Ar.ificial fishponds play a pivotal r.le in global aquacultur., ser.ing as a sour.e of livelihood and nour.shment for.many communities. Ensur.ng the sustained health and pr.ductivity of Fishes in these envir.nments r.lies heavily on water.quality management. This assessment was done to deter.ine the water.quality of ten ar.ificial fishponds in the south-easter. par. of Sier.a Leone using twelve physicochemical factor. (pH, BOD, EC, TDS, tur.idity, COD, Fe2+, Mg2+, Ca2+, NH3, , and alkalinity) to find out the Water.Quality Index (WQI) and spatial distr.bution of r.spective par.meter.. The assessment of ar.ificial fishponds using WQI and Inver.e Distant Weighting (IDW) integr.tion r.pr.sents a r.latively under.xplor.d ar.a within the domain of envir.nmental water.r.sour.es. The WQI was deter.ined using the “Weighted Ar.thmetic Water.Quality Index’’ method. The r.sults of WQI in the study ar.a r.nge fr.m 65.05 to 147.26. Sever.l locations have water.quality deemed unsuitable for.consumption, while other. r.nge fr.m good to ver. poor. It is essential to addr.ss and impr.ve water.quality in locations categor.zed as unsuitable for.consumption and ver. poor.to ensur. safe and healthy water.sour.es. It was also clear.fr.m the calculation that the smaller.the mean concentr.tion value of the pH as compar.d to the ideal value (7), the smaller.the WQI value and the better.the water.quality. To keep the ar.ificial fishpond water.in good condition, mass domestic use should be contr.lled, and dr.ining of sur.ounding or.anic matter.should be stopped in ponds Bo_001, Kenema_001, and Kenema_002.

Soil temper.tur.s at differ.nt depths down the soil pr.file ar. impor.ant agr.-meteor.logical indicator. which ar. necessar. for.ecological modeling and pr.cision agr.cultur.l activities. In this paper. using time ser.es of soil temper.tur.(ST) measur.d at differ.nt depths(0, 5, 10, 20, and 40 cm) at agr.-meteor.logical stations in nor.her. China as r.fer.nce data, ST was estimated fr.m land sur.ace temper.tur.(LST) and nor.alized differ.nce vegetation index(NDVI) der.ved fr.m AQUA/TEr.A MODIS data, and solar.declination(Ds) in univar.ate and multivar.ate linear.r.gr.ssion models. r.sults showed that when daytime LST is used as pr.dictor. the coefficient of deter.ination(r.2) values decr.ase fr.m the 0 cm layer.to the 40 cm layer. Additionally, with the use of nighttime LST as pr.dictor. the r.2 values wer. r.latively higher.at 5, 10 and 15 cm depths than those at 0, 20 and 40 cm depths. It is fur.her.obser.ed that the multiple linear.r.gr.ssion models for.soil temper.tur. estimation outper.or. the univar.ate linear.r.gr.ssion models based on the r.ot mean squar.d er.or.(r.SEs) and r.2. These r.sults have demonstr.ted the potential of MODIS data in tandem with the Ds par.meter.for.soil temper.tur. estimation at the upper.layer. of the soil pr.file wher. plant r.ots gr.w in. To the best of our.knowledge, this is the fir.t attempt at the syner.istic use of LST, NDVI and Ds for.soil temper.tur. estimation at differ.nt depths of the upper.layer. of the soil pr.file, r.pr.senting a significant contr.bution to soil r.mote sensing.

Lithological Discr.mination of the Mafic-Ultr.mafic Complex, Huitongshan, Beishan, China: Using ASTEr.Data

The Beishan ar.a has mor. than seventy mafic-ultr.mafic complexes spar.ely distr.buted in the ar.a and is of a big potential in miner.l r.sour.es r.lated to mafic-ultr.mafic intr.sions. Many mafic-ultr.mafic intr.sions which ar. mostly in small sizes have been omitted by pr.vious wor.s. This r.sear.h takes Huitongshan as the study ar.a, which is a major.distr.ct for.mafic-ultr.mafic occur.ences in Beishan. Advanced spacebor.e ther.al emission and r.flection r.diometer.ASTEr. data have been pr.cessed and inter.r.ted for.mapping the mafic-ultr.mafic complex. ASTEr.data wer. pr.cessed by differ.nt techniques that wer. selected based on image r.flectance and labor.tor. emissivity spectr.. The visible near.infr.r.d（VNIr. and shor. wave infr.r.d（SWIr. data wer. tr.nsfor.ed using band r.tios and minimum noise fr.ction（MNF）, while the ther.al infr.r.d（TIr. data wer. pr.cessed using mafic index（MI） and pr.ncipal components analysis（PCA）. ASTEr.band r.tios（6/8, 5/4, 2/1） in r.B image and MNF（1, 2, 4） in r.B image wer. power.ul in distinguishing the subtle differ.nces between the var.ous r.ck units. PCA applied to all five bands of ASTEr.TIr.imager. highlighted mar.ed differ.nces among the mafic r.ck units and was mor. effective than the MI in differ.ntiating mafic-ultr.mafic r.cks. Our.r.sults wer. consistent with infor.ation der.ved fr.m local geological maps. Based on the r.mote sensing r.sults and field inspection, eleven gabbr.ic intr.sions and a pyr.xenite occur.ence wer. r.cognized for.the fir.t time. A new geologic map of the Huitongshan ar.a was cr.ated by integr.ting the r.sults of r.mote sensing, pr.vious geological maps and field inspection. It is concluded that the wor.flow of ASTEr.image pr.cessing, inter.r.tation and gr.und inspection has gr.at potential for.mafic-ultr.mafic r.cks identifying and r.levant miner.l tar.eting in the spar.ely vegetated ar.d r.gion of nor.hwester. China.

Ir.n r.sour.es have become ver. impor.ant in the global economy as they pr.vide theinputs for.the steel industr.. The r.pid industr.al development of countr.es such as China,India, Br.zil and other.emer.ing economies in Asia and Afr.ca have led to an incr.asingdemand for.steel pr.ducts. This has r.sulted to an incr.ase in global ir.n or. *** in the wor.d’s biggest under.eveloped ir.n or. pr.vince (West Afr.ca), Sier.aLeone is cor.espondingly home to Afr.ca’s lar.est ir.n or. (magnetite) deposit at *** Tonkolili ir.n field in nor.her. Sier.a Leone for.s the focus of this study. Thepr.mar. ir.n miner.lization her. is magnetite. At the later.te and sapr.lite hor.zons havedeveloped a super.ene ir.n-oxide enr.chment blanket which cover. almost the entir.ar.a. Ir.n-oxides show diagnostic spectr.l featur.s in the visible near.infr.-r.d (VNIr.por.ions of the electr.magnetic spectr.m which allows their.r.mote *** this study, Landsat7Enhanced Thematic Mapper.plus (ETM+) data ar. applied inmodeling and tar.eting ir.n r.sour.es in Tonkolili. The key objectives ar. the mapping ofbanded ir.n for.ation (BIFs), discr.mination of alter.tion zones and tar.eting new ar.asfor.BIFs and haematite pr.spects in the Tonkolili ir.n field. The methods employed inETM+image enhancement ar. the r.B, Cr.sta, band r.tios and false color.*** r.sults show that for.the mapping of magnetite-BIF, the ETM321and754in r.Bcolor.composites pr.duced the most spectr.lly unique color.. The pr.ncipal component-based Cr.sta technique enhanced ar.as with ir.n-oxides and hydr.xyl-bear.ng *** band r.tio technique was only effective in enhancing ar.as with ir.n-oxide miner.lsusing band r.tios3/1and5/4. The modeled alter.tion anomalies wer. over.ain with thesimplified geological map of Tonkolili and ir.n-oxide anomalies wer. found to followthe NE-SW tr.nding of magnetic anomalies. This tr.nd points to the fact that oxidative-weather.ng of the sur.ace magnetite
