Circulating Th17 and Tc17 Cells and Their Imbalance with Regulatory T Cells Is Associated with Myocardial Infarction in Young Indian Patients

Background: Activated inflammatory cells are found in coronary plaques as well as peripheral circulation in patients with acute coronary syndrome. We explored the circulating T cell profile, their reactivity to self-antigens and plasma cytokine levels in Indian patients with Myocardial Infarction. Methods and Results: Intracellular expression of interferon-γ Interleukin (IL)-4, IL-17, IL-10 and Foxp3 were determined in CD4+ and CD8+ T cells using flow cytometry in patients with ST elevated myocardial infarction (STEMI) (N = 79) and controls (N = 80). Cytokines were measured using Milliplex kit and T cell reactivity was studied by CFSE dilution. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software. Patients with myocardial infarction showed higher proportion of IL-17 expressing CD4+ and CD8+ T cells (Th17 and Tc17) and elevated levels of IL-6 and IL-17 in plasma with significant reduction in circulating Tregs. Th1, Th2 and CD4+CD28null cells were not significantly different in patients compared to healthy individuals. The ratio of Th17 and Tc17 to Tregs showed an independent association with STEMI with an adjusted odds ratio of 2.92 (95% CI: 1.73 - 4.92), P + and CD8+ T cells secreting IL-17 and Tregs is associated with acute myocardial infarction. HSP60 and Ox-LDL may contribute to this response and pathogenesis of AMI in Indian population.

Oral Administration of Nicotinamide Mononucleotide with Bioenhancer BioPerine® Increases the Serum Concentration of Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide in Healthy Human Volunteers: A Pilot, Open-Label, Cross-Over Study

Background: Bioenhancers augment the bioavailability of co-administered molecules without showing any significant effect on their own. Piperine, an alkaloid from Piper nigrum, is an established natural bioenhancer. Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN), an antiaging supplement, is the precursor of coenzyme nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) that plays an important role in intracellular redox reactions. Objective: The study compared the serum concentrations of NAD in normal healthy participants, supplemented with NMN 500 mg and NMN 500 mg + 5 mg BioPerine® (95% piperine). Methods: In a randomized, open-label, crossover study, NMN (500 mg) was compared to NMN + BioPerine® (500 mg + 5 mg) in 6 healthy adults, aged 18 - 45 years. The participants received a single oral dose of NMN or NMN + BioPerine® capsules with 240 mL water, and blood samples were collected over 8hr. After a 4-day washout period, the same procedures were repeated as per the crossover design. Total NAD (NADtotal), including oxidized NAD (the oxidized) and its reduced form NADH, was measured in human serum samples. Results: The maximum concentration (Cmax) of NAD in serum was higher with NMN + BioPerine® (282 pmol/mL) compared to NMN (246 pmol/mL) alone. In the presence of BioPerine®, the NAD concentrations reached 257 pmol/mL during the first 2 hr, whereas a comparable serum concentration (246 pmol/mL) was attained only after 6 hr in NMN alone. The AUC0-8hr was 1738 pmol/mL/hr in NMN compared to 2004 pmol/mL/hr in NMN+ BioPerine®. The time to reach peak concentration (t1/2) was similar (6hr) in both groups. No clinically relevant adverse events (AE) were observed, and safety parameters remained within normal ranges in all the participants with both formulations. Conclusion: These results reveal that BioPerine® can effectively increase the NAD concentrations in the serum following NMN supplementation in healthy volunteers. Lower back pain is one of the most common medical problems in the world and it is experienced by a huge percentage of people *** to its ability to produce a detailed view of the soft tissues,including the spinal cord,nerves,intervertebral discs,and vertebrae,Magnetic Resonance Imaging is thought to be the most effective method for imaging the *** semantic segmentation of vertebrae plays a major role in the diagnostic process of lumbar *** is difficult to semantically partition the vertebrae in Magnetic Resonance Images from the surrounding variety of tissues,including muscles,ligaments,and intervertebral discs.U-Net is a powerful deep-learning architecture to handle the challenges of medical image analysis tasks and achieves high segmentation *** work proposes a modified U-Net architecture namely MU-Net,consisting of the Meijering convolutional layer that incorporates the Meijering filter to perform the semantic segmentation of lumbar vertebrae L1 to L5 and sacral vertebra ***-colour mask images were generated and used as ground truth for training the *** work has been carried out on 1312 images expanded from T1-weighted mid-sagittal MRI images of 515 patients in the Lumbar Spine MRI Dataset publicly available from Mendeley *** proposed MU-Net model for the semantic segmentation of the lumbar vertebrae gives better performance with 98.79%of pixel accuracy(PA),98.66%of dice similarity coefficient(DSC),97.36%of Jaccard coefficient,and 92.55%mean Intersection over Union(mean IoU)metrics using the mentioned dataset.

Renewable energy resources, policies and gaps in BRICS countries and the global impact

This paper presents comparative yet extensive analysis of existing non-conventional renewable resources, energy policies and gaps in BRICS countries. An intelligent transformation to green economy to maintain natural resources is noted. Brazil has stable energy policies and is the leading producer of biofuels following hydropower until 2014 but supported wind and solar power development by tendering specific tariffs for energy generation from solar and wind. Russia needs improvement in its legal and regulatory framework with more incentives in energy policies. China is improving upon wind and hydropower but it needs strong policy measures to put cap on increased CO2 emissions. India needs revision in energy policy and requires extra incentives and consumer specific energy policies for research-infrastructure and energy generation technologies. South Africa requires lessons to increase renewable energy and reduce coal mining. Moreover, BRICS countries need to redefine their energy policies based upon their existing geographical, economical, societal and environmental conditions which will help in shaping global energy policies and more financial stability. This paper recognizes the potential of BRICS to reshape the global system paralleled with minimizing CO2 emissions. The concerted role of BRICS needs to be recognized as the leading contributor of global renewable capacity where the developed world is geared and busy to address the environmental issues.

Decentralized damage diagnostic technique for tall buildings using VARMAX model

Civil infrastructure,especially buildings,are becoming more slender,tall,and multipurpose,creating a need to continuously monitor their health to ensure the safety and security of human lives and *** the majority of structural health monitoring techniques use measurements from the entire structure,in this study,an output-only damage diagnostic technique using a decentralized concept(subdomain-based)for tall buildings and employing a vector form of the autoregressive moving average with exogenous input(VARMAX)model is proposed,which offers reduced instrumentation and data handling *** other decentralized approaches,this technique predicts more than one DOF at a time so the number of subdomains required for the diagnosis of the complete structure is *** proposed subdomain-based damage diagnostic algorithm works with ambient loads and does not require any correlated numerical models since it is solely based on measured *** proposed algorithm can identify the time instant of damage,spatial location(s)and characterize the damage *** have been made to account for confounding factors such as environmental and operational variabilities separate from measurement noise to avoid false positive *** effectiveness of the proposed technique is illustrated using synthetic time history responses from a twenty-story framed structure under ambient loading and an experimental study on a ten-story framed *** numerical and experimental investigations confirm the effectiveness of the method and its robustness to environmental/operational variabilities and measurement noise.

Adaptive Particle Swarm Optimization Data Hiding for High Security Secret Image Sharing

The main aim of this work is to improve the security of data hiding forsecret image sharing. The privacy and security of digital information have becomea primary concern nowadays due to the enormous usage of digital *** security and the privacy of users’ images are ensured through reversible datahiding techniques. The efficiency of the existing data hiding techniques did notprovide optimum performance with multiple end nodes. These issues are solvedby using Separable Data Hiding and Adaptive Particle Swarm Optimization(SDHAPSO) algorithm to attain optimal performance. Image encryption, dataembedding, data extraction/image recovery are the main phases of the proposedapproach. DFT is generally used to extract the transform coefficient matrix fromthe original image. DFT coefficients are in float format, which assists in transforming the image to integral format using the round function. After obtainingthe encrypted image by data-hider, additional data embedding is formulated intohigh-frequency coefficients. The proposed SDHAPSO is mainly utilized for performance improvement through optimal pixel location selection within the imagefor secret bits concealment. In addition, the secret data embedding capacityenhancement is focused on image visual quality maintenance. Hence, it isobserved from the simulation results that the proposed SDHAPSO techniqueoffers high-level security outcomes with respect to higher PSNR, security level,lesser MSE and higher correlation than existing techniques. Hence, enhancedsensitive information protection is attained, which improves the overall systemperformance.

Estimation of total water storage changes in India

Long-term droughts significantly impact surface and groundwater resources in India,however,observed changes in major river basins have not been well *** we use Standardized Precipitation Index(SPI)and Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index(SPEI)at three different time scales(24,48,and 60 months)to identify long-term droughts in India for the observed record of *** characteristics(extent,events,frequency,and intensity)are analyzed for different river basins in *** trend in the areal extent of droughts is observed in two methods with three time scales in the maximum area(63.66%)in *** use the data from the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment(GRACE)to estimate the changes in the terrestrial water storage(TWS)during the period *** identify that major long-term droughts in India occurred from 1966 to 1969,1972,1986-1987,and *** all-India average TWS shows a negative trend from 2002 to 2015 with prominent decline in north Indian river basins and positive trend in south Indian river *** and SPEI at longer time scales are positively associated with TWS indicating the adverse impacts of droughts on surface and groundwater resources in such a populated region.

Profile and Rating Similarity Analysis for Recommendation Systems Using Deep Learning

Recommendation systems are going to be an integral part of any E-Business in near *** in any other E-business,recommendation systems also play a key role in the travel business where the user has to be recommended with a restaurant that best suits *** general,the recommendations to a user are made based on similarity that exists between the intended user and the other *** similarity can be calculated either based on the similarity between the user profiles or the similarity between the ratings made by the *** phase of this work concentrates on experimentally analyzing both these models and get a deep insight of these *** the lessons learned from the insights,second phase of the work concentrates on developing a deep learning *** model does not depend on the other user's profile or rating made by *** model is tested with a small restaurant dataset and the model can predict whether a user likes the restaurant or *** model is trained with different users and their *** system learns from it and in order to predict whether a new user likes or not a restaurant that he/she has not visited earlier,all the data the trained model needed is the rating made by the same user for different *** model is deployed in a cloud environment in order to extend it to be more realistic product in *** evaluated with dataset,it achieves 74.6%is accurate prediction of results,where as existing techniques achieves only 64%.

Impact of temperature and precipitation lapse rate on hydrological modelling over Himalayan Gandak River Basin

The hydrology of Himalayan region is influenced by temperature lapse rate(TLAPS)and precipitation lapse rate(PLAPS).Therefore,hydrological modeling considering TLAPS and PLAPS is crucial to manage the water resources in these *** this research,Himalayan Gandak River basin is considered as the study area where TLAPS and PLAPS vary significantly due to high altitude of *** assess the impact of TLAPS and PLAPS on water balance components,Soil Water Assessment Tool(SWAT)model was calibrated(2000-2007)and validated(2008-2014)on daily time step for three projects i.e.,Reference Project(RP),Snowmelt Project(SP)and distributed elevation band snowmelt project(SWAT-ETISM).The analysis discloses that SWAT-ETISM model(which has TLAPS and PLAPS parameters)outperforms the RP and the SP models in predicting streamflow with improved statistical indicators R2=0.88,NSE=0.84 and PBIAS=***,it was observed that SWAT-ETISM model comprehensively improved the streamflow statistics by improving the snow water equivalent and water balance components through the consideration of TLAPS and PLAPS values for the ***,the proposed SWAT-ETISM model can be used for estimation of the water budget at the high-altitude and data scarce alpine Himalayan regions and worldwide,where PLAPS and TLAPS are substantial due to altitudinal variation.
