Complications of Ziv-Aflibercept in Choroidal and Retinal Vascular Diseases

Introduction: The modern ophthalmology trends are changing rapidly every day with the introduction of much newer studies and research. Numerous anti-vascular endothelial growth factors (VEGF) are utilized as the mainstay in the treatment of intraocular vascular pathologies. The rationale of this study is to add to the literature regarding the safety and efficacy profile of the ziv-aflibercept as there is insubstantial data in patients with intraocular vascular pathologies being treated with this injection with prime focus on the complications of the injection. Materials and Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted at Opthalmology Department, Lahore General Hospital, Lahore between 14 August 2018 and 23 December 2019. Patients with choroidal and retinal vascular diseases like diabetic macular edema (DME), age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and retinal vein occlusion (RVO) who had no active infection of eye and had no history of myocardial infarction or cerebrovascular accident were added in this study. Results: Best-corrected visual acuity was significantly improved at 4, 8, and 12 weeks as compared to the baseline (p Conclusion: The use of ziv-aflibercept injection via intravitreal route under aseptic conditions for choroidal and retinal vascular diseases is effective as well as safe with mild and treatable ocular side effects.

氢能具有较高的能量密度且污染极小,近年来受到研究者的广泛关注。生产低成本的氢能用于燃料电池对满足能源需求具有重要意义。采用可再生的绿色生物质能源制备甲烷,并采用催化甲烷水蒸气重整制氢的方法值得探索和研究。在本项研究中,采用等体积浸渍法分别制备了 Ni/γ-Al2O3催化剂以及低成本改性Ni-Al2O3/MgO/CaO和NiLa-Al2C3/MgO/CaO催化剂,探究其对甲烷转化率以及氢收率的影响。并采用BET、XRD以及TPR等表征手段探究了催化剂的物化性能。结果表明这些催化剂在600℃-750℃的温度区间内对甲烷水蒸气重整制氢都有较高的效率及稳定性。其中,改性NiLa-Al2O3/MgO/CaO催化剂在热耗较少的低温条件下维持了连续8h的高催化活性,并达到了 98.60%的转化效率。这说明NiLa-Al2C3/MgO/CaO是一种经济、有效、高效的甲烷重整制氢催化剂,达到了生产及运行成本低,效率高的目的。

Tobacco plant: A possible key to Ebola vaccine

In 2014, the World Health Organization was notified of an outbreak of a communicable disease characterized by fever, severe diarrhea, vomiting, and a high fatality rate in Guinea. Virologic investigation identified Zaire ebolavirus (EBOV) as the causative agent. Approximately 30 years after the first epidemic, there is no vaccine or therapeutic medication approved to counter the Ebola virus. In this review, it emphasized that plant based antibodies can be an effective cure to Ebola hemorrhagic fever. Genetically modified Nicotiana benthamiana is used to manufacture ZMapp drug by Kentucky BioProcessing. ZMapp three-antibody cocktail binds to the Ebola virus to deactivate it and provides simulated immune response against sugar-tagged proteins on the outside of the Ebola virus, which had verified efficacy against Ebola infection in nonhuman primates and also successfully treated two American medical workers infected with Ebola virus disease.

Plants from the start are being used for the welfare of human and animals. About 25,000 biological active compounds are reported by different scientists. Plants itself are a complete treatment bioagent. People are still using plants and their decoction for different diseases. Saussurea lappa Clarke is the member of family Compositae. This plant is famous due to its high medical importance. The plant is commonly named as Kuth root or costus and has wide use for anticancer, antiulcer, hepatoprotective, anti-viral, anticonvulsant, antiarthritic, activities. Biologically active substance of in this plant is lactone cynaropicrin, dehydrocostus, germacrene,?lappadilactone. This plant can be used to extract such bioactive compounds which can help the scientist to discover new and potential drugs. Due to such chemical composition and medicinal importance this review has been prepared for the awareness of the people to conserve their medicinal plants which can be used for potential drug discovery.

Photo Thermal Generator of Selective Radiation Structural and Energetic Features

Photo thermoelectric generators (PTEGs) are solid state heat engines that generate electricity from concentrated sunlight. In this paper, we developed a novel detailed balance model for PTEGs and applied this model to both state-of-the-art and idealized materials. This model uses thermoelectric compatibility theory to provide analytic solutions to device efficiency in idealized materials with temperature-dependent properties. The method for the theoretical calculation of the mechanism of absorption and refraction of light radiation of a selected wavelength in the volume of a photoelectric converter and the design of an effective photo thermal converter with a fixed slit are presented in the article. Direct- and non-direct-electron transitions from the valence band to the conduction band are analyzed. The possibility of optimal distribution of the light spectrum on the frontal surfaces of the solar cell and thermoelectric converter is shown. According to the results of experimental studies, a conclusion was made that the efficiency of a photo converter increases by a factor of three as compared with analogues, but operating without a thermal converter.
