The lack of selective extraction specific for lysine-acetylated proteins has been a major problem in the field of acetylation biology,though acetylation plays a key role in many biological *** this paper,we report for the first time the proteomic screening of lysine-acetylated proteins from a mouse liver tissue,by a new approach of immunoaffinity purification of lysine-acetylated peptides combined with nano-HPLC/MS/MS *** have found 20 lysine-acetylated proteins with 21 lysine-acetylated sites,among which 12 lysine-acetylated proteins and 16 lysine-acetylated sites have never been reported ***,three acetyltransferases harboring in mitochondrion are newly discovered acetyltransferases responsible for the acetylation of nonhistone *** have explored the significant patterns of residue preference by the hierarchical clustering analysis of amino acid residues surrounding acetylation sites,which could be helpful to the prediction of new sites of lysine *** findings provide more candidates for studying the important roles played by acetylation in diverse cellular pathways and related human diseases.

Carbon nanotubes(CNTs)hold great promise in many fields because of their unique structures and ***,the preparation of CNTs generally involves cumbersome equipment and time-consuming ***,we report an ultra-fast carbothermal shock(CTS)approach for synthesizing CNTs with a simple homemade setup by employing Joule heating of a carbon *** silk fabric(CSF)loaded with transition metal salts in ethanol solution was used as the substrate,which was treated with a pulse voltage of 40 V for only 50 ms and then covered with uniform CNTs grown with bimetallic alloy catalyst nanoparticles(diameter:~9 nm).The temperature ramp rate is as high as 105 K/*** as-obtained sample has a unique fluffy structure similar to the trichobothrium of spiders,endowing it versatile applications such as airflow sensors or air *** CTS technique presents an easy-accessible and highly efficient approach for synthesizing CNTs,which may be also applied in synthesizing other nanomaterials.

Secreted proteins are important sources for early detection and diagnosis of disease, and as such have received considerable attention. The extraction of low concentration proteins from large volumes of culture media, which are rich in salts and other compounds that interfere with most proteomics techniques, presents a problem for secretome studies. Ultrafiltration, precipitation, and dialysis are three major extraction methods that can be used to overcome this problem. The present study for the first time, compared the merits and shortcomings of these three methods, without bias. Centrifugal ultrafiltration provided the best extraction efficiency, and precipitation provided the highest number of identifiable proteins. The three methods yielded closely related, but different, information on the secretome; thus, they should be considered complementary or, at least, supplementary methods. Three hundred and sixty unique proteins were identified, including 211 potential secreted proteins. Compared with previous studies, this study also identified 42 new secreted proteins. The present study not only offers a reference for the selection of secretome extraction methods, but also expands the secretome database for the investigation of hepatocellular carcinoma.

In this work,low-softening-temperature and low-modulus SiO_(2) was introduced as an embedded interface between SiC nanowires(SiCnws)and a Ba_(x)Sr_(1−x)Al_(2)Si_(2)O_(8) ceramic matrix to enhance strength and toughness of the *** the sintering process,molten SiO_(2) enhances the flowability of the ceramic powders and modifies the dispersion of *** strengthening effect of SiCnws was fully realized,and the flexural strength of the optimized ceramics reached 193±16 MPa,which represents an increase of 52.6%.After the formation of the embedded SiO_(2) interface with a low modulus,cracks can deflect along the SiCnws surface,which is consistent with the criterion of He and *** can effectively extend the crack propagation path,and the fracture toughness(K_(IC))is thus improved by 94.0%,reaching 3.1±0.5 MPa·m^(1/2).

Silkworm silk fbers have been woven into textiles for thousands of years,because of their attractive luster,good mechanical properties,excellent biocompatibility,and large-scale *** the development of human society,preparation of silk fbers with modifed or enhanced properties are highly desirable for potential applications in structural materials and smart ***,we realized the reinforcement of multiple properties of silk fbers by feeding silkworms with Ag nanowire(Ag NW)modifed *** obtained silk fbers show obviously enhanced comprehensive mechanical properties,including improved tensile strength,elongation at break,tensile modulus,and toughness,which are increased by 37.2%,37.6%,68.3%,and 69.8%,***,compared with unmodifed silk,the electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity of modifed silk fbers are improved by 246.4%and 32.1%,*** analysis on the components and structure shows that the incorporated Ag NWs lead to increased content of random coil/α-helix,improved orientation of crystallites,and increased content of Ag compared to pristine silk fbers,which may contribute to the enhanced mechanical,electrical,and thermal properties.

Establishing HI mass vs. stellar mass and halo mass scaling relations using an abundance matching method

We combined data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey(SDSS) and the Arecibo Legacy Fast ALFA Survey(ALFALFA) to establish the HI mass vs. stellar mass and halo mass scaling relations using an abundance matching method that is free of the Malmquist bias. To enable abundance matching, a cross-match between the SDSS DR7 galaxy group sample and the ALFALFA HI sources provides a catalog of 16520 HI-galaxy pairs within 14270 galaxy groups(halos). By applying the observational completeness reductions for both optical and HI observations, we used the remaining 8180 ALFALFA matched sources to construct the model constraints. Taking into account the dependence of HI mass on both the galaxy and group properties, we establish two sets of scaling relations: one with a combination of stellar mass,(g-r) color and halo mass, and the other with stellar mass,specific star-formation rate(sSFR), and halo mass. We demonstrate that our models can reproduce the HI mass component as both stellar mass and halo mass. Additional tests showed that the conditional HI mass distributions as a function of the cosmic web type and the satellite fractions were well recovered.

Bruising reduces the edibility and marketability of fresh apples, inevitably causing economic losses for the apple industry. However, bruises lack obvious visual symptoms, which makes it challenging to detect them using imaging techniques with uniform or diffuse illumination. This study employed the structured light imaging (SLI) technique to detect apple bruises. First, the grayscale reflection images were captured under phase-shifted sinusoidal illumination at three different wavelengths (600, 650, and 700 nm) and six different spatial frequencies (0.05, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20, 0.25, and 0.30 cycles mm-1). Next, the grayscale reflectance images were demodulated to produce direct component (DC) images representing uniform diffuse illumination and amplitude component (AC) images revealing bruises. Then, by quantifying the contrast between bruised regions and sound regions in all AC images, it was found that bruises exhibited the optimal contrast when subjected to sinusoidal illumination at a wavelength of 700 nm and a spatial frequency of 0.25 mm-1. In the AC image with optimal contrast, the developed h-domes segmentation algorithm to accurately segment the location and range of the bruised regions. Moreover, the algorithm successfully accomplished the task of segmenting central bruised regions while addressing the challenge of segmenting edge bruised regions complicated by vignetting. The average Intersection over Union (IoU) values for the three types of bruises were 0.9422, 0.9231, and 0.9183, respectively. This result demonstrated that the combination of SLI and the h-domes segmentation algorithm was a viable approach for the effective detection of fresh apple bruises. (c) 2023 The Authors.
