Fossil apes are known from several late Miocene localities in Yunnan Province,southwestern China,principally from Shihuiba(Lufeng)and the Yuanmou Basin,and represent three species of *** mostly comprise large samples of isolated teeth,but there are also several partial or complete adult crania from Shihuiba and a single juvenile cranium from *** we describe a new,relatively complete and largely undistorted juvenile cranium from the terminal Miocene locality of Shuitangba,also in *** is only the second ape juvenile cranium recovered from the Miocene of Eurasia and it is provisionally assigned to the species present at Shihuiba,Lufengpithecus *** has most often been linked to the extant orangutan,Pongo pygmaeus,but recent studies of the crania from Shihuiba and Yuanmou have demonstrated that this is *** new cranium reinforces the view that Lufengpithecus represents a distinct,late surviving lineage of large apes in the late Miocene of East Asia that does not appear to be closely affiliated with any extant ape *** substantially increases knowledge of cranial morphology in Lufengpithecus and demonstrates that species of this genus represent a morphologically diverse radiation of apes,which is consistent with the dynamic tectonic and biotic milieu of southwestern China in the late Miocene.

Background:Despite the large socioeconomic burden of alcohol use disorders(AUD),therapeutic treatment options are limited. There is a need to characterise the underlying neurochemistry driving alcohol seeking to identify and evaluate novel targets. AUDs are characterised by a transition to compulsive seeking,which is hypothesized to involve a shift from ventral to dorsal striatum and a medial to lateral dorsal striatal shift in the transition from goaldirected to habitual alcohol-seeking behaviours. Muscarinic acetylcholine receptors(mAChRs) are a potential target for AUD;they are expressed within the mesocorticolimbic reward system,including dense expression in the dorsal striatum,where they modulate dopamine and glutamate release,which may regulate reward processing. Methods:To assess the role of mAChRs in AUD,we first conducted genome-wide RNA sequencing in the caudate/putamen of 10 human alcoholics and 10 healthy controls and concurrently examined muscarinic receptor expression in the corresponding regions in rat(dorsolateral and dorsomedial striatum) following chronic alcohol consumption/withdrawal using qPCR. Next we examined the role of select muscarinic and nicotinic receptor subtypes in alcohol consumption and seeking using selective allosteric modulators. Finally,we probed the role of select muscarinic and nicotinic receptor subtypes in the dorsal striatum in alcohol consumption and seeking. Results:In human alcoholics M4 receptor expression was significantly decreased in the putamen. In line with this,M4 receptor expression was decreased in the rat dorsolateral striatum. Further,administration of VU154(30 mg·kg-1,p.o.) reduced alcohol self-administration and cue-induced relapse,without effects on natural reward consumption or sedation. we also found that a centrally active and selective negative allosteric modulator(NAM) for the rat M5 muscarinic receptor(mAChR),ML375,selectively decreases ethanol self-administration and attenuates cue-induced reinstateme

Measuring Railway Efficiencies with Consideration of Input Congestion

Input congestion very likely existed in rail transport. However, early works measuring the rail transport efficiencies rarely took the input congestion into account;hence, the proposed strategies for enhancing efficiencies can be misleading. This study revisited the rail transport efficiencies with consideration of input congestion. we employed data envelopment analysis extension method to investigate the input congestion for some selected 24 European Union (EU) railways in 2006. The results indicated that there is no strong congestion in these 24 railways. However, 12 railways have been diagnosed with weak congestion in the available capacity of freight transport as well as the number of locomotives, 7 railways in the available capacity of passenger transport, and 4 railways in the number of employees. Based on our findings, the managerial implication is to contract the available capacity of freight transport (tonnages) as the most critical strategy, rather than laying-off the excess number of employees suggested by most previous studies, which did not consider the input congestion effects while measuring the rail transport efficiencies.

The overuse of antibiotics in animal agriculture is recognized as contributing to human antibiotic resistance. with large meat purchases, particularly chicken, school districts have an opportunity to leverage their buying power to engage with this issue. However, few school food service professionals have done so and little is known about their awareness, attitudes, or experiences. This research surveyed 36 school districts affiliated with School Food FOCUS, which works on procurement reform with many of the largest school districts in the country. Questions were designed to solicit familiarity with the issue of antibiotic use in poultry production, attitudes, and extent of relevant action taken. Motivations and barriers for purchasing poultry raised with minimal, safe and sustainable use of antibiotics as well as fresh (raw) poultry, which has been found to be an affordable way to menu antibiotic-free chicken, were assessed. Results revealed that this issue is important to respondents but difficult to address due to more immediate concerns. Barriers are experienced with purchasing both chicken raised without antibiotics and preparing fresh chicken. Product cost was perceived as a particularly high barrier. Responding to concerns of parents and the community was a top motivation.

In multi physics computations where a compressible fluid is coupled with a linearly elastic solid,it is standard to enforce continuity of the normal velocities and of the normal stresses at the interface between the fluid and the *** a numerical scheme,there are many ways that velocity-and stress-continuity can be enforced in the discrete *** paper performs a normal mode stability analysis of the linearized problem to investigate the stability of different numerical interface conditions for a model problem approximated by upwind type finite difference *** analysis shows that depending on the ratio of densities between the solid and the fluid,some numerical interface conditions are stable up to the maximal CFL-limit,while other numerical interface conditions suffer from a severe reduction of the stable *** paper also presents a new interface condition,obtained as a simplified characteristic boundary condition,that is proved to not suffer from any reduction of the stable *** experiments in one space dimension show that the new interface condition is stable also for computations with the non-linear Euler equations of compressible fluid flow coupled with a linearly elastic solid.

william R. Downs, Ⅲ, known as Dong weilin to many friends, died a relatively young man ( 1950 ～ 2002) at the height of his career in *** career began at the Museum of Northern Arizona in 1975. One of his early tasks was the preparation of Triassic cynodonts from Antarctica for Edwin ***, then Curator Emeritus of the American Museum of Natural History and Curator of Vertebrate Paleontology at the Museum of Northern Arizona (Colbert and Kitching, 1977). will prepared the Early jurassic armored ornithischian Scutellosaurus for Colbert (1981), and he collected and prepared a skull of Pentaceratops from the Cretaceous of the San juan Basin (Rowe et al., 1981 ).One of his early ventures into screen-washing was near the Pentaceratops site in the San juan Basin (Flynn, 1986) where mammals were poorly represented. In the mid-1980' s, will left the Museum of Northern Arizona to become affiliated with Northern Arizona University, also in Flagstaff. In addition, he was briefly employed to revamp the fossil preparation laboratories at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, during which time he joined in excavations of a large series of small primitive ornithopods in Texas (winkler et al.,1988). He maintained an office at the Bilby Research Center, and then the Department of Geology,at Northern Arizona University until the time of his death

AIM： To evaluate surgical outcomes（SOs） and visual outcomes（VOs） in cataract surgery comparing the Centurion？ phacoemulsification system（CPS） with the Infiniti？ phacoemulsification system（IPS）.METHODS： Prospective, consecutive study in a singlesite private practice. Totally 412 patients undergoing cataract surgery with either the CPS using the 30-degree balanced？ tip（n=207） or the IPS using the 30-degree Kelman？ tip（n=205）. Intraoperative and postoperative outcomes were documented prospectively up to one month follow-up. Nuclear sclerosis（NS） grade, cumulated dissipated energy（CDE）, preoperative corrected distance visual acuity（CDVA）, and CDVA at one month were recorded. RESULTS： CDE was 13.50% less in the whole CPS compared with the whole IPS subcohort. In eyes with NS grade III or greater, CDE was 28.87% less with CPS（n=70） compared with IPS（n=44）（P=0.010）. Surgical complications were not statistically different between the two subcohorts（P=0.083）, but in the one case of vitreous loss using the CPS, CDVA of 6/4 was achieved at one month. The mean CDVAs（VOs） at one month for NS grade III and above cataracts were-0.17 log MAR（6/4.5） in the CPS and-0.15 log MAR（6/4.5） in the IPS subcohort respectively（P=0.033）.CONCLUSION： CDE is 28.87% less, and VOs are significantly improved, in denser cataracts in the CPS compared with the IPS. The authors recommend the CPS for cases with denser nuclei.
