Single and double layer centrifugation improve the quality of cryopreserved bovine sperm from poor quality ejaculates

Background： density gradient centrifugation was reported as a technique of semen preparation in assisted reproductive techniques in humans and animals. This technique was found to be efficient in improving semen quality after harmful techniques such as cryopreservation. Recently a modified technique, single layer centrifugation,was proposed as a technique providing a large amount of high quality spermatozoa, and this treatment was performed before conservation. Single layer centrifugation has been studied prevalently in stallions and in boars,but limited data were available for bulls. Occasionally bulls are known to experience a transient reduction in semen quality, thus techniques that allow improvement in semen quality could be applied in this context. The aim of this study was the evaluation of single layer and double layer centrifugation by the use of iodixanol, compared with conventional centrifugation and non-centrifuged semen, on the sperm characteristics during the cryopreservation process in bulls with normal and poor semen ***： Single layer centrifugation and double layer centrifugation both significantly increased the percentage of normal spermatozoa and decreased the percentage of non-sperm cells in poor quality samples, while both were ineffective in those of normal quality. Sperm characteristics in poor quality samples increased after single layer centrifugation and double layer centrifugation, reaching values similar to those recorded in normal samples, and this trend is maintained after equilibration and after cryopreservation. floods remain one of the most devastating weather-induced disastersworldwide, resulting in numerous fatalities each year and severelyimpacting socio-economic development and the ***, the ability to predict flood-prone areas in advance is crucialfor effective risk management. The objective of this research is to assessand compare three convolutional neural networks, U-Net, WU-Net, andU-Net++, for spatial prediction of pluvial flood with a case study at atropical area in the north of Vietnam. They are relative new convolutionalgorithms developed based on U-shaped architectures. for this task, ageospatial database with 796 historical flood locations and 12 floodindicators was prepared. for training the models, the binary crossentropywas employed as the loss function, while the Adaptive momentestimation (AdAM) algorithm was used for the optimization of themodel parameters, whereas, f1-score and classification accuracy (Acc)were used to assess the performance of the models. The results unequivocally highlight the high performance of the three models,achieving an impressive accuracy rate of 96.01%. The flood susceptibility maps derived from this research possess considerable utility for local authorities, providing valuable insights and informationto enhance decision-making processes and facilitate the implementation of effective risk management strategies.

Pulse wave doppler ultrasound of testicular arteries and their relationship with semen characteristics in healthy bulls

Background: Semen evaluation is used to estimate the testicular function. In bulls, the spermatozoa present in the ejaculate are the result of a process that begun more than 2 mo earlier, bequeathing a delayed depiction of the actual function of the testis. Since testis vascularization might be critical for the gonad function, selected pulse wave doppler ultrasound parameters were assessed in this study, for instance the peak systolic velocity, the end diastolic velocity and the resistive index of the testicular artery along the spermatic cord, the marginal portion of the testicular artery and the intratesticular branches of the testicular artery both in healthy adult and young *** between these parameters and characteristics of semen that was collected numerous times, before and after the doppler ultrasound ***: The peak systolic velocity and the end diastolic velocity measured in the testicular artery along the spermatic cord(supratesticular artery – SA) were variable among the bulls and within individual bulls, likely due to the convoluted course of the vessel. The resistive index was found highly repeatable in the same bull. A reduction in the resistive index was found between the supratesticular artery and the marginal portion of the testicular artery(P d between the marginal portion of the testicular artery and the intratesticular branches of the testicular artery(P differences were recorded for the pulse wave doppler ultrasound parameters in young bulls compared with adults. Assessment of the anterior spinal artery and the artery of Adamkiewicz using multi-detector CT angiography

Background damage to the spinal cord after the treatment of the descending thoracic and thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms is an uncommon but devastating complication. The artery of Adamkiewicz （AKA） is the principal arterial supply of the anterior spinal artery （ASA） in the lower thoracic and lumbar level. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the visualization of the anterior spinal artery and the artery of Adamkiewicz, the affecting factors for the detection rate using multi-detector row CT （MdCT）. Methods Ninety-nine consecutive patients （31 women and 68 men; age range, 25-90 years; average age 61.3 years）, with suspicion for thoracic aortic lesions necessitating surgical intervention （31 aortic aneurysm, 45 dissection, 5 intramural hematoma, and 18 normal）, underwent CT angiography from the aortic arch to the aortic bifurcation. Transverse sections, multiplanar reformations and thin maximum intensity projections were used to assess the ASA and AKA. The level of the ASA and AKA origins and CT acquisition parameters were recorded. The contrast-to-noise ratio of the image, an index of the mass of the Tll body （vertebral mass index）, the subcutaneous fat thickness, and the CT value within the aortic arch and at the Tll level were measured. The detection of the ASA and AKA were evaluated relative to the acquisition parameters, scan characteristics, and aortic lesion type. differences were assessed with the Wilcoxon rank-sum and t tests. Results The ASA was visualized in 51 patients （52%） and the AKA in 18 patients （18%）. The ASA was identified in 36/67 patients （54%） with 1.25 mm thickness and in 15/32 patients （47%） with 2.5-3.0 mm thickness. This difference did not achieve significance （P=0.13）. The detection rate of the ASA and the AKA was influenced by the vertebral mass index and the contrast-to-noise ratio （P〈0.05）. The aim of this research was to evaluate the dietary supplementation 1% （w/w） of oregano and sage dried leaves on performances and meat quality of broiler rabbits. A feeding trial, which lasted 48 d, was carried out on 105 male Bianca Italiana rabbits randomly divided in seven groups and fed ad libitum. At the end of the trial ten animals per group were slaughtered and samples of dorsal muscle were taken in order to perform laboratory analysis. Mortality rate did not statistically differ between groups. Growth performances of animals fed diets supplemented with aromatic plants were higher （P〈0.05） than those of animals of control group, whereas carcass parameters were not affected by treatments excepting for the slaughter weight that showed the same trend as growth performances. Meat quality traits, oxidative lipid stability and fatty acid proifle were not inlfuenced by aromatic plant supplementation. In conclusion, oregano and sage in form of dried leaves can be used in rabbit without adverse effects on performance, carcass characteristics and meat quality traits.

Okara as a protein supplement affects feed intake and milk composition of ewes and growth performance of lambs

Evaluating the feeding value of wet okara as a protein supplement for lactating ewes with twin lambs was the objective. A 4 x 4 Latin square replicated 2 x(4 sheep, 4 treatments, 4 periods per square; 2 squares) was conducted to examine the influence of concentrate mix(okara or not) and type of forage(silage or hay) on ewe milk composition and growth of their lactating lambs. Treatment periods were 14 days(7 days adaptation and 7 days collection). Ewes(55 to 74.8 kg BW) were fed 1 of 4 diets: wheat middling and corn concentrate with mixed grass hay(TSH), okara and corn with mixed grass hay(OSH),soybean and wheat middlings with hay crop silage(TSS), and okara and corn with hay crop silage(OSS).Ewes fed hay diets had lower forage dry matter intakes than ewes fed silage. Intake of okara supplement was higher(P d) than with OSS(1.70 kg/d). There was no difference in supplement intake between TSH and TSS. There were no differences among diets for lamb daily gains or in ewe milk compositions among the diets. Okara is an effective source of protein for lactating ewes and their twin lambs.

Production performance and plasma metabolite concentrations of broiler chickens fed low crude protein diets differing in Thr and Gly

The aim of the study was to test the interaction between Thr and Gly in low crude protein(CP)diets in 7 to 28 d broilers on production performance and plasma metabolites.A total of 2,040 broilers were allocated to 17 treatments.A positive control(PC)diet(20.5%CP)was formulated to be adequate in dietary Thr and Gly.A negative control(NC)diet(18.5%CP,deficient in Thr and Gly)was supplemented with crystalline L-Thr and Gly to obtain a 4 Thr×4 Gly *** Thr was tested at an apparent faecal digestibility(Afd)Thr-to-Lys ratio,which was 55%,58%,61%or 64%,and dietary Gly was tested at an Afd(Gly+Ser)-to-Lys ratio,which was 135%,142%,149%or 156%.Plasma samples were collected at 28 *** low CP diet,formulated at 64%Thr and 156%Gly,resulted in a higher body weight gain(BWG)(Pd similar feed conversion ratio(fCR)as the high CP treatment(PC).fCR was improved(Pdietary Thr was significant for feed intake(fI),BWG and fCR(Pficant interaction for Thr×Gly was observed for fI and BWG(Plinear=0.091 and P=0.074,respectively).Gly did not affect production *** interaction between Thr×Gly on plasma free AA level was observed(Pfree AA concentration in plasma linearly decreased with increase in Afd Thr-to-Lys ratio,and increased with increase in Afd(Gly+Ser)-to-Lys *** uric acid concentration was higher in PC than in all of the other diets,and plasma triglyceride concentration was decreased by L-Thr supplementation,but not by *** conclusion,Gly was not limiting for growth at low dietary CP level unless Thr was deficient,showing that adequate amounts of Thr in broiler diets can overcome marginal supply of Gly and Ser and allow reduction of dietary CP from 20.5%to 18.5%for broilers from 7 to 28 d of age.
