Introduction: The vaginal caesarean described since the 19th century remains unknown to many practitioners. The publications available on the subject are rare. The objective of this review is to report the experience of our team in Mali on vaginal cesarean section. Materials and Methods: This is a documentary review of a series of 5 cases on the practice of vaginal caesarean section at the Sominé Dolo Hospital and Reference Health Center of the Sanitary District of Bla in Mali between 2005 and 2022. Results: We performed a vaginal caesarean section on 5 patients in this series. The indications were retroplacental hematoma in 2/5 cases including 1 with a live fetus, eclampsia crisis in 1/5 cases, dystocia on uterine prolapse in 1/5 cases and beating cord prolapse in 1/5 cases. In the 5 cases, the pregnancy was not at term. In 3/5 cases, cesarean section was indicated to save the non-term fetus with a very low possibility of success by classic cesarean section and in 2/5 cases for maternal rescue with fetal death in utero. 2 live newborns were released in satisfactory condition, 1 died after 6 hours of life. Antibiotic therapy was not necessary in the majority of cases. The average length of hospitalization was 3 days. Conclusion: The circumstances of the realization of the vaginal cesarean section in our series of studies remain frequent in the practice of modern obstetrics. The short duration of hospitalization and the low use of antibiotics can contribute to the reduction of the medical cost of caesarean section in low-income countries, such as Mali.

Aims Vegetation succession depends on the availability of suitable prop-agules in the soils,thus knowledge of soil seed banks is essential for formulating effective strategies for restoring the vegetation of degraded *** W National Park,the only trans-boundary bio-sphere reserve in West Africa,is being extensively fragmented and degraded in recent *** aims of this study were to assess the reserve’s soil seed banks,their relationships with standing veg-etation and bundle of disturbances and their potential significance for vegetation *** The size and composition of the above-ground species vegetation were assessed in nine plots of 1 ha each representing a range of habitats with differing disturbance severity(low,intermediate and high).A total of 702 soil samples were taken from three layers(0-3,3-6 and 6-9 cm)and soil seed bank was analyzed using the seed-ling emergence *** Findings Generally,seeds of non-woody taxa dominated in samples from all soil depths and habitats of all disturbance *** mean soil seed density was 17.8,24.4 and 26.3 seeds/dm^(3) in samples from the least,intermediate and most disturbed sites,respectively,and highest in the upper soil layers in all *** results indi-cate that there is limited potential for restoring woody vegetation solely from soil seed banks,and that woody species in the region rely more on recently shed seeds trapped in the standing dead biomass and litter on the ground than soil seed banks for ***,human intervention is needed to accelerate forest recovery,mainly through alleviating anthropogenic impacts on the ecosystem(for instance,avoiding destruction of new seeds by intense fire),and site manipulation to improve environmen-tal conditions for seedling establishment and *** ways of restoring forests than through the soil seed bank(*** seeds collected elsewhere,and planting tree seedlings)could also be relevant.

Experimental and Numerical Study of Energy Losses in a Barbecue Oven in Burkina Faso

This work concerns an experimental and numerical study of energy losses in a typical oven usually used in the agro-food craft sector in Burkina Faso. The experimental results were obtained by infrared thermography of the oven and by monitoring the evolution of the wall temperatures using thermocouples connected to a data acquisition system. These results indicate that the energy losses are mainly through the walls of the oven. The numerical study based on the energy balance and corroborated by the experimental study made it possible to quantify these losses of energy which represents almost half of the fuel used. These results will allow us to work on a new, more efficient oven model for the grilling sector in Burkina Faso.

Automated Recovery of the 2012 Sumatera Aftershock Sequence Using Waveform Cross Correlation

We assess the performance of waveform cross correlation as applied to automatic and interactive processing of the aftershock sequence of the April 11, 2012 Sumatera Ms（IDC） = 8.2 earthquake. The XSEL （cross correlation standard event list） is compared to the REB （Reviewed Event Bulletin） issued by the IDC （International Data Centre）. The latter includes 1,181 aftershocks between April 11 and May 25. To automatically recover the sequence, sixteen aftershocks were selected from the IDC SEL3 （Standard Event List） available on April 13 and used as master events. Waveform templates from only seven IMS （International Monitoring System） array stations with the largest SNR （signal-to-noise ratio） for the main shock were used to calculate cross correlation coefficients. Approximately 620,000 arrivals were detected and then used to build events according to the IDC definition. After conflict resolution between event hypotheses with similar arrivals found by more than one master, all survived hypotheses populated the XSEL. The total number of distinct hypotheses was 4,924, with 2,763 hypotheses not matched by the REB, i.e. potentially new REB events. To evaluate the quality of the XSEL, we randomly selected a representative portion （-15%） from 2,763 hypotheses and reviewed them interactively according to standard IDC rules and guidelines. There were 119 new REB events built and 145 XSEL hypotheses rejected. Several frequency and probability density distributions have been constructed for all detections, the associated detections, the XSEL detections, the detections in the new REB, and rejected events.

Objective:To investigate the antioxidant,antimicrobial,antiplasmodial,acute toxicity and haemolytic activities of methanolic extracts of three *** analysis to determine the phenolic contents was also carried ***:The 2,2-diphenyl-1- picryl-hydrazyl（DPPH） free radical scavenging,NCCLS broth microdilution and Plasmodium Lactate Dehydrogenase（pLDH） assays were used to determine antioxidant,antimicrobial and antiplasmodial activities,*** assay was conducted on A+ human red blood cells and acute toxicity on male Swiss albino *** were quantitatively determined using spectrophotometric ***:The DPPH assay yielded interesting antioxidant activities of methanolic extract of Parinari curatellifolia（***） and Entada africana （***）(IC50 were 0.20±0.01μg/mL and 0.47±0.01μg/mL,respectively).This activity was highly correlated with phenolic contents of *** antimicrobial tests displayed minimal inhibitory concentrations（MICs） values ranging from 0.90 to 1.80 mg/mL for Serratia marcescens （***） the most susceptible bacterial *** value was 1.20 mg/mL for susceptible fungal strains including Mucor rouxi（***）,Fusarium oxyporum（***） and Rhizopus nigricans（***）.pLDH assay showed moderate antiplasmodial activity of Balanites aegyptiaca（***）(IC50= 24.56±3.45μg/mL),however this extract was highly haemolytic and toxic in mice(LD50= 625±128mg/kg).Conclusions:Our results support in part the use of the selected plants in the treatment of microbial *** addition the plant showed interesting antioxidant activity that could be useful in the management of oxidative stress.

Effect of Mineral Fertilization on African Eggplant （Solanum spp.） Productivity in Cote d＇lvoire

Three African eggplant （Solanum spp.） varieties were assessed in six mineral manures doses T ＋ 1/2T, T ＋ 1/4T, T, T - 1/4T, T - 1/2T and without fertilizer, with reference treatment T = 300 kg/ha of NPK 10-18-18 applied before transplanting ＋ a mixture of 100 kg/ha of urea and 200 kg/ha of potassium sulphate at 30, 60 and 90 d after transplanting, to establish fertilization protocol for their cultivation. The experiment was laid out in split-plot design with three replications with varieties constituting the main factor and the fertilizer doses as secondary factor. The main observed parameters were the number of days to 50% flowering, the fruit number and weight per plant, individual fruit weight and fruit yields. As results, the interaction between varieties and fertilizer doses was significantly different only for the number of days to 50% of flowering （P = 0.0078） and the fruit number per plant （P = 0.0001）, while any significant difference was observed for individual fruit weight （P = 0.64）, fruit weight per plant （P = 0.74） and fruit yields （P = 0.74）. The difference among the fertilizers treatments was significant for the number of days to flowering, number of fruits per plant, fruit weight per plant and fruit yield for Aub33K/06Gn and Aub55N/10K, whereas any significant difference was observed for these parameters concerning Aub21N/06Du. Whatever the variety, there was not any significant difference among the fertilizers treatments for the individual fruit weight. For Aub33K/06Gn and Aub55N/10K cultivation, the fertilizers doses T - 1/4T and T - 1/2T are suggested, respectively, while a specific study is proposed for Aub21N/06Du. As perspective, economic studies are proposed to confirm the above suggested choices of fertilizers rates.

Diagnostics of Environmental Risks and Mapping of Surface Water Sensitivity Due to Metal Contamination from Artisanal Gold Mining in Côte d’Ivoire: Case of Angovia, Kokumbo, Hire and Agbaou

The present study performed on the Angovia, Kokumbo, Hire and Agbaou sites consisted of mapping the environmental risks linked to artisanal gold mining activities in C?te d’Ivoire. An inventory was done by observing the different phases of gold extraction and identifying the risks associated with these phases. Using a Geographic Information System (GIS), the representation of the spatial distribution of the pollution risks has been realized from indicator descriptives of the environmental sensitivity (i.e. slope, proximity to the watercourse, soil cover) and the transfer indicator (i.e. rainfall). The analysis of this map showed low sensitivity of mercury (Hg), arsenic (As), copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) measured in the waters of the Hire and Agbaou localities, while moderate sensitivity in Kokumbo surface waters and high sensitivity for those of Angovia locality were observed. Moreover, analysis of Hg, As, Cu and Zn content spatial distribution maps in surface waters revealed that Hg and As come mainly from the artisanal mining activities for most localities. Among these metallic trace elements observed, only the Hg content was above the WHO Limit Values, 1994 (>0.001 mg·L-1). The continuous spread of metallic trace elements in surface water can pose serious health problems for people living around artisanal gold mining sites, hence the need to put in place a protection plan against contamination.

Laterite, Sandstone and Shale as Adsorbents for the Removal of Arsenic from Water

This study aims at exploring arsenite (As (III)) removal from water using naturally available rocks (laterite, sandstone and shale) in C?te d’Ivoire. The study focused on the adsorbent dose, operating pH, contact time, initial arsenite concentration, and modelisation on the removal of arsenite by performing batch adsorption experiment with well water. The optimal dosage related to an initial As (III) concentration of 5 mg/L was about 50, 75 and 145 g/L for laterite, sandstone and shale respectively. Laterite has a better adsorption capacity in comparison to sandstone and shale. On the other hand, kinetic study reveals that the equilibrium times are 5 h for laterite, 3 h for sandstone and 8 h for shale. Results showed that laterite, sandstone and shale could remove the arsenic in groundwater at initial arsenic concentrations below 5 mg/L, satisfying the World Health Organization (WHO) standard for drinking water. Moreover, kinetics study showed that the overall adsorption rate of arsenite was described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model.

Acute Malnutrition and Infection with the Human Immuno-Deficiency Virus (HIV) in Children Followed up at the Pediatrics University Hospital Charles de Gaulle: Evolution of Anthropometric Parameters on Antiretroviral Treatment

Burkina Faso, a country with very scarce resources, undertook to fight against HIV infection. In 2013, according to UNAIDS, 110,000 persons were living in this country with HIV infection. 18,000 children among these persons were under 15. We conducted a retrospective study from January 2003 to December 2012 at the Pediatrics University Hospital Charles De Gaulle, Ouagadougou (CHUP CDG), Burkina Faso. The study aimed at assessing the children’s ponderal growth when under antiretroviral treatment. The children who were under 15 and who had been on antiretroviral treatment for at least 5 years were included in the study. Acute malnutrition concerned children whose height/weight ratio (H/W) was lower at -2 width type (or Z score) of the median of reference regarding age according to WHO. Two categories of malnutrition were outstanding in our study: moderate acute malnutrition, (-3 Z-score ≤ H/W -2 Z-score) and severe acute malnutrition (W/H -3 Z-score). The clinical and paraclinical data recorded during previous consultations were extracted from the ESOPE (Monitoring and follow-up of patients) data basis and exported to the ENA software and SPSS for their analysis. In total, 210 out of 529 children’s cases were considered. These children’s average age was 6.9 years. There were 55.7% of male and 44.3% of female children. HIV1 was found in 97.6% of the children against 2.4% for HIV2. In a 5 year follow-up, 46 among the children, namely 20.4% were on a second line protocol of antiretroviral treatment and 164 among them were still on a first line protocol of antiretroviral treatment. When they were admitted at hospital, 38% of the children showed characteristics of acute malnutrition. 17.8% of these children presented characteristics of severe form of acute malnutrition. During this 5-year follow-up, the average of the W/H index of the children gradually rised from -1.62 Z-score when being admitted to -0.18 Z-score at after a 60-month antiretroviral treatment.
