Lifestyle, Biological Risk Markers, Morbidity and Mortality in a Cohort of Men 33 - 42 Years Old at Baseline, after 24-Year Follow-Up of a Primary Health Care Intervention

Objective: To study changes in lifestyle and biological risk markers in a 24-year follow-up study, and occurrences of cardiovascular diseases (CVD), cancer and total mortality from official registers. Design: A 24-year follow-up survey and register study of a cohort of men 33 - 42 years old, examined with a health profile at baseline. With the health profile based on lifestyle, biological risk markers, self-rated mental stress and mental health, the men were separated in different risk groups. Setting: Primary health care center of Habo in Sweden. Subjects: All 757 men, 33 - 42 years old, and living in the community of Habo in Sweden in 1985. Main Outcome Measures: Lifestyle, biological risk markers, morbidity from CVD and cancer, and total mortality. Results: Smoking and physical activity decreased during follow-up time while alcohol consumption increased. Biological risk markers, except diastolic blood pressure, deteriorated significantly with age. Based on three- lifestyle groups, 16 % of the men had a more favorable lifestyle and 19% had a less favorable life-style at follow-up compared with baseline. The men, who had been classified as high-risk, based on the health profile at baseline, had a significantly higher incidence of CVD and cancer in the register study compared to men in a low-risk group. The baseline non-participant group had a significantly higher incidence of CVD and a higher mortality compared to the low-risk group. Conclusion: A health profile with a combination of lifestyle factors and biological risk markers can already at the age of 33 - 42 years predict incidence of CVD and cancer on group level among men after 24 years.

The Nordic countries, including Greenland, have a long tradition in mining. The industrial minerals sector is expanding in most Nordic countries and extensive development has taken place during the last few years. The main commodities mined are carbonate rocks, quartz, feldspar, apatite, olivine and talc. A number of different types of dimension stones are quarried in all countries. Rock aggregates are increasingly important, replacing sand and gravel aggregate as construction materials in some countries due to the need to protect ground water supplies.

Compressively-strained GaSb nanowires with core-shell heterostructures

GaSb-based nanowires in a gate-all-around geometry are good candidates for binary p-type transistors,however they require the introduction of compressive strain to enhance the transport ***,we for the first time demonstrate epitaxial GaSb-GaASxSb1-x core-shell nanowires with a compressively strained *** axial and hydrostatic strain in GaSb core have been measured by X-ray diffraction(XRD)and Raman scattering,*** optimal sample,almost without plastic relaxation,has an axial strain of-0.88%and a hydrostatic strain of-1.46%,leading to a noticeable effect where the light hole band is calculated to be 33.4 meV above the heavy hole band at the *** valence band feature offers more light holes to contribute the transport process,and thus may provide enhanced hole mobility by reducing both the interband scattering and the hole effective *** results show that lattice-mismatched epitaxial core-shell heterostructures of high quality can also be realized in the promising yet demanding GaSb-based system.

MAX相材料是一类兼具金属和陶瓷特性的三元层状材料,在高温导电、耐磨、耐腐蚀和耐辐照损伤等方面性能优异。目前已经合成出的MAX相材料已有70余种,但A位元素一直局限在ⅢA和ⅣA主族元素,如Al、Si、Ga等,而以副族元素占据A位的MAX相鲜有报道。本研究以Ti_3AlC_2为前驱体,利用熔盐中的A位置换反应,制备出了A位为Zn元素的全新MAX相材料Ti_3ZnC_2。结合X射线衍射、扫描电子显微镜和透射电子显微镜等分析手段对Ti_3ZnC_2的成分和结构进行了确认,并通过密度泛函理论对Ti_3ZnC_2的结构稳定性和晶格参数进行了确定。进一步通过热力学计算对Fe、Co、Ni、Cu等几种元素的A位置换反应进行了预测,发现采用这几种元素的氧化物进行置换反应在热力学上也都具有可行性。本研究所提出的元素置换策略是在保持MAX相六方层状晶体结构的基础上,利用Al、Zn在高温下形成共晶产物实现Zn原子向A层内的迁移,而熔盐介质的存在促进了反应动力学。本方法巧妙地避免了MAX相传统合成过程中竞争相的形成,如M-A合金相,因此可以用于探索更多未知的MAX相材料。

为了进行大样本的老化与记忆的功能磁共振成像(fMRI)研究,研究者设计了言语工作记忆的方案,并且对一组健康青年人进行了施测。字母的呈现方式主要为两种条件:(i)保持,要求被试记住呈现的字母并且能够在4秒的间隔后保持;(ii)操控,被试需要将呈现的字母按字母表的顺序进行转换,并且记住新的顺序。不管是用全脑分析,还是用预先定义的感兴趣区域的分析方法,对 fMRI数据的分析表明本方案诱发了可靠的额叶皮层的激活,且操控条件则引发了更为广泛的激活。背外侧和腹内侧前额叶的激活也表现出了不同特点,操控引发了更多的背外侧前额叶激活。一些皮下区域也得到了激活,特别是以前发现与工作记忆任务相关的一些区域。这说明该工作记忆研究方案适合探索额叶功能的与年龄相关的改变。

MAX phases are gaining attention as precursors of two-dimensional MXenes that are intensively pursued in applications for electrochemical energy ***,we report the preparation of V_(2)SnC MAX phase by the molten salt method.V_(2)SnC is investigated as a lithium storage anode,showing a high gravimetric capacity of 490 mAh g−1 and volumetric capacity of 570 mAh cm^(−3) as well as superior rate performance of 95 mAh g^(−1)(110 mAh cm^(−3))at 50 C,surpassing the ever-reported performance of MAX phase ***-ported by operando X-ray diffraction and density functional theory,a charge storage mechanism with dual redox reaction is proposed with a Sn-Li(de)alloying reaction that occurs at the edge sites of V_(2)SnC particles where Sn atoms are exposed to the electrolyte followed by a redox reaction that occurs at V_(2)C layers with *** study offers promise of using MAX phases with M-site and A-site elements that are redox active as high-rate lithium storage materials.

predictors for failure of stent treatment for benign esophageal perforations- a single center 10-year experience

AIM:To investigate possible predictors for failed selfexpandable metallic stent(SEMS)therapy in consecutive patients with benign esophageal perforationrupture(EPR).METHODS:All patients between 2003-2013 treated for EPR at the Karolinska University Hospital,a tertiary referral center,were studied with regard to initial management with *** with malignancy as an underlying cause and those with anastomotic leakages were *** of the perforation with a covered SEMS was the primary strategy whenever *** therapy failure was defined as a radical change of treatment strategy due to uncontrolled mediastinitis,which in this setting consisted of emergency esophagectomy with end-esophagostomy or death as a consequence of the perforation and subsequent uncontrolled *** and lesion characteristics were analyzed and are presented as median and interquartile *** predictors for failed stent therapy were analyzed with uni-variate logistic regression,while variables with P<0.2 were further analyzed with multi-variate logistic ***:Of the total number of 48 patients presenting with EPR,40 patients(83.3%)were treated with SEMS at the time of admission,with an intention to heal the ***-three patients had Boerhaave’s syndrome(58%),16 had an iatrogenic perforation(40%)and 1 had external trauma to the esophagus(3%).The total in-hospital mortality,including the cases that had other initial treatments(n=8),was10.4%and 7.5%among those who were subjected to the SEMS-based *** 33 of the 40 patients(82.5%)who were treated with stent,the EPR healed without further change in treatment *** classified as treatment success received a SEMS at a median time of 1(1-1)d after the actual EPR,compared to 3(1-10)d among those where the initial treatment failed,P=0.039 in uni-variate analysis and P=0.052 in multi-variate *** other significant factors emerged,indicating an increased risk for failure.S
