Inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)is a chronic inflammatory condition of the gastrointestinal tract due,at least partially,to an aberrant and excessive mucosal immune response to gut bacteria in genetically-predisposed individuals under certain environmental *** incidence of IBD is rising in western and newly industrialized countries,paralleling the increase of westernized dietary patterns,through new antigens,epithelial function and permeability,epigenetic mechanisms(e.g.,DNA methylation),and alteration of the gut *** in the composition and functionality of the gut microbiome(including bacteria,viruses and fungi)seems to be a nuclear pathogenic *** microbiome itself is dynamic,and the changes in food quality,dietary habits,living conditions and hygiene of these western societies,could interact in a complex manner as modulators of dysbiosis,thereby influencing the activation of immune cells’promoting *** microbiome produces diverse small molecules via several metabolic ways,with the fiber-derived short-chain fatty acids(i.e.,butyrate)as main elements and having anti-inflammatory *** metabolites and some micronutrients of the diet(i.e.,vitamins,folic acid,beta carotene and trace elements)are regulators of innate and adaptive intestinal immune *** excessive and unhealthy consumption of sugar,animal fat and a low-vegetable and-fiber diet are risk factors for IBD ***,metabolism of nutrients in intestinal epithelium and in gut microbiota is altered by inflammation,changing the demand for nutrients needed for *** role of food and a reduced gut microbial diversity in causing IBD might also have a prophylactic or therapeutic role for *** relationship between dietary intake,symptoms,and bowel inflammation could lead to dietary and lifestyle recommendations,including diets with abundant fruits,vegetables,olive oil and oily fish,which have anti-inflammatory effects and could pre

Stainless steel implants are suitable candidates for bone replacement due to their cytocompatibility and mechanical resistance,but they suffer from lack of bioactivity and are prone to bacterial ***,to overcome those limitations,in this study we developed by electrophoretic deposition(EPD),an innovative surface coating made of(i)zein,a natural fibroblast-friendly polymer,(ii)bioactive glass,a pro-osteogenic inorganic material and(iii)copper containing bioactive glass,an antibacterial and pro-angiogenic *** images confirmed that porous,uniform and free of cracks coatings were obtained by EPD;moreover,coatings were resistant to mechanical stress as demonstrated by the tape test,resulting in a 4B classification of adhesion to the *** coatings were cytocompatible as indicated by metabolism evaluation of human fibroblasts,endothelial cells and mature or progenitor osteoblasts cultivated in direct contact with the *** also maintained pro-osteogenic properties towards undifferentiated progenitor cells that expressed osteogenic genes after 15 days of direct *** conferred antibacterial properties as biofilm formation of the joint pathogens Staphylococcus aureus,Staphylococcus epidermidis and Escherichia coli was significantly reduced in comparison with copper-free coatings(p<0.05).Moreover,this anti-infective activity resulted as targeted towards bacteria while the cells viability was preserved when cells and bacteria were cultivated in the same environment by a co-culture ***,copper ability to recruit blood vessels and to inhibit bacterial infection was confirmed in vivo where the growth of *** biofilm was inhibited and the formation of new(<50μm diameter spread)blood vessels was observed.

Building geometry data from online maps for accurate thermal simulations of districts

Current approaches for simulating the energy performance of buildings on a large scale are limited by numerous assumptions and simplifications,which can lead to inaccurate *** new tools and procedures are emerging to improve accuracy,there remains a need for more user-friendly *** study proposes a new tool based on online maps to create the geometry of districts in a simple *** tool also enables an automatic evaluation of all buildings through dynamic hourly simulations,using a building simulation software and allowing to consider different weather *** illustrate the procedure,a district at risk of energy poverty in Seville(Spain)is modeled,where hourly temperature data for a whole year are available to demonstrate the need for building *** tool is used to evaluate the energy demands of the district under several retrofitting alternatives,and free-floating simulations are also performed to evaluate the improvement of thermal comfort without air-conditioning *** aim is not to discuss the actual values for this particular case,but rather to identify the correct direction for large-scale studies,so as to make them more easily ***,it may be concluded that the results provided by comprehensive tools,such as the one proposed in this study,enable easy yet accurate evaluations of buildings on a large scale with significant time savings,as well as the identification of locations where retrofitting interventions would have the greatest impact.

Outflow reconstruction with arterial patch in domino liver transplantation: a new technical option

Domino liver transplantation（LT）, using livers from familial amyloidotic polyneuropathy（FAP） patients, is a well described technique useful to expand donor pool. One of the main difficulties of this type of LT arises from the necessity to share the vascular pedicles between the graft and the donor. The most important challenge resides in restoring a proper hepatic venous outflow in the FAP-liver *** is specially challenging when using the piggy-back technique, because the hepatic stumps may be too short. To overcome this issue, surgeons explored several techniques using different types of venous grafts. We describe a new technical option by using an arterial graft from the deceased donor. By using both iliac arteries a long graft is created and sutured as needed to the hepatic vein stump. We describe herein this new technique employed in a domino liver recipient who underwent retransplantation for ischemic cholangitis. The procedure was performed using the piggy-back technique; the venous stump of the FAP liver was reconstructed with the arterial graft. The patient had uneventful postoperative and mid-term hepatic function, and anastomosis was patent 24 months after LT.

Liver transplantation(LT) after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy in patients with unresectable hilar cholangiocarcinoma(HC) is an accepted treatment strategy [1]. Neoadjuvant therapy is associated with an increased risk of arterial and portal complications after LT [1,2]. In most cases, radiation therapy makes the use of the native hepatic artery inadvisable, and an aortic anastomosis is needed, either with or without a graft [2].

Background The pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)has had great effects on health systems worldwide,not only in relation to coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)cases but also affecting patients with other *** ECIEN-2020 is an observational study conducted in a tertiary referral hospital in Navarra,*** describes the effects of COVID-19 pandemic and the preventive measures adopted,in pediatric admissions for non-COVID-19 *** during March-June 2020(first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Spain)are described and compared with the same quarter in 2019.A sub-analysis was performed delving into *** characteristics(age,sex,past medical history),disease characteristics(symptoms,duration of symptoms,previous consultation in Primary Care Health Center),and admission characteristics(place and average stay)were *** A 33% reduction in the number of pediatric hospital admissions was observed,decreasing from 529 hospitaliza-tions in 2019 to 353 in 2020(P<0.001).This highlights a 48% reduction in patients admitted for pulmonary *** were no significant changes in average hospital-stay,percentage of intensive care unit admissions,or in admissions for other *** of patients admitted among those seen in the emergency department rose from 5.1%in 2019 to 10.9% in 2020,whereas the total number of consultations in the emergency department decreased by 68%.Conclusion The pandemic and the measures adopted due to SARS-CoV-2 have significantly decreased pediatric admissions for non-COVID-19 diseases,especially due to a reduction in the hospitalization for respiratory diseases.

ApoB-100, ApoE and CYP7A1 gene polymorphisms in Mexican patients with cholesterol gallstone disease

AIM: To determine the possible association of the ApoB100 (Xba Ⅰ ), ApoE (Hha Ⅰ ) and CYP7A1 (Bsa Ⅰ ) gene polymorphisms, with the development of cholesterol gallstone disease (GD) in a Mexican population. METHODS: The polymorphisms were analyzed by polymerase chain reaction followed by restriction fragment length polymorphism, in two groups matched by ethnicity, age and sex: patients with GD (n = 101) and stone-free control subjects (n = 101). RESULTS: Allelic frequencies in patients and controls were: 34.16% vs 41.58% (P = 0.124) for X+of ApoB-100; 4.46% vs 5.94% (P = 0.501) for E2, 85.64% vs 78.22% (P = 0.052) for E3, 9.90% vs 15.84% (P = 0.075) for E4 of ApoE; and 25.74% vs 27.72% (P = 0.653) for C of CYP7A1. Differences in genotypic frequencies between the studied groups were not significant (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: These results demonstrated that no association exists between the studied polymorphisms and cholelithiasis in this high prevalent population.

The production and secretion of antibodies by human plasma cells(PCs)are two essential processes of humoral *** secretion process relies on a group of proteins known as soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor attachment protein receptors(SNAREs),which are located in the plasma membrane(t-SNAREs)and in the antibody-carrying vesicle membrane(v-SNARE),and mediate the fusion of both *** have previously shown that SNAP23 and STX4 are the t-SNAREs responsible for antibody ***,using human PCs and antibody-secreting cell lines,we studied and characterized the expression and subcellular distribution of vesicle associated membrane protein(VAMP)isoforms,demonstrating that all isoforms(with the exception of VAMP1)are expressed by the referenced ***,the functional role in antibody secretion of each expressed VAMP isoform was tested using *** results show that VAMP2 may be the v-SNARE involved in vesicular antibody *** further support this conclusion,we used tetanus toxin light chain to cleave VAMP2,conducted experiments to verify co-localization of VAMP2 in antibody-carrying vesicles,and demonstrated the coimmunoprecipitation of VAMP2 with STX4 and SNAP23 and the in situ interaction of VAMP2 with *** together,these findings implicate VAMP2 as the main VAMP isoform functionally involved in antibody secretion.
