Prey animals are often faced with uncertainty due to having imperfect information regarding current local conditions,including predation risks and the availability of reliable foraging opportunities(Dall 2010).As this uncertainty increases,the probability of making costly behavioral errors also increases,leading to more risk averse behavioral tactics(Feyten et al.2019).For example,Trinidadian guppies Poecilia reticulata are far more risk averse when faced with multiple unknown sources of risk assessment information than when faced with a mix of known and unknown cues(Feyten et al.2019).Prey can reduce uncertainty by gathering and integrating private and social information regarding current risk levels within microhabitats(Dall 2010;Munoz and Blumstein 2012).

微创牙科学是指采用生物学方法而不是传统的牙体手术处理龋病,以最大限度地减少对牙体结构的破坏。这种新的龋病处理方法,将过去强调的视龋损为“洞”而反复充填的理念,转变为视龋损为口腔生态失衡而促使生物膜产生生物学变化。微创牙科学的目的在于阻止龋病进程,然后修复缺失的牙体结构和功能,最大限度地发挥牙体的愈合潜能。微创牙科学的处理方法可概括为3个步骤:(1)判定患者的患龋风险;(2)再矿化,即防止龋损形成并逆转未形成“洞”的浅龋;(3)修复,即控制龋活性,使愈合潜能最大化并修复龋损。龋病并非仅仅是牙体脱矿,而是一个因生物膜与牙界面生态和化学平衡失衡而致的反复的脱矿过程(生态菌斑学说)。饮食和生活方式(尤其是碳水化合物的摄入频次)、饮水、吸烟是导致生物膜生态和致病性的重要因素。椅旁评价菌斑和唾液的方法的问世,使得龋病危险评估和监测患者的顺从性成为可能。唾液的再矿化特性,可以通过使用能够释放Ca2+、P5+、F1-的再矿化剂(CPP-ACPandCPP-ACFP)而予强化。使用某些化学制剂(氟、氯已定和木糖醇),可改变菌斑的致病性。采用微创治疗方案,可修复早期龋损,增进患者的理解力和顺从性。本文从3个方面,详细论述了微创牙科学的概念、理论基础和操作方法。

The combination of urbanization and global warming leads to urban overheating and compounds the frequency and intensity of extreme heat events due to climate change.Yet,the risk of urban overheating can be mitigated by urban green-blue-grey infrastructure(GBGI),such as parks,wetlands,and engineered greening,which have the potential to effectively reduce summer air temperatures.Despite many reviews,the evidence bases on quantified GBGI cooling benefits remains partial and the practical recommendations for implementation are unclear.This systematic literature review synthesizes the evidence base for heat mitigation and related co-benefits,identifies knowledge gaps,and proposes recommendations for their implementation to maximize their benefits.After screening 27,486 papers,202 were reviewed,based on 51 GBGI types categorized under 10 main divisions.Certain GBGI(green walls,parks,street trees)have been well researched for their urban cooling capabilities.However,several other GBGI have received negligible(zoological garden,golf course,estuary)or minimal(private garden,allotment)attention.The most efficient air cooling was observed in botanical gardens(5.0±3.5℃),wetlands(4.9±3.2℃),green walls(4.1±4.2℃),street trees(3.8±3.1℃),and vegetated balconies(3.8±2.7℃).Under changing climate conditions(2070–2100)with consideration of RCP8.5,there is a shift in climate subtypes,either within the same climate zone(e.g.,Dfa to Dfb and Cfb to Cfa)or across other climate zones(e.g.,Dfb[continental warm-summer humid]to BSk[dry,cold semi-arid]and Cwa[temperate]to Am[tropical]).These shifts may result in lower efficiency for the current GBGI in the future.Given the importance of multiple services,it is crucial to balance their functionality,cooling performance,and other related co-benefits when planning for the future GBGI.This global GBGI heat mitigation inventory can assist policymakers and urban planners in prioritizing effective interventions to reduce the risk of urban overheating,filling research gaps,and promoting community resi

Peyronie's disease is a common condition resulting in penile deformity,psychological bother,and sexual dysfunction.Erectile dysfunction is one common comorbid condition seen in men with Peyronie’s disease,and its presence significantly impacts treatment considerations.In a man with Peyronie's disease and significant erectile dysfunction who desires the most reliable treatment,penile prosthesis placement should be strongly considered.In some instances,such as those patients with relatively mild curvature,prosthesis placement alone may result in adequate straightening.However,many patients will require additional straightening maneuvers such as manual modeling,penile plication,and tunica albuginea incision with or without grafting.For patients with severe penile shortening,penile length restoration techniques may also be considered.Herein,we provide a comprehensive clinical review of penile prosthesis placement in men with Peyronie's disease.Specifically,we discuss preoperative indications,intraoperative considerations,adjunctive straightening maneuvers,and postoperative outcomes.

Ultrafine particles represent a growing concern in the public health community but their precise role in many illnesses is still unknown. This lack of knowledge is related to the experimental difficulty in linking their biological effects to their multiple properties, which are important determinants of toxicity. Our aim is to propose an interdisciplinary approach to study fine(FP) and ultrafine(UFP) particles, generated in a controlled manner using a mini CAST(Combustion Aerosol Standard) soot generator used with two different operating conditions(CAST1 and CAST3). The chemical characterization was performed by an untargeted analysis using ultra-high resolution mass spectrometry. In conjunction with this approach, subsequent analysis by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry(GC–MS) was performed to identify polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAH). CAST1 enabled the generation of FP with a predominance of small PAH molecules, and CAST3 enabled the generation of UFP, which presented higher numbers of carbon atoms corresponding to larger PAH molecules. Healthy normal human bronchial epithelial(NHBE) cells differentiated at the air-liquid interface(ALI) were directly exposed to these freshly emitted FP and UFP. Expression of MUC5AC, FOXj1, OCLN and ZOI as well as microscopic observation confirmed the ciliated pseudostratified epithelial phenotype. Study of the mass deposition efficiency revealed a difference between the two operating conditions, probably due to the morphological differences between the two categories of particles. We demonstrated that only NHBE cells exposed to CAST3 particles induced upregulation in the gene expression of IL-8 and NQO1. This approach offers new perspectives to study FP and UFP with stable and controlled properties.

With the recent advances in detection and treatment of cancer,there is an increasing emphasis on the efficacy and safety aspects of cancer therapy.Radiation therapy is a common treatment for a wide variety of cancers,either alone or in combination with other treatments.Ionising radiation injury to the gastrointestinal tract is a frequent side effect of radiation therapy and a considerable proportion of patients suffer acute or chronic gastrointestinal symptoms as a result.These side effects often cause morbidity and may in some cases lower the efficacy of radiotherapy treatment.Radiation injury to the gastrointestinal tract can be minimised by either of two strategies:technical strategies which aim to physically shift radiation dose away from the normal intestinal tissues,and biological strategies which aim to modulate the normal tissue response to ionising radiation or to increase its resistance to it.Although considerable improvement in the safety of radiotherapy treatment has been achieved through the use of modern optimised planning and delivery techniques,biological techniques may offer additional further promise.Different agents have been used to prevent or minimize the severity of gastrointestinal injury induced by ionising radiation exposure,including biological,chemical and pharmacological agents.In this review we aim to discuss various technical strategies to prevent gastrointestinal injury during cancer radiotherapy,examine the different therapeutic options for acute and chronic gastrointestinal radiation injury and outline some examples of research directions and considerations for prevention at a pre-clinical level.

Since its original application,gastrointestinal(GI)endoscopy has undergone many innovative transformations aimed at expanding the scope,safety,accuracy,acceptability and cost-effectiveness of this area of clinical practice.One method of achieving this has been to reduce the caliber of endoscopic devices.We propose the collective term“Miniature GI Endoscopy”.In this Opinion Review,the innovations in this field are explored and discussed.The progress and clinical use of the three main areas of miniature GI endoscopy(ultrathin endoscopy,wireless endoscopy and scanning fiber endoscopy)are described.The opportunities presented by these technologies are set out in a clinical context,as are their current limitations.Many of the positive aspects of miniature endoscopy are clear,in that smaller devices provide access to potentially all of the alimentary canal,while conferring high patient acceptability.This must be balanced with the costs of new technologies and recognition of device specific challenges.Perspectives on future application are also considered and the efforts being made to bring new innovations to a clinical platform are outlined.Current devices demonstrate that miniature GI endoscopy has a valuable place in investigation of symptoms,therapeutic intervention and screening.Newer technologies give promise that the potential for enhancing the investigation and management of GI complaints is significant.
