This study attempted to determine the effects of storage time on the chemical and physical characteristics of corn and its nutritional value, broiler growth performance, and meat quality. Corn grains used in the present study were stored for 4 different periods,from 2 to 5 yr, under the same conditions in a building at the Beijing National Grain Storage Facility. A total of 240 birds in Exp. 1 and 90 birds in Exp. 2 were used to compare the effects of storage time on the utilization of nutrients of corn, the performance, and meat quality of broilers. The content of starch, crude protein, amino acids, fatty acids, and test weight generally decreased with increasing storage time. Corn stored for over 4 yr showed decreased catalase(CAT) and peroxidase(POD) activities and increased fat acidity. Body weight gain(BWG) and European production index(EPi) of broilers from 0 to 3 wk tended to decrease linearly with storage time(0.05 i of broilers from 4 to 6 wk decreased quadratically(P ion ratio(FCR) increased with storage time(P i of broilers positively correlated with CAT activity(P ively correlated with fat acidity(P ip loss of breast muscle increased linearly with corn storage time(P inearly with corn storage time. Drip loss had a strong negative correlation with POD(P ignificant differences of the storage length on metabolizable energy(ME), digestibility of crude protein, and starch(P > 0.05). Microstructural Characteristics of Underwater Shock Consolidated Aluminum Composites

Metal matrix composites (MMCs) offer extra strength and high temperature capabilities in comparison with unrein-forced metals. Aluminum composites possess higher stiffness, strength, fatigue properties and low weight advantages. Carbon fiber reinforced Al composites (Al-Cf) and silicon carbide particulate reinforced Al composites (Ai-SiCp) were shock densified using axisymmetric assemblies for underwater explosions. Unidirectional planar shock waves were applied to obtain uniform consolidation of the composites. The energy generator was a high explosive of 6.9 km/s detonation velocity. irregular morphological powders of Al were the base material. The reinforcement ratio was 15 Vol. pet for Al-Cf composites and 30 Vol. pet for Ai-SiCp composites. The microstructural and the strength characteristics of the shock consolidated Al composites are reported.

Performance Analyses for a Cyclone Type Filter

Flow characteristics inside a cyclone filter were investigated by the use of computational fluid dynamics(CFD). For computations, SST model was adopted. Parametric study was carried out considering the filtering performance. Revolution speeds were changed from 100 to 550 with 50 increments. A skirt is the driving source for cyclone operation. The influence of several design factors, such as the skirt length, the skirt gap and the return length to filtering performance was investigated under the particle diameter 100μm of debris material(Al, s.g.=2.7). The filtering performance was also investigated with the skirt length 28 mm changing the debris diameters from 1μm to 50μm. The flow rate of the working fluid was maintained at 0.55kg/s. it has been verified that the most influential factors to the filtering efficiencies was the skirt gap between the cyclone generator and the cyclone vessel.

HR-TEM and FiB-SEM characterization of formation of eutectic-like structure from amorphous GdAlO_3-Al_2O_3 system

The crystallization process of the eutectic composition of GdAlO_3-Al_2O_3 from the amorphous phase prepared by rapid-quenching of melt that leads to the formation of a cantaloupe skin-like microstructure was investigated using focused ion-beam scanning electron microscopy (FiB-SEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM).The amorphous films were heat-treated at temperatures between 1000 °C and 1500 °C for up to 30min to form the eutectic phases of GdAlO_3 and Al_2O_*** GdAlO_3 and Al_2O_3 crystal phases that formed from the amorphous phase were identified by FiB-SEM and *** components began to crystallize and grow from the amorphous phase separately at different *** formation process of these crystal phases was different from that of the ordinary eutectic microstructure solidified from the GdAlO_3-Al_2O_3 ***,the observed structure is termed "eutectic-like" for *** microstructures formed from the amorphous phases at sufficiently high temperatures consisted of ultra-fine microstructures of individually crystallized components and were similar to ordinary eutectic *** heat-treating the amorphous films at 1500 °C for either 2 min,8min or 30min,the ultra-fine components of GdAlO_3 and Al_2O_3 were found to crystallize following a eutectic-like stage after 8min of heat treatment.

DiSLOCATiON DiSSOCiATiONS AND FAULTENERGiES iN Ni_3Al ALLOYS DOPED WiTH PALLADiUM

Dislocation structures in polycrystalline Ni 3Al alloy doped with palladium deformed at room temperature have been investigated by transmission electron microscopy. The structure consists mainly of dislocations dissociated into a /2〈011〉 super partials bounding an anti phase boundary (APB). Dislocations dissociated into a /3〈112〉 super Shockley partials bounding a superlattice intrinsic stacking fault (SiSF) are also common debris. The majority of the SiSFs are truncated loops, i.e. the partials bounding the SiSF are of similar Burgers vector. These faulted loops are generated from APB coupled dislocations, according to a mechanism for formation of SiSFs proposed by Suzuki et al , and recently modified by chiba et al . The APB energies for {111} and {010} slip planes are measured to be 144±20 mJ/m 2 and 102±11 mJ/m 2 respectively, and the SiSF energy has been estimated to be 12 mJ/m 2 in this alloy. it is concluded that the dislocation structure in Ni 74.5 Pd 2Al 23.5 alloy deformed at room temperature is similar to that in binary Ni 3Al, and the difference in fault energies between these two alloys is small. Thus, it seems unlikely that the enhancement of ductility of Ni 74.5 Pd 2Al 23.5 results from only such a small decrease of the ordering energy of the alloy. SiSF bounding dislocations also have no apparent influence on the ductilization of Ni 74.5 Pd 2Al 23.5 alloy.

A Method for Determining <i>Batillaria attramentaria</i>Distribution Using Aerial Balloon Photography and a Vegetation index Camera: Demonstration at the Yatsu Tidal Flat, chiba Prefecture

Located in chiba Prefecture, the Yatsu Tidal Flat is an important stopover for birds migrating between cold regions such as Siberia and warm regions such as Southeast Asia and Australia. its importance led to its selection in 1993 as the first tidal flat in Japan to be registered under the Convention on Wetlands of international importance especially as Waterfowl Habitat (the Ramsar Convention). However, the Yatsu Tidal Flat has in more recent years witnessed blooms of Ulva spp. (sea lettuce) and an increase in exotic species such as Batillaria attramentaria (Japanese mud snail) and Mercenaria mercenaria (hard clam), fueling concerns that the increasing spatial domination of the tidal flat by such species and competition with other species for food may drive a decline in the habitat’s self-cleaning capabilities. For this study, we focused on Batillaria attramentaria, which is now so widely distributed in the Yatsu Tidal Flat as to preclude reliable monitoring via aerial photographs or satellite imagery. Accordingly, we tested the utility of a simplified method for obtaining data on the distribution of Batillaria attramentaria by using aerial balloon photography and a vegetation index camera capable of generating NDVi data. Our results show that under certain conditions, this method can indeed be used to determine Batillaria attramentaria distribution.

【目的】探讨醒斑银弄蝶Carterocephalus alcina Evans,1939与其近似种的关系。【方法】广泛采集醒斑银弄蝶及其近似种样本,基于形态特征、COi条形码及地理分布进行关系分析。【结果】黄斑银弄蝶*** lee,1962应是醒斑银弄蝶***的个体变异,故为其新异名;产自北京的2个银弄蝶标本与其近似种间的最小平均遗传距离为3.9%,在系统树上独立成支,前翅中室基部和后翅前缘中部有斑且后翅M1-2室斑延伸至外缘,为其独有;醒斑银弄蝶、北京支系、银弄蝶***和黄翅银弄蝶***呈高度支持的单系支。【结论】黄斑银弄蝶是醒斑银弄蝶的新异名;产自北京的近似于醒斑银弄蝶的种群是一个新种,即长斑银弄蝶Carterocephalus longimaculatus Hou,Fan&Li ***.。

背景与目的:胃癌是亚太地区的主要健康负担之一,但对其预防策略尚缺乏共识。本共识会议旨在评价预防胃癌的策略。方法:多学科专家组应用德尔菲(Delphi)法制订共识条文,提呈相关数据,对证据等级、推荐强度以及共识水平予以分级。结果:幽门螺杆菌(***)感染是非贲门胃腺癌必要但非充分的致病因子。盐的高摄入与胃癌强烈相关。新鲜果蔬对胃癌具有预防作用,但维生素和其他饮食补充并不能预防胃癌。***感染中的宿主-细菌相互作用导致不同类型的胃炎和胃酸分泌,从而决定疾病结局。胃癌阳性家族史是一个重要的危险因素。低血清胃蛋白酶原反映胃萎缩程度,可作为检出胃癌高危人群的标志物。***筛查和治疗被推荐作为减少高危人群胃癌危险性的一种策略,该策略在萎缩性胃炎发生前实施最为有效,但并不排除对胃癌高危人群的内镜监测。对胃癌低危人群不推荐行***筛查。***感染的一线治疗应遵循国家治疗指南。结论:高危人群中***筛查和根除策略可能会减少胃癌的发生率,本共识根据现有证据予以推荐。

Evaluation of Patient-Specific Quality Assurance for Carbon ion Radiotherapy Using Full Energy Scanning Method at QST Hospital

Purpose: Patient-specific QA (PSQA) measurements for carbon ion radiotherapy (CiRT) are critical components of processes designed to identify discrepancies between calculated and delivered doses. We report the results of PSQA conducted at the QST Hospital during the period from September 2017 to March 2018. Methods: We analyzed PSQA results for 1448 fields for 10 disease sites with various target volumes, target depths and number of energy layers. For the PSQA, all the planned beams were recalculated on a water phantom with treatment planning software. The recalculated dose distributions were compared with the measured distributions using a 2D ionization chamber array at three depths, including 95% of the area of the prescription dose. These recalculated dose distributions were evaluated using the 3%/3mm gamma index with a passing threshold of 90%. Results: The passing rates for prostate, head and neck, and bone and soft tissue were 96.8%, 99.3%, and 91.7%, respectively. Additionally, 94.7% of lung plans with low energy beams passed. Overall, the CiRT in the QST Hospital reached a high passing rate of more than 95%. Although the remaining 5% failed to pass, there was no dependence between measurement depth and disease sites in these failures. Conclusion: Using PSQA measurements, we confirmed consistency between the planned and delivered doses for CiRT using the full energy scanning method.
