Determining the road traffic accident hotspots using GIS-based temporal-spatial statistical analytic techniques in Hanoi,Vietnam

This study applied GIS-based statistical analytic techniques to investigate the influence of accident Severity Index(SI)on temporal-spatial patterns of accident hotspots related to the specific time intervals of day and seasons.Road Traffic Accident(RTA)data in 3 years(2015-2017)in Hanoi,Vietnam were used to analyze and test this approach.Firstly,the RTA data were divided into four seasons in accordance with Hanoi's weather conditions and the time intervals such as the daytime,nighttime,or peak hours.Then,the Kernel Density Estimation(KDE)method was applied to analyze hotspots according to the time intervals and seasons.Finally,the results were presented by using the comap technique.This study considered both analyses with and without SI.The accident SI measures the seriousness of an accident.The approach method is to give higher weights to the more serious accidents,but not with the extremely high values calculated on a direct rate to the accident expenditures.The results showed that both analyses determined the relatively similar hotspots,but the rankings of some hotspots were quite different due to the integration of SI.It is better to take into account SI in determining RTA hotspots because the gained results are more precise and the rankings of hotspots are more accurate.From there,the traffic authorities can easily understand the causes behind each accident and provide reasonable solutions to solve the most dangerous hotspots in case of limited budget and resources appropriately.This is also the first study about this issue in Vietnam,so the contribution of the article will help the traffic authorities easily solve this problem not only in Hanoi but also in other cities.

Effects of road dust on the growth characteristics of Sophora japonica L.seedlings

Road dust is one of the most common pollutants and causes a series of negative effects on plant physiology. Dust＇s impacts on plants can be regarded as a combination of load,composition and grain size impacts on plants; however, there is a lack of integrated dust effect studies involving these three aspects. In our study, Sophora japonica seedlings were artificially dusted with road dust collected from the road surface of Beijing so that we could study the impacts of this dust on nitrogen/carbon allocation, biomass allocation and photosynthetic pigments from the three aspects of composition, load and grain size. The results showed that the growth characteristics of S. japonica seedlings were mostly influenced by dust composition and load. leaf N, root–shoot ratio and chlorophyll a/b were significantly affected by dust composition and load; leaf C/N, shoot biomass, total chlorophyll and carotenoid were significantly affected by dust load; stem N and stem C/N were significantly affected by dust composition; while the dust grain size alone did not affect any of the growth characteristics. Road dust did influence the growth characteristics more extensively than loam. Therefore, a higher dust load could increase the differences between road dust and loam treatments. The elements in dust are well correlated to the shoot N, shoot C/N, and root–shoot ratio of S. japonica seedlings. This knowledge could benefit the management of urban green spaces.

Understanding the effect of H_(2)O adsorption on reactant activation is of great importance in heterogeneous catalysis,which remains a grand challenge particularly in oxide catalyst systems with structural complexity.Herein,the effect of D_(2)O adsorption on D_(2)activation over MgO nanocatalysts at different temperatures has been investigated by transmission Fourier transform infrared(FT-IR)and temperature-programmed desorption(TPD).Two sets of hydride and hydroxyl species produced from D_(2)dissociation at more active and less active Mg-O pairs can be observed by FT-IR,which all desorb via the product of D_(2)as confirmed by TPD experiments.We find that the physically adsorbed D_(2)O overlayer does not affect the dissociation of D_(2)since D_(2)may pass through the molecular layer and access the surface-active sites.When D_(2)O is partially dissociated on the MgO surface,D_(2)can only dissociate at the remaining active sites until that dissociated-ODw groups from D_(2)O occupy all active sites.These findings provide a fundamental understanding of the effect of water adsorption on D_(2)activation on oxide catalysts.

With the socioeconomic development and the acceleration of the ageing process of the population, the incidence rates of mental disorders and psycho-behavioural problems have become higher and higher worldwide. So far, the disease burden caused by mental disorders has ranked second in the world.1 In China, the disease burden caused by mental disorders accounts for 13% of all non-communicable diseases burden.2 Hence, mental health has become a major public health problem and social problem. In order to promote mental health, the Chinese government has promulgated a series of policies and regulations, as well as reform measures. Moreover, the upcoming 'China Brain Project' will also focus on some mental disorders such as autism, depression and dementia to improve mental health research in China.

Interfacial heat transfer behavior between the molten steel and twin-rolls is a key issue in the strip casting process,and it has already attracted wide attention from industrial and academic communities of steel.The research methods and influencing factors on the interfacial heat transfer were summarized.Numerical simulation models,semi-industrial scale,and laboratory equipment have been developed in this field,and these methods were also improved by worldwide researchers based on the development of computer,automatic,and visual technologies.Coating properties,naturally deposited film,and casting parameters are the main factors which affect the heat transfer significantly.Although lots of research has been carried out,the internal relations among these influencing factors,interfacial heat transfer,and the quality of the strip are still worth to be further explored.Keywords Strip casting Interfacial heat transfer Simulation method Coating property Naturally deposited film Casting parameter.

A series of experiments were conducted to investigate the wettability of graphite plate,graphite paper,NWCNTs Buckypaper,CVD-diamond by molten Ce and graphite plate by Cu-Ce binary alloy using a modified sessile drop method at 950℃.The remarkable apparent equilibrium contact angles(graphite plate(0°)lead to the good wettability.A relatively higher contact angle is caused by high stability of carbon wall in Ce/NWCNT system.The reaction product at interface and the decrease of surface tension due to surface tension-active character of Ce together induce the improved wettability.

Alzheimer's disease(AD)is the most common type of dementia that imposes a high burden on caregivers and has substantial economic cost for society.Although there are no drugs available to reverse the progression of AD,a large number of studies have shown that intervention for the risk factors for AD or administration of disease-modifying therapy at the preclinical/prodromal stage yields better outcomes.Therefore,early diagnosis or accurate prediction of AD in healthy populations and preclinical AD is an important prerequisite for effective intervention.

Independent directors' board networks and controlling shareholders' tunneling behaviorq

As one of the channels by which board directors build important relationships,board networks can affect the governance role of independent directors. Defining director board networks as their connections based on direct ties they establish when serving on at least one common board, this paper explores the role of the network centrality of independent directors in restraining tunneling behavior by controlling shareholders in the Chinese capital market.Our empirical evidence shows that tunneling behavior by controlling shareholders is negatively related to the network centrality of independent directors and that this relationship is stronger when non-operating fund occupation is used as the measure of tunneling. The results of our study show that board networks can help independent directors to restrain tunneling behavior by large shareholders, which plays a positive role in corporate governance.ó 2013 Production and hosting by Elsevier B.V. on behalf of China Journal of Accounting Research. Microstructure and mechanical properties of Fe/NbC composite layer prepared by in-situ reaction

NbC ceramic surface-reinforced steel matrix composites were prepared by an in-situ reaction method at different temperatures(1,050℃,1,100℃and 1,150℃)for different times(1 h,2 h and 3 h).The phase constitution,microstructure and fracture morphology of NbC ceramic surface-reinforced steel matrix composites were analyzed by XRD,SEM and EDS,and the effects of the in-situ reaction temperature and time on the mechanical properties were systematically studied.The results indicate that the NbC reinforcement layer is formed through the reaction between Nb atoms and carbon atoms diffused from the steel matrix to the Nb plate.The thickness of this reinforcement layer increases as the reaction time prolongs.Additionally,an increase in reaction temperature results in a thicker reinforcement layer,although the rate of increase gradually decreases.The relationship among the thickness of the Nb C reinforcement layer,the reaction time and temperature was established by data fitting.The optimal tensile performance is achieved at 1,100℃for 1 h,with a tensile strength of 228 MPa.It is also found that the defects between the reinforcement layer and the steel matrix are related to reaction temperature.At 1,100℃,these defects are minimal.Fracture mostly occurs in the NbC reinforced layer of the composites,and the fracture mode is characterized by typical intergranular brittle fracture.
