Predictive value of NLR, Fib4, and APRI in the occurrence of liver failure after hepatectomy in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma

BACKGROUND Neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio(NLR),fibrosis index based on four factors(Fib4),aspartate aminotransferase-to-platelet ratio index(APRI)can be used for prognostic evaluation of hepatocellular carcinoma.However,no study has established an individualized prediction model for the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma based on these factors.AIM To screen the factors that affect the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma and establish a nomogram model that predicts postoperative liver failure after hepatic resection in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma.METHODS In total,220 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma treated in our hospital from January 2022 to January 2023 were selected.They were divided into 154 participants in the modeling cohort,and 66 in the validation cohort.Comparative analysis of the changes in NLR,Fib4,and APRI levels in 154 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma before liver resection and at 3 mo,6 mo,and 12 mo postoperatively was conducted.Binary logistic regression to analyze the influencing factors on the occurrence of liver failure in hepatocellular carcinoma patients,roadmap prediction modeling,and validation,patient work characteristic curves(ROCs)to evaluate the predictive efficacy of the model,calibration curves to assess the consistency,and decision curve analysis(DCA)to evaluate the model’s validity were also conducted.RESULTS Binary logistic regression showed that Child-Pugh grading,Surgical site,NLR,Fib4,and APRI were all risk factors for liver failure after hepatic resection in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma.The modeling cohort built a column-line graph model,and the area under the ROC curve was 0.986[95%confidence in terval(CI):0.963-1.000].The patients in the validation cohort utilized the column-line graph to predict the probability of survival in the validation cohort and plotted the ROC curve with an area under the curve of the model of 0.692(95%CI:0.548-0.837).The deviation of the actual outcome curves from the calibration curves of the column-line plots gener

Here,we report a concise and divergent enantioselective total synthesis of marine sesquiterpene quinone meroterpenoids(+)-dysidavarones A–C(1–3)using predysidavarone 6 as a key common intermediate.The highly strained and bridged eight-membered carbocycle of predysidavarone 6 was constructed by a one-pot intermolecular alkylation and intramolecular arylation of Wieland–Miescher ketone derivative 11 and benzyl bromide 12.The total synthesis of(+)-dysidavarones A–C(1–3)was achieved from predysidavarone 6 in a divergent manner by a late-stage introduction of the ethoxy group,which reveals the possible source of the ethoxy group within(+)-dysidavarones A–C(1–3)and provides a late-stage modifiable route for the synthesis of dysidavarone analogs for further anti-cancer activity evaluation.

Efforts to protect electric power systems from faults have commonly relied on the use of ultra-high frequency(UHF)antennas for detecting partial discharge(PD)as a common precursor to faults.However,the effectiveness of existing UHF antennas suffers from a number of challenges such as limited bandwidth,relatively large physical size,and low detection sensitivity.The present study addresses these issues by proposing a compact microstrip patch antenna with fixed dimensions of 100 mm×100 mm×1.6 mm.The results of computations yield an optimized antenna design consisting of 2nd-order Hilbert fractal units positioned within a four-layer serpentine arrangement with a fractal unit connection distance of 3.0 mm.Specifically,the optimized antenna design achieves a detection bandwidth for which the voltage standing wave ratio is less than 2 that is approximately 97.3%of the UHF frequency range(0.3–3 GHz).Finally,a prototype antenna is fabricated using standard printed circuit board technology,and the results of experiments demonstrate that the proposed antenna is capable of detecting PD signals at a distance of 8 m from the discharge source.

Introduction:Myocardial ischemia-reperfusion(IR)injury has received widespread attention due to its damaging effects.Electroacupuncture(EA)pretreatment has preventive effects on myocardial IR injury.SLC26A4 is a Na+independent anion reverse transporter and has not been reported in myocardial IR injury.Objectives:Toﬁnd potential genes that may be regulated by EA and explore the role of this gene in myocardial IR injury.Methods:RNA sequencing and bioinformatics analysis were performed to obtain the differentially expressed genes in the myocardial tissue of IR rats with EA pretreatment.Myocardial infarction size was detected by TTC staining.Serum CK,creatinine kinase-myocardial band,Cardiac troponin I,and lactate dehydrogenase levels were determined by ELISA.The effect of SLC26A4 on cardiomyocyte apoptosis was explored by TUNEL staining and western blotting.The effects of SLC26A4 on inﬂammation were determined by HE staining,ELISA,and real-time PCR.The effect of SLC26A4 on the NF-κB pathway was determined by western blotting.Results:SLC26A4 was up-regulated in IR rats but downregulated in IR rats with EA pretreatment.Compared with IR rats,those with SLC26A4 knockdown exhibited improved cardiac function according to decreased myocardial infarction size,reduced serum LDH/CK/CK-MB/cTnI levels,and elevated left ventricular ejection fraction and fractional shortening.SLC26A4 silencing inhibited myocardial inﬂammation,cell apoptosis,phosphorylation,and nuclear translocation of NF-κB p65.Conclusion:SLC26A4 exhibited promoting effects on myocardial IR injury,while the SLC26A4 knockdown had an inhibitory effect on the NF-κB pathway.These results further unveil the role of SLC26A4 in IR injury.

Prediction model for corrosion rate of low-alloy steels under atmospheric conditions using machine learning algorithms

This work constructed a machine learning(ML)model to predict the atmospheric corrosion rate of low-alloy steels(LAS).The material properties of LAS,environmental factors,and exposure time were used as the input,while the corrosion rate as the output.6 dif-ferent ML algorithms were used to construct the proposed model.Through optimization and filtering,the eXtreme gradient boosting(XG-Boost)model exhibited good corrosion rate prediction accuracy.The features of material properties were then transformed into atomic and physical features using the proposed property transformation approach,and the dominant descriptors that affected the corrosion rate were filtered using the recursive feature elimination(RFE)as well as XGBoost methods.The established ML models exhibited better predic-tion performance and generalization ability via property transformation descriptors.In addition,the SHapley additive exPlanations(SHAP)method was applied to analyze the relationship between the descriptors and corrosion rate.The results showed that the property transformation model could effectively help with analyzing the corrosion behavior,thereby significantly improving the generalization ability of corrosion rate prediction models.

Aerosol liquid water content(ALWC)plays an important role in secondary aerosol formation.In this study,a whole year field campaign was conducted at Shanxi in north Zhejiang Province during 2021.ALWC estimated by ISORROPIA-Ⅱ was then investigated to explore its characteristics and relationship with secondary aerosols.ALWC exhibited a highest value in spring(66.38μg/m^(3)),followed by winter(45.08μg/m^(3)),summer(41.64μg/m^(3)),and autumn(35.01μg/m^(3)),respectively.It was supposed that the secondary inorganic aerosols(SIA)were facilitated under higher ALWC conditions(RH>80%),while the secondary organic species tended to form under lower ALWC levels.Higher RH(>80%)promoted the NO_(3)^(-)formation via gas-particle partitioning,while SO_(4)^(2-)was generated at a relative lower RH(>50%).The ALWC was more sensitive to NO_(3)^(-)(R=0.94)than SO_(4)^(2-)(R=0.90).Thus,the self-amplifying processes between the ALWC and SIA enhanced the particle mass growth.The sensitivity of ALWC and OX(NO_(2)+O_(3))to secondary organic carbon(SOC)varied in different seasons at Shanxi,more sensitive to aqueous-phase reactions(daytime R=0.84;nighttime R=0.54)than photochemical oxidation(daytime R=0.23;nighttime R=0.41)in wintertime with a high level of OX(daytime:130-140μg/m^(3);nighttime:100-140μg/m^(3)).The self-amplifying process of ALWC and SIA and the aqueous-phase formation of SOC will enhance aerosol formation,contributing to air pollution and reduction of visibility.

Synergistic extraction and separation of thorium from rare earths in chloride media using mixture of Cextrant 230 and Cyanex 923

In order to lower the usage of expensive Cyanex 923 and increase the extraction capacity of the system of Cextrant 230,the synergistic extraction of thorium from chloride media by a mixture of Cextrant 230 and Cyanex 923 was investigated.The maximum synergistic enhancement coefficient(R)of 1.53 is obtained at 1:1 molar ratio of Cextrant 230/Cyanex 923.The syne rgistic extracted species of Th^(4+)is determined as ThCl_(4)·2Cextrant 230·Cyanex 923.The synergistic extraction of Th^(4+)is an entropy-driven exothermic process.The loading capacity of 0.60 mol/L mixed extractant for thorium is about 17.10 g/L(calculated as ThO_(2)),and the loaded thorium in the organic phase can be effectively stripped by distilled water.For comparison,rare earth cations are barely extracted under the similar conditions,suggesting that the mixtures can be applied to separate thorium from rare earths.A cascade extraction process was developed based on the synergistic extraction system to separate thorium from the hydrochloric acid leaching of bastnaesite.The content of thorium in the leaching solution decreases obviously from 19.90 mg/L to1.4μg/L by 3 stages of extraction,which is superior to sole Cextrant 230 or Cyanex 923.The introduction of Cextrant 230 into the extraction system not only lowers the usage of Cyanex 923 but also enhances the selective extraction of thorium at low acidity,implying that the synergistic extraction system can selectively extract thorium more efficiently and economically than the sole systems.

An efficient electrocatalyst is indispensable to significantly reduce energy consumption and accelerate the conversion efficiency of water splitting.In this work,the honeycomb-like porous MoCo alloy on nitrogen-doped three-dimensional(3D)porous graphene substrate(Mo_(0.3)Co_(0.7)@NPG)has been synthesized from the annealing of layered double hydroxide(MoCo-LDH@NPG).Especially,the Mo_(0.3)Co_(0.7)@NPG exhibits low hydrogen evolution overpotential of 75 mV(10 mA·cm^(-2))and a Tafel slope of 69.9 mV·dec^(-1),which can be attributed to highly conductive NPG substrate,the unique nanostructure and the synergistic effect of Mo and Co.Moreover,the Mo_(0.3)Co_(0.7)@NPG can maintain the original morphology and high catalytic activity after 50-h stability test.This work proposes a general strategy to synthesize a multi-element alloy on conductive substrates with high porosity for electrocatalytic reaction.

The role of NF-κB and the NLRP3 inflammasome in the chronic inflammatory microenvironment of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH)has been posited as crucial.The Yanggan Jiangmei Formula(YGJMF)has shown promise in ameliorating hepatic steatosis in NASH patients,yet its pharmacological mechanisms remain largely unexplored.This study was conducted to investigate the efficacy of YGJMF in NASH and to elucidate its pharmacological underpinnings.To simulate NASH both in vivo and in vitro,high-fat-diet(HFD)rats and HepG2 cells stimulated with free fatty acids(FFAs)were utilized.The severity of liver injury and lipid deposition was assessed using serum indicators,histopathological staining,micro-magnetic resonance imaging(MRI),and the liver-tomuscle signal intensity ratio(SIRL/M).Furthermore,a combination of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA),immunohistochemistry(IHC),immunofluorescence,real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction(RT-qPCR),and Western blotting analyses was employed to investigate the NF-κB/NLRP3 signaling pathway and associated cytokine levels.The results from liver pathology,MRI assessments,and biochemical tests in rat models demonstrated YGJMF’s significant effectiveness in reducing liver damage and lipid accumulation.Additionally,YGJMF markedly reduced hepatocyte inflammation by downregulating inflammatory cytokines in both liver tissue and serum.Furthermore,YGJMF was found to disrupt NF-κB activation,consequently inhibiting the assembly of the NLRP3 inflammasome in both the in vitro and in vivo models.The preliminary findings of this study suggest that YGJMF may alleviate hepatic steatosis and inhibit the NF-κB/NLRP3 signaling pathway,thereby exerting anti-inflammatory effects in NASH.
