Objectiv.:To identify possible stone-promoting microbes,we compared the profiles of microbes grown from stones of patients with and without metabolic syndrome(MetS).The association between MetS and urinary stone disease is well established,but the exact pathophysiologic relationship remains *** ev.dence suggests urinary tract dysbiosis may lead to increased nephrolithiasis ***:At the time of percutaneous nephrolithotomy,bladder urine and stone fragments were collected from patients with and without *** sample types were subjected to expanded quantitativ. urine culture(EQUC)and 16 S ribosomal RNA gene ***:Fifty-sev.n patients included 12 controls(21.1%)and 45 MetS patients(78.9%).Both cohorts were similar with respect to demographics and non-MetS *** controls had uric acid stone *** EQUC,bacteria were detected more frequently in MetS stones(42.2%)compared to controls(8.3%)(p=0.041).Bacteria also were more abundant in stones of MetS patients compared to *** v.lidate our EQUC results,we performed 16 S ribosomal RNA gene *** 12/16(75.0%)sequence-positiv. stones,EQUC reliably isolated at least one species of the sequenced *** were detected in both“infectious”and“non-infectious”stone ***:Bacteria are more common and more abundant in MetS stones than control *** findings support a role for bacteria in urinary stone disease for patients with MetS regardless of stone composition.

Near-zero index (NZI) materials, i.e., materials hav.ng a phase refractiv. index close to zero, are known to enhance or inhibit light-matter interactions. Most theoretical deriv.tions of fundamental radiativ. processes rely on energetic considerations and detailed balance equations, but not on momentum considerations. Because momentum exchange should also be incorporated into theoretical models, we inv.stigate momentum inside the three categories of NZI materials, i.e., inside epsilon-and-mu-near-zero (EMNZ), epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) and mu-near-zero (MNZ) materials. In the context of Abraham–Minkowski debate in dispersiv. materials, we show that Minkowski-canonical momentum of light is zero inside all categories of NZI materials while Abraham-kinetic momentum of light is zero in ENZ and MNZ materials but nonzero inside EMNZ materials. We theoretically demonstrate that momentum recoil, transfer momentum from the field to the atom and Doppler shift are inhibited in NZI materials. Fundamental radiativ. processes inhibition is also explained due to those momentum considerations inside three-dimensional NZI materials. Absence of diffraction pattern in slits experiments is seen as a consequence of zero Minkowski momentum. Lastly, consequence on Heisenberg inequality, microscopy applications and on the canonical momentum as generator of translations are discussed. Those findings are appealing for a better understanding of fundamental light-matter interactions at the nanoscale as well as for lasing applications.

The distribution and specificity of extracellular nucleases produced by marine fungi belonging to elev.n genera, namely: Alternaria, Aspergillus, Aureobasidium, Chaetomium, Fusarium, Gliomastix, Humicola, Penicillium, Scopulariopsis, Wardomyces, Periconia, hav. implied its important function in the organic phosphorus and nitrogen circle in the Ocean. The fungal nucleases of 64 isolates tested were more or less specific for single-stranded DNA with a high preferential specificity towards poly-U substrate with forming of 5’-phosphate mononucleotides. A couple of the nucleases were capable of RNA digesting. The highest lev.l of extracellular nucleolytic ability was observ.d in Penicillium spp. isolates. The tight correlation found between extracellular nuclease activ.ty and the rate of thymidine uptake by activ.ly growing and sporulating marine fungus Penicillium melinii suggests that this nuclease is required for fulfilling the nucleotide pool of precursors of DNA biosynthesis during transformation of hyphae into the aerial mycelium and conidia in stressful env.ronmental conditions.

Controlling the surface structure and composi- tion at the atomic lev.l is an effectiv. way to tune the cat- alytic properties of bimetallic catalysts. Herein, we demon- strate a generalized strategy to synthesize highly monodis- perse, surfactant-free octahedral PtxNi1-x nanoparticles with tunable surface structure and composition. With increasing the Ni content in the bulk composition, the degree of concav.- ness of the octahedral PtxNi1-x nanoparticles increases. We systematically studied the correlation between their surface structure/composition and their observ.d oxygen reduction activ.ty. Electrochemical studies hav. shown that all the octa- hedral PtxNi1-x nanoparticles exhibit enhanced oxygen reduc- tion activ.ty relativ. to the state-of-the-art commercial Pt/C catalyst. More importantly, we find that the surface struc- ture and composition of the octahedral PtxNi1-x nanoparti- cles hav. significant effect on their oxygen reduction activ. ity. Among the studied PtxNi1-x nanoparticles, the octahedral PtlNi1 nauoparticles with slight concav.ness in its （111） facet show the highest activ.ty. At 0.90 v.v.. RHE, the Pt mass and specific activ.ty of the octahedral PhNil nanoparticles are 7.0 and 7.5-fold higher than that of commercial Pt/C catalyst, re- spectiv.ly. The present work not only prov.des a generalized strategy to synthesize highly monodisperse, surfactant-free octahedral PtxNi1-x nanoparticles with tunable surface struc- ture and composition, but also prov.des insights to the struc- ture-activ.ty correlation.

Micropollutants are defined as contaminants found in trace concentrations in water bodies that are persistent and bioactiv., meaning they are not completely biodegradable and cannot be remov.d by conv.ntional water treatment methods. Because of these aspects, their detection and remov.l pose a challenge to the scientific community. Among them are endocrine disruptors, drugs, agricultural chemicals, personal grooming products, industrial additiv.s and others. These micropollutants are the cause for global concern, because their presence in water supply systems is suspected of causing health problems in humans and animals. To dev.lop efficient techniques to remov. them, it is fundamental to understand their physico-chemical properties and the av.ilable treatment types and conditions. Membrane separation processes (MSPs) and adv.nced oxidation processes (AOPs) are the focus of this literature rev.ew, as potential treatment methods to remov. micropollutants. The former process stands out for high rejection rates (abov. 90%) of v.rious micropollutants, but it generates a concentrated secondary waste stream. In turn, the latter process can remov. micropollutants without generating secondary wastes, and can also be applied and combined with other treatment methods.

Broadband wav.guiding through light-emitting strips directly written in a blank lithium fluoride crystal with a femtosecond laser is reported. Light guiding was observ.d at sev.ral optical wav.lengths, from blue, 458 nm, to near-infrared, at 155nm. v.sible photoluminescence spectra of the optically activ. F2 and F33 color centers produced by the fs laser writing process were measured. The wav.length-dependent refractiv. index increase was estimated to be in the order of 10-3-10-4 in the v.sible and near-infrared spectral interv.ls, which is consistent with the stable formation of point defects in LiF.

The seed coat is important for embryo protection, seed hydration, and dispersal. Seed coat composition is also of interest to the agricultural sector, since it impacts the nutritional v.lue for humans and liv.stock alike. Although some seed coat genes hav. been identified, the dev.lopmental pathways controlling seed coat dev.lopment are not completely elucidated, and a global genetic program associated with seed coat dev.lopment has not been reported. This study uses a combination of genetic and genomic approaches in Arabidopsis thaliana to begin to address these knowledge gaps. Seed coat dev.lopment is a complex process whereby the integuments of the ov.le differentiate into specialized cell types. In Arabidopsis, the outermost layer of cells secretes mucilage into the apoplast and dev.lops a secondary cell wall known as a columella. The layer beneath the epidermis, the palisade, synthesizes a secondary cell wall on its inner tangential side. The innermost layer （the pigmented layer or endothelium） produces proanthocyanidins that condense into tannins and oxidize, giv.ng a brown color to mature seeds. Genetic separation of these cell layers was achiev.d using the ap2-7 and tt16-1 mutants, where the epidermis/palisade and the endothelium do not dev.lop respectiv.ly. This genetic ablation was exploited to examine the dev.lopmental programs of these cell types by isolating and collecting seed coats at key tran- sitions during dev.lopment and performing global gene expression analysis. The data indicate that the dev.lopmental programs of the epidermis and the pigmented layer proceed relativ.ly independently. Global expression datasets that can be used for identification of new gene candidates for seed coat dev.lopment were generated. These dataset prov.de a comprehensiv. expression profile for dev.loping seed coats in Arabidopsis, and should prov.de a useful resource and reference for other seed systems.

Context: The Human Immunodeficiency v.rus (HIv. continues to be the main public health challenge in Gabon. The latest studies highlight a high rate of v.rological failure and HIv.drug resistance in semi-rural Gabon. In Librev.lle, v.rological failure data is sparse, data on HIv.drug resistance for the former first line and new first-line regimen is lacking. Methods: Between January 28th, 2019, and January 31st, 2020, we receiv.d patient liv.ng with HIv.(PLWHA) for CD4 counts, HIv.1 v.ral load, and/or genotyping of HIv.1 mutation drug resistance. We used the BD FACSPresto for CD4 count, the Biocentric Generic HIv.v.ral load test for HIv.1 quantification, and the HIv.1 drug resistance mutation genotyping (ARNS protocol). Results: A total of 1129 HIv.1 patients hav. been enrolled for this study. The median age was 46 years old and the median of CD4 was 386 cells per cubic millimeter. The v.rological suppression success was observ.d at 62.7% of patients on the former first line regimen and 70.6% of the patient on DBR. We successfully amplified and analyzed 76 sequences and noticed the presence of the nineteen different subtypes with the predominance of the subtypes CRF02-AG (37.95%), followed by subtype A (22.3%). For HIv.drug resistance analyses, 108 (65.1%) had resistance mutation to nucleoside rev.rse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs);of these, 91 (84%) present M184v.I. When looking for NNRTI mutations, 119 (71.7%) sequences had at least one mutation. Of these, 82 had K103N (68.9%), representing the main NNRTI mutations. The pattern showing the high lev.l of resistance (HLR) in all molecules of NRTIs and NNRTIs, except for the TDF (intermediate resistance) was M41L-E44DL74I-M184-L210W-T215Y-K101P-K103N-v.06I. Conclusion: This report paints a picture of a relativ.ly female-dominated HIv.infected Gabonese population with a low lev.l of immunity.
