Neodymium (Nd) depleted mantle model ages indicate that the Kangding complexes in the northern segment of the western Yangtze craton, argued as representative of the craton's basement, actually formed after 1.6 Ga. An Sm-Nd isochron of 706 Ma constrains the upper limit formation of the complex from Shaba, Sichuan Province. Lead (Pb) isotopic compositions imply that the southern and northern basements of the western Yangtze craton can not be correlated. The southern basement is characterized by higher ~206Pb/~204Pb ratios (≥17.69) than the northern ones (<17.69). However, Hercynian granitoids, gabbros as well as the Permian basalts in the northern segment show no difference from the southern segment in Pb isotopic compositions. This suggests that the southern and northern segments were controlled by one common mantle domain during the Late Paleozoic. Based on Nd model ages of sediments and metasediments, as well as the ages of their relict zircons, we infer that the Yangtze craton is mainly composed of 2.0 Ga crustal components. The Kangding complex represents the accretion products to the Yangtze craton in Neoproterozoic.

Geochemistry of the Cenozoic Potassic Volcanic Rocks in the West Kunlun Mountains and Constraints on Their Sources

The geochemical characteristics of the Cenozoic volcanic rocks from the north Pulu, east Pulu and Dahongliutan regions in the west Kunlun Mountains are somewhat similar as a whole. However, the volcanic rocks from the Dahongliutan region in the south belt are geochemically distinguished from those in the Pulu region (including the north and east Pulu) of the north belt. The volcanic rocks of the Dahongliutan region are characterized by relatively low TiO2 abundance, but more enrichment in alkali, much more enrichment in light rare earth elements and large ion lithosphile elements than those from the Pulu region. Compared with the Pulu region, volcanic rocks from the Dahongliutan region have relatively low 87Sr/86Sr ratios, and high εNd, 207Pb/204Pb and 208Pb/204Pb. Their trace elements and isotopic data suggest that they were derived from lithospheric mantle, consisting of biotite- and hornblende-bearing garnet lherzolite, which had undertaken metasomatism and enrichment. On the primitive mantle-normalized patterns, they display remarkably negative Nb and Ta anomalies, indicating the presence of early-stage subducted oceanic crust. The metasomatism and enrichment resulted from the fluid released from the crustal materials enclosed in the source region in response to the uplift of asthenospheric mantle. Based on the previous experiments it can be inferred that the thickness of the lithosphere ranges from 75 to 100 km prior to the generation of the magmas. However, the south belt differs from the north one by its thicker lithosphere and lower degree of partial melting. The different thickness of the lithosphere gives rise to corresponding variation of the degree of crustal contamination. The volcanic rocks in the south belt are much more influenced by crustal contamination. Mixing events between the crust- and mantle-derived magmas in Eastern Kunlun: Evidence from zircon SHRIMP Ⅱ chronology

Various shaped mafic microgranular enclaves (MMEs) together with several mafic massifs are developed within the Yuegelu granitoid pluton in the eastern part of the Eastern Kunlun. On the basis of detailed field geological surveying and of the results of the petrological and geo-chemical studies it is suggested that there must be some ge-netic relationship among the granodiorite host, the MMEs and the hornblende (Hb)-gabbro massifs. Magmatic zircon grains are extracted from samples of granodiorite host rock, Hb-gabbro and the MMEs for U-Pb dating. The U-Pb ages are determined by using SHRIMP Ⅱ technique, which yields the ages of 242±6 Ma, 239±6 Ma and 241±5 Ma, respectively. The overall correspondence in the U-Pb dating results of them excludes the possibility that the MMEs in the granitoids are solid refractory relics from the source region or that they are xenoliths from the wall rocks. It can also rule out the possibility of a later emplacement of basic magma after the solidification of the granitoids. This dating result indicates that they are the products of magma mixing in early-mid Triassic epoch. Among them the granitoid host is chemically akin to the acidic end member during the magma mixing process, the Hb-gabbro is akin to the basic ones while the MMEs are the incompletely mixed basic magma clots trapped in the acidic magma. Combined with the results from other researches on this pluton it is reasonable to con-sider that in the mid-Triassic the Eastern Kunlun granitoid belt had undergone a process of magma mixing between the mantle-derived basic magma and the crustal acidic magma which indicates that the injection of mantle materials and energy into the crust and the reactions between them played an important role in the formation of the granitoid rocks.

Geochemistry and zircon U-Pb ages of granulite xenolith from Tuoyun basalts, Xinjiang: Implications for the petrogenesis and the lower crustal nature beneath the southwestern Tianshan

The granulitic xenoliths discovered in the late Cretaceous basaltic rocks from Tuoyun basin, western Xinjiang Province contain the assemblage of Opx + Cpx + Pl ± Grt ± Qtz ± Kfs. Mineral chemistry, petrochemistry and zircon U-Pb ages from the xenoliths have been reported in the paper. Petrogenesis, the lower crustal nature and the mantle-crust interaction reflected by the granulites are discussed as well. Tuoyun granulites are mainly mafic with few intermediate components, and represent the magmatic products underwent granulite-facies metamorphism in lower crustal condition. Equilibrium temperature and the maximum pressure estimates of the granulites are 910 ± 35℃ and 13.5 × 108 Pa respectively, indicating that the crust beneath southwestern Tianshan had the thickness of less than 44 km and high geotherm (e.g. > 80 mW/m2) when the host magma erupted. During their formation, the fractional crystallization of olivine, pyroxene, plagioclase and ilmenite, plagioclase accumulation and the contamination of felsic components or fluid metasomatism processes had happened. Metamorphic zircon U-Pb age of 253 Ma may record the crust-mantle interaction caused by the orogenic root delamination beneath the southwestern Tianshan.
