Seasonal fluctuation in the secretion of the antioxidant melatonin is not associated with alterations in sperm DNA damage

A high sperm DNA fragmentation index （DFI） is associated with reduced fertility. DFI is influenced by the balance between reactive oxygen species and antioxidants. A circannual variation in melatonin, an antioxidant and free radical scavenger, could thus impact semen quality and fertility. The association between the major melatonin metabolite, urine 6-sulfatoxymelatonin （aMT6s）, and DFI was analyzed in 110 oslo men （south of the Arctic Circle） and 86 Tromsoe men （north of the Arctic Circle）. Two semen analyses, summer and winter, and four urine samples （early/late summer; early/late winter）, were analyzed. The associations between aMT6s in urine and DFI were characterized in a cross-sectional and longitudinal manner using correlation analysis and linear regression. Regardless of season and location, no significant correlations between aMT6s and DFI were observed. The correlation coefficients for associations between changes over time （early winter-early summer） in aMT6s and DFI were for the total cohort： rho = -0.08 （P = 0.322）, for the oslo cohort： rho = -0.07 （P = 0.485）, and for the Tromsoe cohort： rho = -0.14 （P = 0.273）, respectively. Similar results were seen when comparing late winter and late summer. There was no any statistically significant correlation between changes over time in aMT6s and DFI for men with DFI below and above the median value （10%）, respectively. The seasonal variation in melatonin excretion seems not to have any impact on DFh

Study of Wave and Tide Influence on Slope Stability of the Navigation Channel of Tianjin Port

The Tianjin Port is the largest man-made port in China. Since the navigation channel of the Tianjin Port is constructed by dredging, a very important problem, as many people concerned, is the submarine slope stability. As the environment on land is different from that in submarine, it is necessary to evaluate the influence of the environmental loading, such as wave and tide, on the stability of navigation channel slope. In the present study, based on the observed results, the characteristics of the navigation channel slope are summarized, and the causes of creating the special slope shape are analyzed. The ioles of waves and tides are evaluated, and failure mechanics are discussed to helq us predict what will happen in the future.

Reduced peripheral vascular reactivity in refractory angina pectoris:Effect of enhanced external counterpulsation

We apply variational autoencoders(VAE)to X-ray diffraction(XRD)data analysis on both simulated and experimental thin-film *** show that crystal structure representations learned by a VAE reveal latent information,such as the structural similarity of textured diffraction *** other artificial intelligence(AI)agents are effective at classifying XRD data into known phases,a similarly conditioned VAE is uniquely effective at knowing what it doesn’t know:it can rapidly identify data outside the distribution it was trained on,such as novel phases and *** capabilities demonstrate that a VAE is a valuable AI agent for aiding materials discovery and understanding XRD measurements both‘on-the-fly’and during post hoc analysis.

Electrochemical probing into the active sites of graphitic-layer encapsulated iron oxygen reduction reaction electrocatalysts

The graphitic-layer encapsulated iron-containing nanoparticles(G@Fe) have been proposed as a potential type of active and stable non-precious metal electrocatalysts(NPMCs) for the oxygen reduction reaction(oRR). However, the contribution of the encapsulated components to the oRR activity is still unclear compared with the well-recognized surface coordinated FeN_x/C structure. Using the strong complexing effect of the iron component with anions, cyanide(CN^-) in alkaline and thiocyanate(SCN^-) in acidic media, the metal containing active sites are electrochemically probed. Three representative catalysts are chosen for a comparison including the as-prepared encapsulated G@Fe, commercial Fe/N/C catalyst with iron–nitrogen coordinated surface functionalities and molecular iron phthalocyanine(Fe Pc) containing well-defined structures and compositions. It was found that all samples showed significant shifts of half-wave potentials indicating that surface Fe coordinated sites in all cases. The G@Fe catalyst showed the weakest poisoning effect(the lowest shifts of half-wave potential) compared to the Fe/N/C and Fe Pc catalysts in both electrolytes. These results could be explained that the encapsulated iron components influence the FeN_x/C and/or N_xC surface functionality.

A graph autoencoder network to measure the geometric similarity of drainage networks in scaling transformation

Similarity measurement has been a prevailing research topic geographic information *** similarity measurement inin scaling transformation(GSM_ST)is critical to ensure spatial data quality while balancing detailed information with distinctive ***,GSM_ST is an uncertain problem due to subjective spatial cognition,global and local concerns,and geometric *** rule-based methods considering multiple consistent conditions require subjective adjustments to characteristics and weights,leading to poor robustness in addressing GSM_*** study proposes an unsupervised representation learning framework for automated GSM_ST,using a Graph Autoencoder Network(GAE)and drainage networks as an *** framework involves constructing a drainage graph,designing the GAE architecture for GSM_ST,and using Cosine similarity to measure similarity based on the GAE-derived drainage embeddings in different *** perform extensive experiments and compare methods across 71 drainage networks duringfive scaling *** results show that the proposed GAE method outperforms other methods with a satisfaction ratio of around 88%and has strong ***,our proposed method also can be applied to other scenarios,such as measuring similarity between geographical entities at different times and data from different datasets.
