The effect of the CHAMP intervention on fundamental motor skills and outdoor physical activity in preschoolers

Purpose: Physical activity(PA) and fundamental motor skills are important components of current and future trajectories of health in young children. This study examined the effects of a 5-week motor skill intervention on preschoolers' motor skill competence and their PA behaviors while participating in the motor skill intervention or outdoor free play(recess).Methods: A total of 102 preschoolers served as participants and were part of a motor skill intervention group(n = 64) or a control/outdoor free play group(n = 38). Children's motor skills were assessed before and after the intervention using the Test of Gross Motor Development-3 rd edition. PA during the motor skill intervention and outdoor free play was assessed using accelerometers both immediately before the start(baseline, Week 0 or Week 1) and end(late, Week 5 or Week 6) of the ***: All children significantly improved their motor skills from baseline to late assessment(p en in the motor skill intervention demonstrated greater rates of change(p ed higher on all motor skills at the late assessment compared with the control group(p ere was no effect of group(control vs. intervention), but there was a significant effect of sex on children's PA during outdoor free play at baseline(p ere was no effect of group on PA during days with the movement program(intervention vs. outdoor free play) at either time point, but boys were more active than girls at the late assessment(p en in the intervention engaged in more PA while participating in the intervention toward the end of the intervention than at the ***: The 5-week motor skill intervention was effective at improving preschoolers' motor skills and rates of change in motor skills were higher for children who completed the intervention compared with children in the control group. Body mass index and blood pressure in rural, low socioeconomic children

Background: Young children who are overweight and obese may be at a greater risk of hypertension, and those from rural and low socio-economic areas may also exhibit a prevalence of metabolic dysfunction and cardiovascular risk. This study evaluated the relationship of body mass index (BMI) and blood pressure in children from a rural, low socioeconomic community in Alabama. Methods: This cross-sectional study was comprised of young children (aged 5-9 years). BMI (normal, overweight, obese) was assessed using standardized procedures and classified based on the Centers for Disease Control Growth Charts. Blood pressure status (normal, pre-hypertension, hypertension;stage 1 and stage 2) was defined by percentiles of the 2nd and 3rd reading on a single occasion. A MANOVA was used to determine the relationship of BMI to mean blood pressure (i.e., systolic and diastolic). Results: Of the 134 participants (78% non-Hispanic Black), 10 (7.5%) were overweight and 25 (18.7%) were obese. Pre-hypertension and hypertension were detected in 9 (6.7%) and 20 (14.9%) children, respectively. Results indicate that mean systolic and diastolic blood pressure significantly increased with BMI, P P = 0.028. Conclusion: Hypertension was strongly associated with an unhealthy BMI in these young children from a rural and low-socio-economic community. The findings raise concerns about the growing epidemic of childhood obesity and hypertension in young children and warrant the need to investigate lifestyle behavioral interventions on BMI and blood pressure.

A GPU-Accelerated Mixed-Precision WeNO Method for extremal Black Hole and Gravitational Wave Physics Computations

We develop and use a novel mixed-precision weighted essentially non-oscillatory(WeNO)method for solving the Teukolsky equation,which arises when modeling perturbations of Kerr black *** show that WeNO methods outperform higher-order finite-difference methods,standard in the discretization of the Teukolsky equation,due to the need to add dissipation for stability purposes in the *** particular,as the WeNO scheme uses no additional dissipation,it is well suited for scenarios requiring long-time evolution such as the study of price tails and gravitational wave emission from extreme mass ratio *** the mixed-precision approach,the expensive computation of the WeNO weights is performed in reduced floating-point precision that results in a significant speedup factor of≈*** addition,we use state-of-the-art Nvidia general-purpose graphics processing units and cluster parallelism to further accelerate the WeNO *** optimized WeNO solver can be used to quickly generate accurate results of significance in the field of black hole and gravitational wave *** apply our solver to study the behavior of the Aretakis charge—a conserved quantity,that if detected by a gravitational wave observatory like LIGO/Virgo would prove the existence of extremal black holes.

Longevity and stay ability are parameters in any breeding programme. The Overstaying of any animal on a farm has got negative effects on the farmer. Short stay also means early exit of good animals that could have been used for a longer time and more productive. The intention of this review paper is to emphasize the importance of models that an upcoming breeding program can use without affecting the quality of the herd. In this paper, longevity is taken purely on the performance measure. The functional and type traits of longevity should be studied further before all models are put into play. But the case of closed breeding programmes, performance traits are easily measurable because many animals will exit the herd as they have been sold to farmers hence many functional straits will be expressed outside the herd. Genetic evaluation of the Kenyan Sahiwal should account for inbreeding. This study has also provided genetic and phenotypic parameters to enable the inclusion of longevity in the breeding objective for the Sahiwal cattle improvement proe="font-family:Verdana;">gramme.

Performability in of Plays in Translation

Drama translation is fundamentally different from the translation of other genres, such as proses, fictions, and poeaT, and in the field of translating dramas, translated texts for the literary system and the texts confined to the theatrical system are two separate kinds of drama translation （Aaltonen, 2000）. ＂And a play conceived of as a literary text will be very different from a play devised by a group of actors, possibly working with a jobbing writer＂（Bassnett, 2011： 100）. With regard to this, readability and performability can serve as two distinguished features of the two kinds of translation respectively, and performability is undeniably one of the most important issues of the play for stage. This essay will give an objective introduction of the duality of drama, i.e. readability and perfomability. Then, an elaborated discussion of performability will be addressed including what is performability and how to secure performability in the play.

Low Carbohydrate Diets in Type 2 Diabetes—A Translational Study

Although intensive interventions with low carbohydrate diets compared with higher carbohydrate diets can reduce HbA1c in people with type 2 diabetes, it is not clear if simple advice to make modest reductions in carbohydrate is effective in clinical practice. Forty-three people with type 2 diabetes and poor control (HbA1c > 7.5%) were randomized to receive 2 short education sessions over 6 months with a non-dietitian researcher on how to reduce carbohydrate intake by about 25% or to 2 control sessions in which the Australian Guide to Healthy eating was provided. Hba1c and fasting glucose and lipids were measured at baseline and 3 months and 6 months. 33 volunteers attended a baseline visit;27 completed 3 months and 24 6 months. HbA1c was reduced by 0.6% - 0.7% in the low carbohydrate diet group compared with the control group (P = 0.1). Fasting glucose was reduced by 2.3 mmol/L compared with the control group at 3 months (P es in HbA1c at 6 months were related to baseline HbA1c in the intervention group only. Although we have obtained suggestive evidence that a low carbohydrate diet can be successfully implemented in normal practice without professional help, our results are limited by low participant numbers and further studies are required.
