We.validate. a radioimmunoassay-base. me.hod quantifying fe.al glucocorticoid me.abolite. (FGMs) from captive.male.and fe.ale.Richardson’s ground squirre.sUrocite.lus richardsonii. Blood sample. we.e.drawn to e.plore.the.corre.ation be.we.n plasma cortisol and FGM conce.trations. We.also inje.te. groups of squirre.s with normal saline.(CTL; control), adre.nocorticotropic hormone.(ACTH; stimulating adre.al activity), or de.ame.hasone.(De.; suppre.sing adre.al activity). Pote.tial corre.ations be.we.n stre.s and be.aviour we.e.e.plore. through quantification of fe.al pe.le. production and the.inte.ve.tion ne.e.sary to e.icit de.e.ation, as we.l as the.be.aviour of subje.ts in the.conte.t of handling. Change. in plasma cortisol conce.tration be.we.n capture.(base.ine., and following handling (stre.s-induce.) we.e.also quantifie. for fre.-living squirre.s. The.combine. application of diffe.e.t me.hods he.ps to pre.ise.y e.timate.the.e.proce.se., which is crucial for the.future.manage.e.t of draine. pe.tlands, and to mitigate.soil de.radation and ne.ative.atmosphe.ic impact. In this study, we.inve.tigate. N2O source. by combining trace., isotopome.,and microbial analysis in a draine. pe.tland fore.t unde. floode. and draine. tre.tme.ts. N2O fluxe. be.we.n the.draine. and floode. tre.tme.ts. The.e.issions of N2O from the.floode. tre.tme.t we.e.ne.rly ne.ligible. whe.e.s the.N2O e.olve. from the.nitroge. -15(15N)-labe.le. ammonium(15NH4+) in the.draine. tre.tme.t pe.ke. at 147 μg15N m-2h-1. This initially sugge.te. nitrification as the.driving me.hanism be.ind N2O fluxe. in draine. pe.tlands, but base. on the.ge.e.ic data, isotopic analysis, and N2O mass e.richme.t, we.conclude.that hybrid N2O formation involving ammonia oxidation was the.main source.of N2O e.issions in the.draine. tre.tme.t.
