Binary asymmetric nanocrystals （BNCs）, composed of a photoactive TiO2 nanorod joined with a superparamagnetic γ-Fe203 spherical domain, were embedded in polyethylene glycol modified phospholipid micelle and successfully bioconjugated to a suitably designed peptide containing an RGD motif. BNCs represent a relevant multifunctional nanomaterial, owing to the coexistence of two distinct domains in one particle, characterized by high photoactivity and magnetic properties, that is particularly suited for use as a phototherapy and hyperthermia agent as well as a magnetic probe in biological imaging. We selected the RGD motif in order to target integrin expressed on activated endothelial cells and several types of cancer cells. The prepared RGD-peptide/BNC conjugates, comprehensively monitored by using complementary optical and structural techniques, demon- strated a high stability and uniform dispersibility in biological media. The cytotoxicity of the RGD-peptide/BNC conjugates was studied in vitro. The cellular uptake of RGD-peptide conjugates in the cells, assessed by means of two distinct approaches, namely confocal microscopy analysis and emission spectroscopy determination in cell lysates, displayed selectivity of the RGD-peptide-BNC conjugate for the cw]33 integrin. These RGD-peptide-BNC conjugates have a high potential for theranostic treatment of cancer.

Carbon dioxide(CO2)emissions from motor vehicles have been increasing in large urban centers,thus contributing to air *** general objective of this study is to analyze simulations of CO2 emissions among students who use public transport in the city of Passo Fundo,in the state of Rio Grande do Sul,***,this study was developed in three stages:(1)verification of the time used by higher education students at Faculdade Meridional(IMED)in relation to urban mobility;(2)understanding of the transport mode used by these students,taking into account the one which appears with the highest incidence;(3)simulating CO2 emissions from the modes of transport used by students after the application of the Environmental Impact Simulator(EIS)used by the National Public Transport Association(ANTP,in Portuguese)for the modeling of transport indexes aimed at analyzing CO2 *** considering the total of 3,079 students who assigned to a sample of 66 questionnaires,a reduction of CO2 emissions of 4,527.04 kg during a year in relation to the use of public transport was found.

Self-action nonlinearity is a key aspect either as a foundational element or a detrimental factor of several optical spectroscopies and photonic *** generation,wavelength converters,and chirped pulse amplification are just a few *** recent advent of Free Electron Lasers(FEL)fostered building on nonlinearity to propose new concepts and extend optical wavelengths paradigms for extreme ultraviolet(EUV)and X-ray *** evidence for intrapulse dynamics,however,has been reported at such short wavelengths,where the light-matter interactions are ruled by the sharp absorption edges of core ***,we provide experimental evidence for self-phase modulation of femtosec ond FEL pulses,which we exploit for fine self-driven spectral tun ability by interaction with sub-micrometric foils of selected monoatomic *** the pulse wavelength across the absorption edge,the spectral profile changes from a non-linear spectral blue-shift to a red-shifted *** findings are rationalized account!ng for ultrafast ionization and delayed thermal response of highly excited electrons above and below threshold,respectively.

AIM To present the current state-of-the art of molecular imaging in the management of patients affected by inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).METHODS A systematic review of the literature was performed in order to find important original articles on the role of molecular imaging in the management of patients affected by IBD. The search was updated until February 2016 and limited to articles in *** Fifty-five original articles were included in this review, highlighting the role of single photon emission tomography and positron emission tomography. CONCLUSION To date, molecular imaging represents a useful tool to detect active disease in IBD. However, the available data need to be validated in prospective multicenter studies on larger patient samples.
