Abdominal aortic aneurysm （AAA） has a high propensity to rupture. Repair of AAA by conventional surgical replacement with a graft has been the standard of treatment since the mid 1960s. Because of advances in surgical, anaesthetic and intensive care techniques, the outcome of elective open AAA repair has improved constantly. However, with the improvement of endovascular techniques, the role of open repair is being challenged. More and more stents are being deployed in patients because of their less invasive characteristics. We reviewed our ten years of experience with elective open AAA repair and recent papers about endoluminal and open repair for AAA to discuss status and future of open repair for AAA in China.

Incidence and Risk Factors of Deep Venous Thrombosis in Asymptomatic Iliac Vein Compression： A Prospective Cohort Study

Background： Deep vein thrombosis （DVT） may be associated with iliac vein compression. Up to now, the majority of data has come from a retrospective study about the correlation between DVT and iliac vein compression. This prospective study was to detemline the incidence of DVT in individuals with iliac vein compression and identify risk factors predictive of DVT. Methods： A total of 500 volunteers without symptoms of venous diseases of lower extremities and overt risk factors of deep venous thrombosis between October 2011 and September 2012 in Shijitan Hospital were enrolled in this cohort study. All the participants underwent contrast-enhanced abdominal computed tomography （CT） to evaluate lilac vein compression. Baseline demographic information and degree of iliac vein compression were collected. They were categorized into ≥50% or 〈50% iliac vein compression group. Ultrasound examination was pertbrmed to screen DVT at the time of CT examination and 3, 6, 9, and 12 months alter the examination. Primary event was DVT of ipsilateral lower extremity. Correlation between DVT and iliac vein compression was estimated by multivariate Logistic regression alter adjusting for age, gender, malignancy, surgery/immobilization, chemotherapy/hormonal therapy, and pregnancy. Results： In 500 volunteers, 8.8% （44） had 〉50% iliac vein compression and 91.2% （456） had 〈50% lilac vein compression, lpsilateral DVT occurred in six volunteers including two in iliofemoral vein, two in popliteal vein, and two in calf vein within 1 year. Univariate analysis showed that the incidence of DVT was 6.8% in 〉_50% compression group, significantly higher than that in 〈50% compression group （0.7%）（Х^2= - 12.84, P 0.01）. Patients with malignancy had significantly higher incidence of DVT than those without malignancy （Х^2 = 69.60, P〈 0.01 ）. Multivariate Logistic regression indicated that iliac vein compression and malignancy were independent risk factors of DVT. CaCu_(3)Ti_(4)O_(12)(CCTO)ceramic nanocomposites incorporating graphene–carbon black(GRCB)fillers were fabricated by spark plasma sintering process.The percolative effects of conductive GRCB fillers on dielectric response of GRCB/CCTO ternary metacomposites were systematically investigated.The weakly real permittivity(ε′)-negative response(ε′~−1×10^(2))was achieved which originated from weakly low-frequency plasmonic state of free carriers within constructed GRCB networks.With enhancing three-dimensional GRCB network,the plasma frequency of metacomposites increased while the damping factor decreased.Herein,theε′-negative values of metacomposites were tuned from−10^(2) to−10^(4) orders of magnitude andε′-near-zero(ENZ)frequencies from~142 to~340 MHz which substantially benefited from the moderate carrier concentration of GRCB dual fillers.The Drude model and equivalent circuit models were adopted to demonstrate dielectric and electrical characteristics.The obtained metacomposites show strong EM shielding effect along with enhanced plasmonic oscillation and even better achieving perfect EM shielding effect in ENZ media.This work achieves the tunableε′-negative andε′-near-zero response and more importantly clarifies its regulation mechanism in ceramic-based ternary metacomposites,which opens up the possibility of designing high-performance EM shielding materials based on metacomposites.

Sri Lankan cassava mosaic virus(SLCMV)is a prominent causative agent of cassava mosaic disease in Asia and relies on the whitefly Bemisia tabaci cryptic complex for its transmission.However,the molecular mechanisms involved in SLCMV transmission by B.tabaci have yet to be understood.In this study,we identified an aminopeptidase N-like protein(BtAPN)in B.tabaci Asia II 1,an efficient vector of SLCMV,which is involved in the SLCMV transmission process.Through the use of glutathione S-transferase pull-down assay and LC-MS/MS analysis,we demonstrated the interaction between BtAPN and the coat protein(CP)of SLCMV.This interaction was further confirmed in vitro,and we observed an induction of BtAPN gene expression following SLCMV infection.By interfering with the function of BtAPN,the quantities of SLCMV were significantly reduced in various parts of B.tabaci Asia II 1,including the whole body,midgut,hemolymph,and primary salivary gland.Furthermore,we discovered that BtAPN is conserved in B.tabaci Middle East-Asia Minor 1(MEAM1)and interacts with the CP of tomato yellow leaf curl virus(TYLCV),a begomovirus known to cause severe damage to tomato production.Blocking BtAPN with antibody led to a significant reduction in the quantities of TYLCV in whitefly whole body and organs/tissues.These results demonstrate that BtAPN plays a generic role in interacting with the CP of begomoviruses and positively regulates their acquisition by the whitefly.

Road traffic safety can decrease when drivers drive in a low-visibility environment.The application of visual perception technology to detect vehicles and pedestrians in infrared images proves to be an effective means of reducing the risk of accidents.To tackle the challenges posed by the low recognition accuracy and the substan-tial computational burden associated with current infrared pedestrian-vehicle detection methods,an infrared pedestrian-vehicle detection method A proposal is presented,based on an enhanced version of You Only Look Once version 5(YOLOv5).First,A head specifically designed for detecting small targets has been integrated into the model to make full use of shallow feature information to enhance the accuracy in detecting small targets.Second,the Focal Generalized Intersection over Union(GIoU)is employed as an alternative to the original loss function to address issues related to target overlap and category imbalance.Third,the distribution shift convolution optimization feature extraction operator is used to alleviate the computational burden of the model without significantly compromising detection accuracy.The test results of the improved algorithm show that its average accuracy(mAP)reaches 90.1%.Specifically,the Giga Floating Point Operations Per second(GFLOPs)of the improved algorithm is only 9.1.In contrast,the improved algorithms outperformed the other algorithms on similar GFLOPs,such as YOLOv6n(11.9),YOLOv8n(8.7),YOLOv7t(13.2)and YOLOv5s(16.0).The mAPs that are 4.4%,3%,3.5%,and 1.7%greater than those of these algorithms show that the improved algorithm achieves higher accuracy in target detection tasks under similar computational resource overhead.On the other hand,compared with other algorithms such as YOLOv8l(91.1%),YOLOv6l(89.5%),YOLOv7(90.8%),and YOLOv3(90.1%),the improved algorithm needs only 5.5%,2.3%,8.6%,and 2.3%,respectively,of the GFLOPs.The improved algorithm has shown significant advancements in balancing accuracy and computational efficiency,making it promising for practica

AIM:To compare high or low concentration of hyaluronic acid eye drops(HY)for dry eye syndromes(DES).METHODS:Randomized controlled trials(RCTs)comparing various concentrations of HY were searched in PubMed,Embase,Web of Science,Cochrane,SinoMed,CNKI,Wanfang Database,CQVIP,and Chinese journals databases between inception and July 2023.Pooled standardized mean differences(SMD)or weighted mean difference(WMD)with 95%confidence intervals(CI)from RCTs evaluating Schirmer’s I test(SIT),corneal fluorescein staining score(CFS),tear breakup time(TBUT),DES score(DESS),and Ocular Surface Disease Index(OSDI)were calculated.Sensitivity analysis,Egger’s test and Meta-regression analysis were performed for all indicators.RESULTS:We conducted a Meta-analysis of 10 RCTs that met the inclusion criteria,involving 1796 cases.High-concentrations group significantly improved the outcome of CFS according to random effects modelling(SMD,-3.37;95%CI,-5.25 to-1.48;P=0.0005).The rest of the results were not statistically significant,including indicators such as SIT,TBUT,DESS and OSDI.CONCLUSION:For dry eyes with positive corneal staining,a high concentration of HY is recommended,whereas in other cases,a high concentration of HY does not offer a more pronounced advantage over a low concentration of HY in the treatment of dry eyes.

Coalbursts in China: Theory, practice and management

Coalburst is one of the most serious disasters that threaten the safe production of coal mines, and this disaster is particularly serious in China. This paper presents an overview of coalbursts in China since 1980s. From the "stress and energy" and "regional and local" perspectives, the achievements in the theory, practice and management of coalbursts in China are systematically summarized. A theoretical system of coalbursts has been formed to reveal the deformational behavior of coalbursts and explain the mechanism of coalbursts. The occurrence conditions of coalbursts are put forward and the critical stress is obtained. The stress index method for risk evaluation of coalbursts before mining is proposed, and the deformation localization prediction method of coalbursts is put forward. The relationship between energy release and absorption in the process of coalbursts is found, and the prevention and control methods of coalbursts, including the regional method, the local method and support, are presented. The safety evaluation index of coalburst prevention and control is put forward. The integrated prevention and control method for coal and gas outbursts is proposed. The prevention and control technology and equipment of coalbursts have also been developed. Amongst them, the distribution law of the critical stress in China coalburst mines is discovered. The technology and equipment for monitoring, prevention and control of coalbursts, as well as for integrated prevention and control of combined coalbursts and other disasters, have been developed. The energy-absorbing and coalburst-preventing support technology for roadways is invented, and key engineering parameters of coalburst prevention and control are pointed out. In China, coalburst prevention and control laws and standards have been developed. Technical standards for coalbursts are formulated, statute and regulations for coal mines are established, and regulatory documents are promoted.
