At present,a life-cycle assessment of energy storage systems(ESSs)is not widely available in the *** an assessment is increasingly vital nowadays as ESS is recognized as one of the important equipment in power systems to reduce peak demands for deferring or avoiding augmentation in the network and power *** the battery cost is still very high at present,a comprehensive assessment is necessary to determine the optimum ESS capacity so that the maximum financial gain is achievable at the end of the batteries’***,an effective life-cycle assessment is proposed in this paper to show how the optimum ESS capacity can be determined such that the maximum net financial gain is achievable at the end of the batteries’lifespan when ESS is used to perform peak demand reductions for the customer or utility *** findings reveal the positive financial viability of ESS on the power grid,otherwise the projection of the financial viability is often seemingly poor due to the high battery cost with a short battery *** improved battery degradation model is used in this assessment,which can simulate the battery degradation accurately in a situation whereby the charging current,discharging current,and temperature of the batteries are intermittent on a site during peak demand *** assessment is crucial to determine the maximum financial benefits brought by ESS.

Background:Segment coordination variability(CV)is a movement pattern associated with running-related *** can also be adversely affected by a prolonged ***,research on this topic is currently *** purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a prolonged run on segment CV and vertical loading rates during a treadmill half ***:Fifteen healthy runners ran a half marathon on an instrumental treadmill in a biomechanical *** kinematic and kinetic data were collected every 2 km(from 2 km until 20 km),and the data were processed by musculoskeletal *** CVs were computed from the angle-angle plots of selected pelvis-thigh,thigh-shank,and shank-rearfoot couplings using a modified vector coding *** loading rate of vertical ground reaction force was also calculated.A one-way MANOVA with repeated measures was performed on each of the outcome variables to examine the main effect of running ***:Significant effects of running mileage were found on segment CVs(p≤0.010)but not on loading rate(p=0.881).Notably,during the early stance phase,the CV of pelvis frontal thigh frontal was significantly increased at 20 km compared with the CV at 8 km(g=0.59,p=0.022).The CV of shank transverse *** frontal decreased from 2 km to 8 km(g=0.30,p=0.020)but then significantly increased at both 18 km(g=0.05,p<0.001)and 20 km(g=0.36,p<0.001).Conclusion:At the early stance,runners maintained stable CVs on the sagittal plane,which could explain the unchanged loading rate throughout the half ***,increased CVs on the frontal/transverse plane may be an early sign of fatigue and indicative of possible injury *** studies are necessary for conclusive statements in this regard.

Peperomia pellucida(L.) Kunth is a medicinal plant used to manage inflammatory illnesses such as conjunctivitis, and gastrointestinal and respiratory tract disorders in tropical and subtropical ***, little is known about its pharmacological mechanism of action against eye diseases. This review aims to critically discuss the phytochemistry, pharmacology and toxicology of P. pellucida as well as its roles in the treatment of cataract, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. Recent developments in the uses of P. pellucida for healthcare and nutraceutical products by the pharmaceutical industry are also covered in this review. For this review, a literature search was performed with PubMed, ScienceDirect, SciFinder Scholar and Scopus databases, using relevant keywords. among the various phytochemicals identified from P. pellucida, β-caryophyllene, carotol, dillapiole, ellagic acid, pellucidin A, phytol and vitexin exhibit strong pharmacological activities within the mitogen-activated protein kinase and nuclear factor-κB signalling pathways in inflammatory eye diseases. The antihypertensive, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant,antihyperglycemic and anti-angiogenic activities displayed by P. pellucida extracts in many in vitro,in vivo and clinical studies suggest its potential role in the management of inflammatory eye diseases.P. pellucida extract was non-toxic against normal cell lines but displayed mild toxicity in animal *** growing public interest in P. pellucida has inspired the nutraceutical and pharmaceutical industries to process the plant into health products. Although the potential pharmacological mechanisms against eye diseases have been summarized, further studies of the interactions among constituent phytochemicals from P. pellucida within various signalling pathways shall support the use of the plant as an alternative therapeutic source.

The theoretical calculation of the charge mobility of 2,5-bis(trialkylsilylethynyl)-1,1,3,4-tetraphenylsiloles is presented.B3LYP/6-31* calculations demonstrated that these silole molecules possessed large coupling matrix elements and reorganization energies for electron and hole transfers and high electron *** bulkiness of the trialkyl substituents influenced the charge mobility of the silole molecules,with the smaller trimethyl group imparting higher charge mobility than triethyl and triisopropyl substituents.

Leptin, a protein hormone produced by the adipocytes, has long been recognized to regulate metabolism, neuroendorine and other physiological functions. Early findings of increased leptin production during infection and inflammation and dysregulated immune response in leptin signaling-deficient mice provide strong evidence for the involvement of leptin in the immune responses. Recent data have established the regulatory function for leptin in immunity similar to the function of a pro-inflammatory cytokine, while gene-targeting studies also demonstrated an essential role of leptin in regulating hematopoiesis and lymphopoiesis. Moreover, there has been increasing evidence that leptin is involved in the pathogenesis of various autoimmune diseases. This review discusses recent advances in understanding the role of leptin in immunity and leptin-signaling pathways involved in modulating immune homeostasis and autoimmune pathogenesis.
