Adaptability and Stability Analysis of Soybean Genotypes Using Toler and Centroid Methods

Soybean (Glycine max L. Merr.) adaptation to new environments has been hard to predict based on maturity group. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of 14 soybean genotypes, from the Soybean Breeding Program of the Federal University of Uberlandia, in their adaptive capacity and seed yield stability at 3 locations and 2 growing seasons. For the adaptability and stability analysis the Toler and Centroid methods were used;5 genotypic groups were identified in the first whereas 4 groups were identified in the latter. By the Toler method group A was composed by 4 genotypes, UFU-001, UFU-003, UFU-0010, and UFU-001. They showed a convex pattern of adaptability and stability. In contrast, the genotypes UFU-008 and UFU-0013 were classified in Group E with a concave pattern of adaptability and stability. Regarding results from the Centroid method, the Genotype UFU-002, with higher seed yield than average, was the only genotype in Ideotype VI with moderate adaptability to favorable environments. In contrast, 10 genotypes were included in the Ideotype V, of medium general adaptability. The genotypes UFU-001, UFU-002, UFU-006, UFU-0010, and UFU-0011 were recommended for use in the Brazilian Cerrado growing region. These genotypes had high seed yield potential in high quality environments.

Evaluation of Biodegradation in Aqueous Medium of Poly(Hydroxybutyrate-Co-Hydroxyvalerate)/Carbon Nanotubes Films in Respirometric System

Biodegradable polymers have been increasingly used for scientific and commercial applications because they are similar to some conventional thermoplastics and exhibit the ability of ***(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate)(PHBV)nanocomposites films with 1 and 2 wt% of carbon nanotubes(CNT)were prepared by solution mixing,followed by solvent *** this work,PHBV/CNT nanocomposites were submitted to biodegradation in an aqueous medium for 34 days through a respirometric ***,the PHBV films were analyzed by the CO2 production and mineralization as a response of a microbial attack,which was monitored by back titration during all the *** films were also characterized by measuring the weight loss;crystallinity was evaluated by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC)and the surface morphology by scanning electron microscopy(SEM).By analyzing the weight loss of the films,it was observed that adding CNT increases the resistance to biodegradation *** obtained values of CO2 production and mineralization of the samples,as well as the values of weight loss,showed that the biodegradation of PHBV/CNT nanocomposites was minor in comparison to neat *** addition of CNT in PHBV matrix influences the surface morphology,causing the presence of cavities and an increase of roughness.

Background Congenital heart diseases(CHD)are the most common type of birth defects,affecting millions of newborns every year;no prevalence data are available in S?o Paulo State,Brazil's most populous *** objective is to identify trends in prevalence and risk factors for CHD in Sao Paulo State,*** We developed a population-based study to estimate the CHD trend of prevalence in recent years,stratified by maternal age and geographical clusters,using all cases of CHD identified by the Live Births Information System(SINASC-Sistema de Informa??o Sobre Nascidos Vivos)from January 1,2005,to December 31,*** calculated the trends of prevalence,the regression coefficient(β),the annual percent change(APC),and 95%confidence interval using the Prais-Winsten regression model,with the Durbin-Watson *** We found 10,594 cases of CHD among 8,536,101 live births(LB),a prevalence of 12.4/10,000 *** was no difference in the sex distribution;they are primarily Caucasian(60.2%),75.2%born at term,and 74.4%weight>2500 g,66.9%of births were by cesarean section.S?o Paulo State presented an increasing CHD trend of prevalence(APC=18.9%).The highest CHD prevalence rate was in mothers aged≥35 years(22.2/10,000 LB).There were 12,271 specific congenital heart defects among 10,594 patients(1.16 CHD/patient).Atrial septal defect has the highest number of cases(3835),with a prevalence of 4.49/10,000 LB,corresponding to 31.3%of all *** CHD had an increasing prevalence trend in recent years,being highest in S?o Paulo City and≥35-year mothers.

Benefits of heterospecific aggregation on necromass: in fluence of temperature, group density, and compositi on on fitness-related traits

Necrophagous blowflies(Diptera:Calliphoridae)such as Calliphora vicina,a cold-tolerant species,and L ucilia serie ata,a warm-adapted species,are pioneer carrion・*** these two species have different temperature preferences,larvae aggregate actively and often feed simultaneously on *** hypothesis to be tested was that *** benefits from the association with *** at lower temperatures(i.e.,15℃)and that *** derives greater benefits from this association at higher temperatures(i.e.,28℃).Therefore,both species were raised at these two constant temperatures from first instars to adults under three different conditions:monospecific low-density,monospecific high-density,and heterospecific *** time until larval migration,surface area of puparia,and survival rates were determined for each *** between these fitness-related traits were found between species,temperatures,group densities,and species *** 28°C,*** larvae bred in heterospecific groups migrated significantly earlier and in higher numbers than that under same density conspecific con・ditions,with a lower mortality *** 15°C,both species benefited from high-density heterospecific associations,expressed by faster development and larger *** conclusion,necrophagous larvae benefited from heterospecific aggregations at suboptima 1 temperatures by adapting their migration time to that of the faster *** temperature changes throughout the day and over the year,the beneficiary of such a collective association also *** costs involved and deviations to the temperature-size rule highlight the complexity of the carrion ecosystem.

Dental stem cells(DSCs)are self-renewable cells that can be obtained easily from dental tissues,and are a desirable source of autologous stem *** use of DSCs for stem cell transplantation therapeutic approaches is attractive due to their simple isolation,high plasticity,immunomodulatory properties,and multipotential *** appropriate scaffolds loaded with favorable biomolecules,such as growth factors,and cytokines,can improve the proliferation,differentiation,migration,and functional capacity of DSCs and can optimize the cellular morphology to build tissue constructs for specific *** enormous variety of scaffolds have been used for tissue engineering with *** these,the scaffolds that particularly mimic tissue-specific micromilieu and loaded with biomolecules favorably regulate angiogenesis,cell-matrix interactions,degradation of extracellular matrix,organized matrix formation,and the mineralization abilities of DSCs in both in vitro and in vivo *** represent a promising cell source for tissue engineering,especially for tooth,bone,and neural tissue *** purpose of the present review is to summarize the current developments in the major scaffolding approaches as crucial guidelines for tissue engineering using DSCs and compare their effects in tissue and organ regeneration.

By establishing a critical dialogue with the observations of David Damrosch in Comparing the Literatures:Literary Studies in a Global Age concerning the challenges posed to Comparatism by the current state of the discipline,the question that we will address in the present work is,above all,a position on what it means to make a comparative study in a scenario marked by the reemergence of the phenomenon of world literature in literary *** directing our attention to The Longman Anthology of World Literature and The Norton Anthology of World Literature,we were able to see how both still describe an unequal system of legitimation and aesthetic configuration based on a Eurocentric division between the"inside"and the"outside."And it is precisely in the ethical and political implications of this process of opening"'to the world that lies our proposal for approaching world literature.

Higher education has been in a financially precarious position for many years –facing either a total transformation or elimination. Tuition increases and fewercollege-age students from shifting demographics are primary reasons for thefinancial distress. Alternative financial stability models have assumed linearvariable relationships and improperly calculate the probability of *** have historically relied upon models such as those developed byEdmit and the Department of Education which are inadequate at separatingfinancially sound from unsound universities. We used an Automated MachineLearning approach utilizing multiple models to explain the relationship betweenmetrics and the probability of default/closure allowing for more informedmanagerial decisions. This research, although applied to the homogeneousgroup of small liberal arts universities, can be applied to online and stateuniversities and will allow the opportunity to take preventive steps to mitigatethe likelihood of closing due to financial distress.

Zoology, Celibacy, and the Heterosexual Imperative： Notes on Teaching Lu Xun＇s ＂Loner＂ as a Queer Text

This essay reflects on the reception of Lu Xun＇s short story ＂The Loner＂（Gudu zhe, alternately translated as ＂The Lone Wolf, The Misanthrope,＂ and ＂The Isolate＂） in American classrooms, where students have sometimes wondered whether that character might be read as ＂queer.＂ It suggests that the title character＇s unusual and self-imposed celibacy is probably best explained by his belief, in a very general sense, in the foundational values of zoology as practiced in Japan and China in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and thus that the story may be a better gateway to understanding the ways in which Lu Xun envisioned the mixed impact of new political economies on private life than a source text for queer studies. At the same time, however, this essay emphasizes that in ＂The Loner,＂ as elsewhere, accounting for the ＂heterosexual imperative＂ of early zoology （e.g., with its emphases on animal husbandry, propagation, reproduction） can have meaningful consequences for ＂queering＂ interpretations of received texts from literature, history of science, and beyond.
