Effect of multiaxial deformation on structure, mechanical properties, and corrosion resistance of a Mg-Ca alloy

This article prov.des a report on the effect of multiaxial deformation(MAD) on the structure, texture, mechanical characteristics, and corrosion resistance of the Mg-0.8(wt.)% Ca alloy. MAD was carried out on the alloy in the as-cast and the annealed states in multiple passes, with a stepwise decrease in the deformation temperature from 450 to 250 ℃ in 50 ℃ steps. The cumulativ. true strain at the end of the process was 22.5. In the case of the as-cast alloy, this resulted in a refined microstructure characterized by an av.rage grain size of 2.7 μm and a fraction of high-angle boundaries(HABs) of 57.6%. The corresponding v.lues for the annealed alloy were 2.1 μm and 68.2%. The predominant mechanism of structure formation was associated with discontinuous and continuous dynamic recrystallization acting in concert. MAD was also shown to lead to the formation of a rather sharp prismatic texture in the as-cast alloy, whilst in the case of the annealed one the texture was weakened. A displacement of the basal poles {00.4} from the periphery to the center of a pole figure was observ.d. These changes in the microstructure and texture gav. rise to a significant improv.ment of the mechanical characteristics of the alloy. This included an increase of the ultimate tensile strength reaching 308 MPa for annealed material and 264 MPa for the as-cast one in conjunction with a twofold increase in ductility. A further important result of the MAD processing was a reduction of the rate of electrochemical corrosion, as indicated by a significant decrease in the corrosion current density in both microstructural states of the alloy studied.

The aim of this work was a study of the functional activ.ty of neutrophils and peripheral blood monocytes in rats with the transplanted Walker carcinosarcoma as potential predictors of the sensitiv.ty of this tumor to doxorubicin treatment. This study prov.des an ev.dence that such indices of the functional activ.ty of circulating phagocytes of the tumor-bearing rats as the quantity and the phagocytosis intensity of monocytes, as well as the intensity of ROS production by monocytes and neutrophils, may reflect the degree of sensitiv.ty of the tumor to doxorubicin. So it was shown that the growth of the resistant tumor caused a significant increase of the number of circulating phagocytic cells and the intensity of phagocytosis by more than 100% (p v.riant of the tumor. The ability of blood mono-cytes and neutrophils of rats with a resistant tumor to produce ROS was also significantly different from that in intact rats and animals with the parental carcinosarcoma v.riant. The predictiv. v.lue of these indices is especially important in the dynamic monitoring of the dev.lopment of tumor drug resistance during long-term cancer chemotherapy. Considering the standard 2 - 3 week interv.l between the courses of cancer therapy and the short lifetime of circulating phagocytes, an assessment of the indices of their functional activ.ty before each subsequent course can be considered as a pretreatment assessment. Meanwhile, further studies are needed to determine the spectrum of malignant neoplasms for which the degree of tumor drug resistance correlates with the functional activ.ty of circulating phagocytes.

Open label trial of daily oral pill of v.5 Immunitor (v.) was conducted in 48 treatment-failed TB patients on palliativ. support consisting of isoniazid (H) and rifampicin (R). After 1 month 62.5% of v.-treated patients experienced negativ. sputum smear conv.rsion (P 2 respectiv.ly (P v.rse effects or reactiv.tion of disease due to immune interv.ntion were seen at any time. v. is safe and in combination with a simple two-drug regimen was highly effectiv. as an immune adjunct to produce fav.rable outcome among treatment-failed and/ or drug-resistant TB patients.

In this paper, it studied parameters of low-temperature plasma (LTP) used in systems for cleaning waste gas. LTP created by positiv. nanosecond corona discharges, generated by high v.ltage pulses with a rise time of 50 ns, duration up to 400 ns, an amplitude up to 90 kv.and pulses repetition 50 - 1000 Hz in coaxial electrode system with gap space 3 - 10 cm through which mov.ng air with linear v.locity v.= 0.01 to 10 m/s. It was found that parameters of LTP depended on the flow v.locity. The results of probe measurements of streamers current showed that on the abov. gaps and pulse parameters took place streamer breakdown with av.rage field strength less than 10 kv.cm. This limits the energy input into the gas v.a a streamer corona and, accordingly, productiv.ty of cleaning plants.
