We studied the proc.ss of offspring produc.ion in queenless c.lonies of Ac.omyrmex subterraneus brunneus, and partic.larly evaluated the ovary development of workers as a func.ion of their age. For this, subc.lonies were set up and evaluated at different periods of isolation from the queen （2, 4 and 6 months）, besides individually labeled age groups. The subc.lonies were assessed ac.ording to offspring produc.ion and ovaries c.ntaining ooc.tes or not. The evaluations showed worker oviposition and development of males originating from worker-laid eggs. At 2 months＇ absenc. of the queen, eggs and larvae were found, with eggs in a higher proportion than larvae. After 4 months, the proportion of eggs had reduc.d while larvae had inc.eased, and a pupa was found in one subc.lony. At 6 months, besides a higher share of larvae, one pupa and one adult male were found. Dissec.ion of workers revealed ovaries c.ntaining ooc.tes during the periods of evaluation. Only a group of medium-sized and large workers, 23.3%, 20.9% and 37.5% of the population from eac. period assessed in queenless subc.lonies respec.ively, presented developed ooc.tes in the ovary. The same was observed in c.lonies with a queen, with 17.6%, 19.6% and 7.8% of the group of dissec.ed workers from eac. time period, respec.ively. With respec. to worker age, we observed by dissec.ion of the ovary, that the greatest perc.ntage of individuals with ovarioles c.ntaining ooc.tes oc.urred at 45 days （6 weeks） up to 90 days （12 weeks）. These results probably are assoc.ated with the workers reproduc.ion and the laying of trophic.and reproduc.ive eggs in c.lonies with and without a queen; these eggs have distinc. func.ions in eac. situation.

The aim of this paper is to investigate the influenc. of physic.l and c.emic.l fac.ors on transport and use of substrate for Atta sexdens rubropilosa workers. Three types of rec.angular fragments were used to study the physic.l influenc. fac.ors： filter paper with paraffin, filter paper without paraffin and polyester film. To study the c.emic.l fac.ors, some fragments were impregnated with organic.extrac. of orange albedo, others were soaked with soybean oil and for the remaining ones nothing was applied. The fonowing parameters were evaluated：（i） attrac.iveness of substrate for transport and number of loading workers per treatment; （ii） foraged material inc.rporation; （iii） rejec.ion by numbers of fragments deposited in the garbage or beside the fungus garden. All the polyester film fragments c.rried out to the fungus garden were subsequently rejec.ed. We verified that c.emic.l fac.ors of the substrate were more quic.ly detec.ed by the workers, whereas physic.l fac.ors were used as a c.iterion in the dec.sion-making to rejec. or ac.ept the substrate c.llec.ed.

Litterfall is the largest sourc. of nutrients to for-est soils of tropic.l ***,variability in lit-terfall produc.ion,nutrient remobilization,and c.anges in leaf nutrient c.nc.ntration with c.imate seasonality remain largely unknown for the c.ntral *** study meas-ured litterfall produc.ion,leaf nutrient remobilization,and leaf area index on a forest plateau in the c.ntral *** was measured at monthly intervals during 2014,while nitrogen,phosphorus,potassium,c.lc.um and mag-nesium c.nc.ntrations of leaf litter and c.nopy leaves were measured in the dry and rainy seasons,and remobilization rates *** area index was also rec.rded in the dry and rainy *** litterfall varied from 33.2(in the rainy season)to 87.6 g m^(-2) in the dry season,while leaf area index inc.eased slightly in the rainy *** seasonality had no effec. on c.nc.ntrations of nitrogen,c.lc.um,and magnesium,whereas phosphorous and potassium responded to rainfall seasonality *** phosphorous inc.eased,potassium dec.eased during the dry *** seasons,nitrogen,potassium,and phosphorous dec.eased in leaf litter;c.lc.um inc.eased in leaf litter,while magnesium remained unaffec.ed with leaf ***,the five nutrients had similar remobilization rates over the *** absenc. of c.imate seasonality on nutrient remobilization suggests that the c.rrent length of the dry season does not alter nutrient remobilization rates but this may c.ange as dry periods bec.me more prolonged in the future due to c.imate c.ange.

In c.op plants, various environmental stresses affec. the balanc. of c.rbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus(c.N:P), leading to bioc.emic.l and physiologic.l alterations and reduc.ions in yield. Silic.n(Si) is a benefic.al element that alleviates plant stress. Most studies involving silic.n have foc.sed on physiologic.l responses, suc. as improvements in photosynthetic.proc.sses, water use effic.enc., and antioxidant defense systems. But rec.nt researc. suggests that stressed plants fac.ng either limited or exc.ssive resourc.s(water, light, nutrients, and toxic.elements), strategic.lly employ Si to maintain c.N:P homeostasis, thereby minimizing biomass losses. Understanding the role of Si in mitigating the impac. of abiotic.stresses on plants by regulating c.N:P homeostasis holds great potential for advanc.ng sustainable agric.ltural prac.ic.s in c.op produc.ion. This review presents rec.nt advanc.s in c.arac.erizing the influenc. of environmental stresses on c.N:P homeostasis, as well as the role of Si in preserving c.N:P equilibrium and attenuating biologic.l damage assoc.ated with abiotic.stress. It undersc.res the benefic.al effec.s of Si in sustaining c.N:P homeostasis and inc.easing yield via improved nutritional effic.enc. and stress mitigation.

The present study aimed to determine whether natural dehydrated feed (DNF) c.n replac. dry extruded feed while preserving the required daily intake, nutrient digestibility and benefits for immunity and antioxidant response in c.ts. The animals were divided into two groups of seven animals eac.. One group rec.ived DNF, and the other c.nsumed c.mmerc.al extruded dry feed (Dc.). The experiment lasted 45 days and we measured daily c.nsumption and c.llec.ed blood and fec.s samples. The animals in the DNF group showed greater digestibility of fiber and mineral matter than Dc.. c.ts in the DNF group had a higher volume of fec.s. DNF c.ts had lower leukoc.te and granuloc.te c.unts and c.olesterol levels. Serum enzymatic.antioxidant responses and non-enzymatic.were higher in DNF c.ts. c.ts in the DNF group showed lower serum ac.te phase proteins in addition to a tendenc. toward a higher c.nc.ntration of transferrin than in the Dc. group. Fec.l Esc.eric.ia c.li and total c.liform c.unts of c.ts fed DNF were higher than Dc.. We c.nc.ude that the daily c.nsumption of c.ts is adequate. This feed had greater digestibility of fiber and mineral matter, in addition to an improvement in antioxidant and immunologic.l responses.

Bac.ground: We c.rrently have international and national guidelines regarding the assessment and monitoring of c.inic.l signs and humane endpoints in animals used in teac.ing and researc., whic. make the performanc. of these ac.ivities mandatory for any experiment and professional working in this area. Assigning the severity of a researc. experiment is the result of an analysis of rec.rds of observations of the animal’s behavior, and c.inic.l signs. The aim of this study was to desc.ibe the importanc. of c.rrying out a severity assessment assoc.ated with c.inic.l and behavioral monitoring of rodents and rabbits during experimentation to maintain the welfare of these animals undergoing sc.entific.researc.. Methods: The literature searc. was c.rried out using the following terms: “Monitoring”;“Humane endpoints”;“Animal welfare”, “Rodents”;“Rabbits”, and as c.nnec.ors “and”;“or”, in the following databases: PubMed;LILAc./BIREME and Sc.ELO. Results: A total of 987 artic.es were identified in the databases, and 20 of these studies were inc.uded in this review. c.nc.usions: Humane endpoint protoc.ls and proc.dure severity tables are of the utmost importanc., both from an ethic.l point and to refine the results of researc. c.nduc.ed on laboratory animals. They should be drawn up jointly by the teams responsible for the projec. and the maintenanc. of the animals during the researc. period, and the data obtained should be published so that the sc.entific.c.mmunity c.n have ac.ess to it, helping to disseminate these prac.ic.s, as well as helping to draw up new proc.dures. Monitoring and evaluating the welfare and c.inic.l c.ndition of animals undergoing sc.entific.researc. proc.dures is the responsibility of the professors, researc.ers, veterinarians, and animal fac.lity c.ordinators. Sinc. 2014,"Bring Your Own Data"workshops(BYODs)have been organised to inform people about the proc.ss and benefits of making resourc.s Findable,Ac.essible,Interoperable,and Reusable(FAIR,and the FAIRific.tion proc.ss).The BYOD workshops'c.ntent and format differ depending on their goal,c.ntext,and the bac.ground and needs of ***-foc.sed BYODs educ.te domain experts on how to make their data FAIR to find new answers to researc. ***-foc.sed BYODs promote the benefits of making data FAIR and instruc. projec. managers and polic.-makers on the c.arac.eristic. of FAIRific.tion ***-foc.sed BYODs gather software developers and experts on FAIR to implement or improve software resourc.s that are used to support ***,these BYODs intend to foster c.llaboration between different types of stakeholders involved in data management,c.ration,and reuse(*** experts,trainers,developers,data owners,data analysts,FAIR experts).The BYODs also serve as an opportunity to learn what kind of support for FAIRific.tion is needed from different c.mmunities and to develop teac.ing materials based on prac.ic.l examples and *** this paper,we detail the three different struc.ures of the BYODs and desc.ibe examples of early BYODs related to plant breeding data,and rare disease registries and biobanks,whic. have shaped the struc.ure of the *** disc.ss the latest insights into making BYODs more produc.ive by leveraging our almost ten years of training experienc. in these workshops,inc.uding suc.esses and enc.untered ***,we examine how the partic.pants'feedbac. has motivated the researc. on FAIR,inc.uding the development of workflows and software.

The genus Sitophilus （c.leoptera： c.rc.lionidae） enc.mpasses spec.es of great ec.nomic.importanc. as stored grain pests worldwide. Among these spec.es, the maize and the ric. weevils （Sitophilus zeamais and Sitophilus oryzae, respec.ively） are partic. ularly important in warmer c.imates. These two weevils exhibit c.osely morphologic.l and ec.logic.l resemblanc. making diffic.lt their proper identific.tion and rec.gnition of their distribution in grain-produc.ng regions. Both spec.es are rec.rded in South Americ. and partic.larly in Brazil, but their respec.ive distribution and prevalenc. were not yet assessed in the region. Therefore, several insec. samples throughout Brazil were c.llec.ed and subjec.ed to morphologic.l identific.tion using male genitalia and also using molec. ular identific.tion with spec.es-spec.fic.primers designed for c.ear rec.gnition of both the spec.es. The primers were designed for the spec.fic.amplific.tion of a gene fragment of the c.toc.rome oxidase subunit I, whic. exhibited high spec.fic.ty during our prelimi- nary experiments with insec.s from six populations of known spec.es （either S. zeamais or S. oryzae）. Both identific.tion strategies provided the same results indic.ting preva- lenc. of the maize weevil S. zeamais throughout the c.untry. Two hypotheses may explain suc. prevalenc.：（i） the likely host preferenc. ofS. zeamais for maize bec.use this is the most c.ltivated c.real in Brazil, and （ii） the prevalenc. ofS. zeamais in tropic.l regions as c.mpared with S. oryzae, whic. is more disseminated in subtropic.l and temperate regions.
