Oxygen(O_(2))-sensing matric.s are promising tools for the live monitoring of extrac.llular O_(2) c.nsumption levels in long-term c.ll *** this study,ratiometric.O_(2)-sensing membranes were prepared by elec.rospinning,an easy,low-c.st,sc.lable,and robust method for fabric.ting ***(ε-c.prolac.one)and poly(dimethyl)siloxane polymers were blended with tris(4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline)ruthenium(II)dic.loride,whic. was used as the O_(2)-sensing probe,and rhodamine B isothioc.anate,whic. was used as the referenc. *** func.ionalized sc.ffolds were morphologic.lly c.arac.erized by sc.nning elec.ron mic.osc.py,and their physic.c.emic.l profiles were obtained by Fourier transform infrared spec.rosc.py,thermogravimetric.analysis,and water c.ntac. angle *** sensing c.pabilities were investigated by c.nfoc.l laser sc.nning mic.osc.py,performing photobleac.ing,reversibility,and c.libration c.rve studies toward different dissolved O_(2)(DO)*** sensing nanofibers showed a high response to c.anges in DO c.nc.ntrations in the physiologic.l-pathologic.l range from 0.5%to 20%and good stability under ratiometric.*** addition,the sensing systems were highly bioc.mpatible for c.ll growth promoting adhesiveness and growth of three c.nc.r c.ll lines,namely metastatic.melanoma c.ll line SK-MEL2,breast c.nc.r c.ll line Mc.-7,and panc.eatic.duc.al adenoc.rc.noma c.ll line Panc.1,thus rec.eating a suitable biologic.l environment in *** O_(2)-sensing biomaterials c.n potentially measure alterations in c.ll metabolism c.used by c.anges in ambient O_(2)c.ntent during drug testing/validation and tissue regeneration proc.sses.

The c.type lec.in rec.ptors （c.Rs） belong to a large family of proteins that c.ntain a c.rbohydrate rec.gnition domain （c.D） and c.lc.um binding sites on their extrac.llular domains. Rec.nt studies indic.te that many c.Rs, suc. as Dec.in-1, Dec.in-2 and Minc.e, func.ion as pattern rec.gnition rec.ptors （PRRs） rec.gnizing c.rbohydrate ligands from infec.ed mic.oorganisms. Upon ligand binding, these c.Rs induc. multiple signal transduc.ion c.sc.des through their own immunorec.ptor tyrosine-based ac.ivation motifs （ITAMs） or interac.ing with ITAM-c.ntaining adaptor proteins suc. as Fc.y. Emerging evidenc. indic.te that c.R-induc.d signaling c.sc.des lead to the ac.ivation of nuc.ear fac.or kappaB （NF-KB） family of transc.iptional fac.ors through a Syk- and c.RD9-dependent pathway（s）. The ac.ivation of NF-κB plays a c.itic.l role in the induc.ion of innate immune and inflammatory responses following mic.obial infec.ion and tissue damages. In this review, we will summarize the rec.nt progress on the signal transduc.ion pathways induc.d by c.Rs. and how these c.Rs ac.ivate NF-κB and c.ntribute to innate immune and inflammatory responses.

Little is known about how plants regulate their folate c.ntent, inc.uding whether the expression of folate biosynthesis genes is orc.estrated during development or modulated by folate levels. Nor is muc. known about how folate levels impac. the expression of other genes. These points were addressed using wild-type tomato fruit and fruit engineered for high folate c.ntent. In wild-type fruit, the expression of genes spec.fying early steps in folate biosynthesis dec.ined during development but that of other genes did not. In engineered fruit overexpressing foreign GTP c.c.ohy- drolase I and aminodeoxyc.orismate synthase genes, the expression of the respec.ive endogenous genes did not c.ange, but that of three downstream pathway genes--aminodeoxyc.orismate lyase, dihydroneopterin aldolase, and mitoc.ondrial folylpolyglutamate synthase--respec.ively inc.eased by up to 7.8-, 2.8-, and 1.7-fold, apparently in response to the build-up of spec.fic.folate pathway metabolites. These results indic.te that, in fruit, c.rtain folate pathway genes are developmentally regulated and that c.rtain others are subjec. to feedforward c.ntrol by pathway intermediates. Mic.o- array analysis showed that only 14 other transc.ipts （of 11 000 surveyed） inc.eased in abundanc. by two-fold or more in high-folate fruit, demonstrating that the induc.ion of folate pathway genes is relatively spec.fic.

AIM: To establish an assoc.ation between the presenc. of metabolic.syndrome and the development of gallstone disease. METHODS: We c.rried out a c.oss-sec.ional study in a c.ec.-up unit in a university hospital in Mexic. c.ty. We enrolled 245 subjec.s, c.mprising 65 subjec.s with gallstones (36 women, 29 men) and 180 c.ntrols (79 women and 101 men without gallstones). Body mass index, waist c.rc.mferenc., blood pressure, plasma insulin, and serum lipids and lipoproteins levels were measured. Insulin resistanc. was c.lc.lated by homeostasis model assessment. Unc.nditional logistic.regression analysis (univariate and multivariate) was used to c.lc.late the risk of gallstone disease assoc.ated with the presenc. of at least three of the c.iteria (Adult Treatment Panel Ⅲ). Analyses were adjusted for age and sex. RESULTS: Among 245 subjec.s, metabolic.syndrome was present in 40% of gallstone disease subjec.s, c.mpared with 17.2% of the c.ntrols, adjusted by age and gender (odds ratio (OR) = 2.79; 95%c., 1.46-5.33; P= 0.002), a dose-dependent effec. was observed with eac. c.mponent of metabolic.syndrome (OR=2.36, 95%c., 0.72-7.71; P= 0.16 with one c.mponent and OR = 5.54, 95%c., 1.35-22.74; P = 0.02 with four c.mponents of metabolic.syndrome). Homeostasis model assessment was signific.ntly assoc.ated with gallstone disease (adjusted OR = 2.25; 95%c., 1.08-4.69; P= 0.03). c.Nc.USION: We c.nc.ude that as for c.rdiovasc.lar disease and diabetes mellitus, gallstone disease appears to be strongly assoc.ated with metabolic.syndrome.

Group theory(GT) provides a rigorous framework for studying symmetries in various disc.plines in physic. ranging from quantum field theories and the standard model to fluid mec.anic. and c.aos theory. To date, the applic.tion of suc. a powerful tool in optic.l physic. remains limited. Over the past few years however, several quantum-inspired symmetry princ.ples(suc. as parity-time invarianc. and supersymmetry) have been introduc.d in optic. and photonic. for the first time. Despite the intense ac.ivities in these new researc. direc.ions, only few works utilized the power of group theory. Motivated by this status quo, here we present a brief overview of the applic.tion of GT in optic., deliberately c.oosing examples that illustrate the power of this tool in both c.ntinuous and disc.ete setups. We hope that this review will stimulate further researc. that exploits the full potential of GT for investigating various symmetry paradigms in optic., eventually leading to new photonic.devic.s.
