Zirconium metal-organic frameworks ZrOBDC(where BDC=C6H4(COOH)2,terephthalic acid)doped and co-doped with rare earth ions Ln(ZrOBDC:Ln^3+,where Ln^3+=Eu3+and Tb^3+as well as Er^3+and Yb^3+)were used as precursors for the design of tetragonal rare earth doped zirconia nanoparticles(t-ZrO2:Ln^3+NPs)through annealing ***,characterization and luminescence properties of ZrOBDC:Ln^3+and ZrO2:Ln^3+NPs were *** as-obtained t-ZrO2:Ln^3+NPs have high purity with an average size of 20-30 *** luminescence spectra of ZrOBDC:Tb^3+and ZrOBDC:Eu3+display strong green and red emission at around 544 and 611 nm which correspond to 5D4→7F5 and 5D0→7F2 transitions of Tb^3+and Eu3+ions,*** green and red up-conversion emissions of ZrO2:Er^3+,Yb^3+NPs due to 2H11/2,4S3/2→4I15/2 and 4F9/2→4I15/2 transitions of the Er^3+ions are observed under 976 nm laser excitation.

The corrosion behavior of spheroidal graphite and flake graphite cast irons was studied in oxidizing and sulfidizing atmospheres between 600 and 800℃ for 50 h. The corrosion rate in the sulfidizing atmosphere was faster than that in air above 700℃, due to the formation of the Fe0.975S sulfide. The corrosion rate of the spheroidal graphite cast iron was similar to that of the flake graphite cast iron.

A numerical analysis of turbulent axisymmetric radial compressible channel flow between a nozzle and a flat plate is presented in this paper. In particular, the application of this type of flow situation in pneumatic dimensional control systems is considered. The Spalart-Allmaras one-equation turbulence model is used. The resulting highly coupled PDE system has been solved using the control volume based numerical approach where the power-law scheme was used extensively to compute the diffusive and convective fluxes of momentum. Results show that local Mach numbers can easily achieve and surpass unity for typical industrial configurations. Also, in the case of a standard industrial nozzle geometry, the presence of a toroidal recirculation zone that moves radially outward is clearly identified in most cases. Separated flow areas are of particular concern as it has been shown previously that they can cause nozzle fouling in industrial applications. It has been shown that the size of this region is dependant on feed pressure. Considerable differences between results obtained using the Spalart-Allmaras and standard k- εturbulence models have also been noticed.

Exosomes are small intracellular membrane-based vesicles with different compositions that are involved in several biological and pathological processes. The exploitation of exosomes as drug delivery vehicles offers important advantages compared to other nanoparticulate drug delivery systems such as liposomes and polymeric nanoparticles; exosomes are non-immunogenic in nature due to similar composition as body's own cells. In this article, the origin and structure of exosomes as well as their biological functions are outlined. We will then focus on specific applications of exosomes as drug delivery systems in pharmaceutical drug development. An overview of the advantages and challenges faced when using exosomes as a pharmaceutical drug delivery vehicles will also be discussed.

With the aim of producing all-solid-state electrochromic mirrors, La0.67–xLi3xTiO3 (LLTO) and the WO3 were prepared by electron beam deposition. The LLTO (with x = 0.11) powder was synthesized by thermally ball-grinding method and the Li+ ionic conductivity of the LLTO ceramic targets was found to be of ca. 3.25 × 10–3 S/cm. Using LLTO targets for e-beam evaporation, 300 nm-thick films with the Li+ ionic conductivity of 5.50 × 10–5 S/cm were deposited. Combining LLTO films with WO3/ITO and LiMn2O4 layers, all-solid-state electrochromic mirrors with a laminar structure of Al/LiMn2O4/LLTO/WO3/ITO were prepared. The reversible reflectance of the mirrors was well controlled by applying polarized potentials onto the ITO electrode. The obtained results suggest useful applications for electrochromic windows working as a smart reflectance mirror that can be used for auto rear-view mirrors.

Biomonitoring of organic and inorganic chemicals in the hair of Vietnamese people via spectral and chromatographic analysis

A combination of spectral and chromatographic analytical methods has been executed to monitor chemicals in the hair of Vietnamese people. Methods were developed for the determination of some chemical elements in hair by inductively coupled-plasma atomic emission spectroscopy with limits of detection reaching 1 - 100 μg·l-1. A supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) and clean-up procedures were established for isolating organochlorine pollutants (OCPs) and organophosphorus pesticides (OPPs) from the hair of the Vietnamese test subjects. Eight OCPs and OPPs were determined by SFE with carbon dioxide only and methanol-modified carbon dioxide extraction at 350 bar and 45℃, followed by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry. The results indicated that OCPs can be extracted quantitatively using CO2 only, whereas OPPs require a modifier for extraction. The limits of detection that were found were between 0.7 to 1.3 μg·g-1, and good linearity (r2 > 0.9861) was achieved within the tested ranges. The activities of the N-acetyltransferase (NAT) and the monooxygenases cytochrome P450 (CYP 450) were determined and compared to the acetylation and oxidation phenotypes of healthy Vietnamese test subjects. The variations in the concentration of chemical elements in human hair were shown to be dependent upon the activities of the two-phase metabolic system, on the individual’s gender and the duration of residence within Russia.

Counter-Wind Deep Current in the Northern Beibu Gulf in Boreal Winter

The Beibu Gulf is at an important geographical location and rich in gas, oil and biological resources. The observed currents showed that the current in the upper layer was opposite to that in the lower layer in boreal winter in the northern Beibu Gulf and it was northeastward in the lower layer. This northeastward current was reproduced by a 3 D baroclinic model in this study. It's found that the counter-wind deep current(referred to as ‘CWDC' hereinafter) strengthened from September to November but weakened from December to the following February. A closed meridional circulation in vertical direction was found in the northern Beibu Gulf, including CWDC, surface southwestward current, an upwelling, and a downwelling. The temporal variation process of the meridional circulation was similar to that of CWDC, with strength and range stronger in November and December than in other four months. Similar to the variation process of CWDC, the monsoon wind changed from weak easterly wind in September to strong northeasterly wind in November and December, and it was transformed into weak southeasterly wind in February again. The sensitive experiments showed that CWDC and the meridional circulation were controlled by the monsoon wind and were adjusted by heat flux-and tide-induced mixing, respectively. According to the momentum balance equation, it can be revealed the counter-wind deep current is a compensation current which is induced by the surface elevation gradient balanced by the Coriolis force, vertical diffusion and baroclinic pressure gradient.

Undoped nickel-based catalysts supported on depleted uranium oxide allow one to carry out CO_(2)methanation process under extremely low reaction temperature under atmospheric pressure and powered by a contactless induction *** adjusting the reaction conditions,the catalyst is able to perform CO_(2)methanation reaction under autothermal process operated inside a non-adiabatic reactor,without any external energy *** autothermal process is possible thanks to the high apparent density of the UO_x which allows one to confine the reaction heat in a small catalyst volume in order to confine the exothermicity of the reaction inside the catalyst and to operate the reaction at equilibrium heat in-heat *** autothermal operation mode allows one to significantly reduce the complexity of the process compared to that operated using adiabatic reactor,where complete insulation is required to prevent heat disequilibrium,in order to reduce as much as possible,the heat exchange with the external *** catalyst displays an extremely high stability as a function of time on stream as no apparent *** is expected that such new catalyst with unprecedented catalytic performance could open new era in the field of heterogeneous catalysis where traditional supports show their limitations to operate catalytic processes under severe reaction conditions.
