Load-sharing mechanism in timber-steel hybrid shear wall systems

the lateral performance of timber-steel hybrid shear wall systems with regard to the interaction between the steel frame and the infill wood shear wall was investigated in t.is paper. A numerical model for the timber-steel hybrid shear wall system was developed and verified against test results. Design parameters, such as the lateral infill-to-frame stiffness ratio and the arrangements of wood-steel bolted connections were studied using the numerical model. Some design recommendations were also proposed based on the paramet.ic analysis. in the hybrid shear wall system, the infill wood wall was found to resist a major part of the lateral load wit.in relatively small wall drifts, and then the steel frame provided more lateral resistance. Under seismic loads, the infill wood wall could significantly reduce the inter-story drift of the hybrid system, and a complementary effect between the infill wood wall and the steel frame was observed through different lateral load resisting mechanisms, which provided robustness to the hybrid shear wall systems.

Let B(G) denote the bandwidth of graph G. For any tree t, Ve(t) denote the set of leaves(venices of degree l) of t. Wang and Yao[5] obt.ined that for any tree t, B(t)≤ 「Ve(t) /2」and the bound is sharp. in t.is paper, we show that any tree may be imbedded into anothertree with the same number of leaves, and for t.is latter tree, the bound in the above inequalit.is reached. in other words, the bound is reached in almost all trees. We also describe trees Sr,d,where d and r are integers and liVe (Sr,d ) =(d+ 1) × dr- 1. Moreover, we will show that.if d (≤2r)is large, the ratio of the bandwidth to the number of leaves of S..d will be very small.

AiM:to evaluate the flipped classroom model for teaching horizontal strabismus didactics in an ophthalmology residency program in China as part of a visiting professorship from the United ***:Residents from an ophthalmology residency program in China were invited to participate in flipped classroom sessions taught by an experienced American ophthalmology faculty in *** were instructed to watch a pre-class video lecture prior to the in-class-casebased *** tests(5 Ophthalmic Knowledge Assessment Program style questions)and surveys were administered before and after the classroom sessions(100%response rate).these results were compared to that of an American cohort who were taught the same ***:the Chinese cohort of 12 residents preferred the flipped classroom to the traditional classroom at higher rates than the American cohort of 40 residents(92%vs 55%,P=0.04)and felt that all ophthalmology topics would be appropriate for the flipped classroom teaching style(P-values between 0.008 andin both Chinese and American cohorts,we found that the exotropia curriculum saw a small but significant.improvement.in performance following the flipped classroom session(P=0.025 for Chinese residents;P=0.001 for US residents),whereas scores in both groups for the esotropia course did not significantly ***:t.is is the first study to evaluate the flipped classroom model implemented by a visiting ophthalmology professor in a global outreach *** flipped classroom sessions are viewed favorably by the Chinese residents relative to the US cohort with a modest.impact on *** in-person interpreter requirement and increased student engagement make t.is model valuable in cross-cultural visiting professorship ***,the flipped classroom may lend itself well to a virtual format to prevent the transmission of COViD-19,although such a format requires further study.

SFRP5 inhibits melanin synthesis of melanocytes in vitiligo by suppressing the Wnt/b-catenin signaling

Secreted frizzled-related prot.in 5(SFRP5)plays a pivotal role in regulating the development of many tissues and organs,however,as an inhibitor of Wnt signaling,the role of SFRP5 in vitiligo remains ***,we speculated that SFRP5 might be associated with melanogenesis in melanocytes by regulating Wnt signaling in *** t.is study,we found that SFRP5 was overexpressed in the skin lesions of patients with *** with that.in normal epidermal melanocytes(PiG1),the expression of SFRP5 was increased in vitiligo melanocytes(PiG3V).to investigate the effect of SFRP5 on melanin synthesis,PiG1 cells were infected with recombinant SFRP5 adenovirus(AdSFRP5),and PiG3V cells were infected with recombinant siSFRP5 adenovirus(AdsiSFRP5).the results showed that SFRP5 overexpression inhibited melanin synthesis in PiG1 cells through downregulation of microphthalmia-associated transcription factor(MitF)and its target prot.ins via suppression of the Wnt/b-catenin signaling ***,SFRP5 silencing increased melanin synthesis and activated the Wnt signaling pathway in PiG3V ***,SFRP5 overexpression also downregulated the transcriptional activity of t cell factor/lymphoid enhancer factor(tCF/LEF)in PiG1 ***,t.is inhibitory effect of SFRP5 on melanin synthesis was reversed by treatment with the b-catenin agonist,*** inhibitory action of SFRP5 in pigmentation was further confirmed in vivo using a nude mouse ***,our results indicate that SFRP5 can inhibit melanogenesis in ***,our findings showed that SFRP5 plays a vital role in the development of vitiligo,and thus may serve as a potential therapeutic target for vitiligo.

Forkhead box P3 (FOXP3) is a “master regulator” of regulatory t cells (tregs), which are a subset of t cells that can suppress the antigen-specific immune reaction and that play important roles in host tolerance and immune homeostasis. it.is well known that FOXP3 forms complexes with several prot.ins and can be regulated by various post-translational modifications (PtMs) such as acetylation, phosphorylation, ubiquitination, and methylation. As a consequence, the PtMs change the stability of FOXP3 and its capability to regulate gene expression, and eventually affect treg activity. Although FOXP3 per se is not an ideal drug target, deacetylases, acetyltransferases, kinases, and other enzymes that regulate the PtMs of FOXP3 are potential targets to modulate FOXP3 and treg activity. However, FOXP3 is not the only substrate for most of these enzymes;thus, unwanted ‘‘on target/off FOXP3” side effects must be considered when inhibitors to these enzymes are used. in t.is review, we summarize recent progress in the study of FOXP3 cofactors and PtM prot.ins, and potential clinical applications in aut.immunity and cancer immunity.

t.is paper reports the results of the analyses of 17 different Hb variants which were observed in 37 families. High pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) was used to separate tryptic and thermolytic peptides of globin chains. the double coupling microsequencing technique can successfully be used for sequencing small or larger peptides.
